whole house surge protection ? I'm not sure i follow

It's s device that sits between the house and street mains and limits the maximum voltage that can enter the house.

http://m.homedepot.com/b/Electrical-Power-Distribution-Whole-House-Surge-Protectors/N-5yc1vZbm05

Maybe you call it a different name in Nigeria.

IMHO, this is a requirement in homes in Nigeria from seeing fires and equipment destruction caused by over voltage.

Yeah not fool proof just like anti lock brakes, seat belts and air bags but I won't drive without them.

I bought like 15 PCs of this generic LED lamps.. why do u say they are fake?? Lighting wires aren't suppose to be too thick..

Re: WATCH THIS SPACE (Electrical Showcase & Review) by allCopacetic: 12:09pm On Feb 23, 2016
Well sir they arent supposed to be that thin either, trust me. if you've ever seen an LED light from Europe or say a high quality dubai stock, you'll see what obtains.
plus its not just about the thin cables, that's just a characteristic i highlighted.
thirdly my post is about identifying high quality products for those who are looking for that. that's why i didnt say Fake vs Original ...i said "Generic vs "Good quality branded"
generics are more or less mass productions. not made for or by any particular brand (that has a name to build/protect and hence a standard to maintain).

Bottom line, in the long run the difference in quality will start to manifest, in the way they hold up against power surges or voltage spikes and there's also going to be a slight difference in brightness.
How long have u had the lights for tho?
for clearer insight just ask your supplier for a sample of maybe SMART for instance and compare it with the generic you have, you wont need to be a professional to see the difference. they might tell u they're all the same and the branded kind are just selling a name, but trust me, there's a good reason they cost about 50% more and aren't too common.

the 18 block distribution boards, what kind of distribution boards are recommended for houses. Also do starblocks come along with distribution boards
Re: WATCH THIS SPACE (Electrical Showcase & Review) by allCopacetic: 9:14pm On Feb 26, 2016
yes they do, the stablok fuses or MCBs as the case may be are usually sold with the boards, unless you request otherwise ,
the size of board to be used depends on the size of the apartment and the envisioned electrical load.

Here's a review on dignity piping products as promised earlier.

Before I proceed I would like to state a few things clearly:

this review is not intended to condemn or castigate the use of replica dignity products. It serves simply as a guide for people who are unaware of the existence of; or are looking for but cannot identify, the very First/Highest Grade of dignity plastic products that are originally imported by the Registered dealer.

It is of importance to note that All dignity products are imported from china, original and replicas alike. The difference is in the quality (material and dimensions adherence) they are manufactured to.

Original dignity piping products are currently very expensive hence sold and used by only very few sellers and contractors. For most wall and ceiling piping works, a good quality replica should do the trick, but for serious decking and high profile projects, quality control engineers that are able to tell them apart would probably insist on the originals.

Common Problems associated with replicas:

THREAD HOLES (for knockout boxes and lighting boxes)-
the thread holes are usually metal nuts; and when they are made from cheap metals with low specific heat capacity it means they'll heat up easily (in the case of metal based ceiling fittings with incandescent bulbs) causing the plastic around it to soften and give way and the fittings installed to fall off.
-thread holes in some replicas are also made with materials that rust over time and make it difficult for screws to go in properly
-in some replicas the plastic around the thread hole does not hold the nut firmly in place which makes it easy for the nut to pull out or fall in.
-some replica products also have thread holes that are either too small or too big for the standard 2ba or 4ba screws making it impossible to mount fittings securely.

REAR THREAD HOLE COVERS
-the small thread hole covers on some replicas can come off easily, causing cement to get into the thread hole and block it.

PLASTIC COMPOSITION AND DENSITY
the quality of plastic is ultimately one of the biggest differences and can pose a number of challenges.
in pipes, this affects bending and deformation. some replica pipes can bend, but after bending; the area around the bend/elbow is stretched so thin it can tear, get punctured or fold easily. original dignity pipes will remain reasonably thick at the elbow after the bend.
in knockout boxes and lighting boxes, breaking is a problem. they are sometimes made of brittle plastic which can break when you're trying to nail it to a surface

INACCURATE DIMENSIONS
manufacturers sometimes skim on materials and on size to cut cost
diameter of pipes- sometimes too small for a bending spring to go in or too small for a coupler to hold firmly.
some couplers and male bushes are sometimes too small for a standard pipe to go in too.
there is also a reduction in the thickness of pipes, lighting boxes and depth of adaptable boxes (as shown in pic)

because just about anybody can go to china and import plastic conduit products and brand them as dignity, you have to be mindful of the stock you buy and keep in mind the avoidance of the above problems. there are bad, good and better replicas

IDENTIFYING ORIGINAL

LOGO- You'll never find any original dignity product with a four-cornered mould print/mark around the logo as shown in the pictures. But its always present in replicas, even the highest quality replica must have the semblance of a mould print bordering the logo. I'll explain why later.

PACKAGING- The packaging and printing on original dignity products are as shown in the picutures below. Of note are: font type, font size, taping, absence of any label (original or first grade dignity products do not carry any label/stickers)

In the Pictures Following A= Original , B= one of the replica qualities
