At 2:20 in the clip, the stup1d commander says this,
"when a submarine is down there, no one can detect
that, with ships sailing on the sea".

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y8_fMKy-HrE

But that is true. Civilian ships cannot notice anything unless special equipments are used by military to search for it. A dullard in this case is you.

You are becoming more and more stupidd each day. When a submarine is down there no one can detect that with ships sailing on the sea. That is correct. Unless you are a witchdoctor you can see submarines down there. The man is not speaking about anti-submarine warfare equipments or else he could have told that submarine could be detected by using ASW equipments but also submarines have own self defence mechanism not to give away its position by using passive sonar.

So is 50/50, you can search for submarine and still not find it and you can search and luckily find it. Submarines are stealth and do not give their positions easily. You can search for days with nothing to find.

You South-Africans are hopeless and completely shameless.

Your missile was marketed at having a 10km range, but the damn thing can't hit a pre-known, pre-defined, static target at 8km with a laser guide. Making fraudulent claims to sell a product.

Your zombie naval commander doesn't know what Submarines are used for.

A stupidd man is the one that thinks missiles cannot miss a target. Human have their own weaknesses even though the missile were created to be perfect by following the laser. Remember, how long can you hold on the laser beam tightly locked to the target the size of a pin? Surely you wouldn't do it longer.

American Apache, Hind and every gunship out there have been missing targets like hell. So what do you say? Mokopa is not a problem and will always go to where is directed by the laser and it is evident that somehow the person that was aiming the target with a laser slightly missed. Mokopa yes, can shoot up to 10Km. Whether it misses the target or not, the problem will be squarely blamed on the one who positioned the laser in to the target. If the rifle bullet range is 500m, it does not mean at 500m it will surely hit the target. It means at that distance it can hit the target depending on the accuracy of the shooter.

Nigeria surely but slowly becomes a home capital of the greatest foolish people. No wonder you are importing toothpicks and toothbrushes.

Meaning keeping away all kinds of threats. That's what the metaphor was meant for. Come to your senses just for once and understand that military men have to be strategic when it comes to briefing civilians about military asserts. Did you expect the man to be explicit and tell the media that submarines are used for espionage and for executing clandestine operations? Nope, that is a no-no.

This is the exact reason why they can't raise more than 9 pilots for their Gripen fleet. Brain-dead Zulus everywhere you look.

The simple answer is because Nigeria is the only country in Sub-Saharan Africa with both airborne and seaborne anti-submarine warfare capabilities, even South Africa has never got any ASW capability in its history.

I guess the Indians know better that Southern Africa is safe and the only troubled region is west Africa where pirates walk in the park for as long they like. They had no choice but to ask Nigeria to stop their people from feasting on Indian nationals. As it comes to us they know their citizens are safe.

Angola in your regional backyard had s ship hijacked in your SADC region, no navy including yours was able to stop the pirates till they reached Ghana. It was Nigerian navy that eventually stopped and bursted the pirates that came from Angola.

There is piracy in the Indian ocean between India and Mozambique channel. South African navy is not able to project force up the Indian ocean. LOL...last year was the year SAN was boasted of as being ready to start patrolling from SADC region up to ECOWAS region...LOL....we don't see any canoe from South African navy, talk less of warship.

NIGERIA IS SUFFERING CASH CRUNCH AND CANNOT AFFORD TO PAY ITS TEACHERS AND PRESIDENT BUHARI ON HIS WAY TO CHINA TO ASK FOR BAIL OUT

When Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari came to power in May vowing to mend the economy, fight terrorism and end corruption, Kola Karim was upbeat. Oil prices had sunk, but Buhari’s arrival made him believe his company still had a chance to prosper in Africa’s biggest crude producer.

Shoreline Group, the third-biggest Nigerian oil and gas producer, decided to forge ahead with a $500 million Eurobond to expand drilling operations. Then prices fell below $50 per barrel last year. The bond sale was suspended.

One hope was to rely on income from Shoreline’s construction and power-generation businesses. Except that the central bank’s refusal to devalue the currency meant Nigeria was starved of foreign exchange, crimping business operations. Now, with prices hovering around $30 a barrel, Shoreline plans to cut 35 percent of its nearly 2,000 staff.

Buhari to cut Nigeria’s foreign missions

President Muhammadu Buhari said Tuesday in Abuja that his administration would undertake a review of Nigerian foreign missions to determine those that are really essential.

Speaking after being briefed by the permanent secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Bulus Lolo, President Buhari said a presidential committee would soon be established to carry out the review.

The president said the review would determine the number of essential missions Nigeria needs to maintain abroad so that appropriate standards and quality can be maintained.

Nigeria currently has 119 foreign missions abroad, the permanent secretary said.

The country will spend N34billion to run the missions in 2015.

The president said there was no point in Nigeria operating missions all over the world “with dilapidated facilities and demoralized staff”, when the need for some of the missions was questionable.

The Nigerian government is planning to cut its defence budget after a decade of increases, but security continues to receive the most funding as the Boko Haram insurgency continues and the armed forces continue to expand.

Nigeria’s defence budget will drop from N364.2 billion ($2.3 billion) last year to N340.3 billion ($2.1 billion) in 2014 according to the Nigerian Budget Office – a 6.5% reduction in funding. Furthermore, the proposed budget drops defence from 12.1% of overall government spending to 7.8% between 2013 and 2014, according to IHS Jane’s Defence Weekly.

Under the proposed 2014 budget, the Nigerian Army will receive N132.7 billion ($830 million), the Navy N70.1 billion ($440 million) and the Air Force N73.2 billion ($460 million). Another N64.3 billion ($400 million) will be allocated across the board, including for missions and deployments.

The Nigerian Navy has been allocated N5.2 billion ($32 million) for the two new offshore patrol vessels being procured from China while the Nigerian Army was allocated N100 million ($600 000) for the ongoing production of armoured personnel carriers by the Nigerian Army Electrical and Mechanical Engineers (this almost certainly refers to the locally produced Igirigi). The Nigerian Air Force has been allocated N1.8 billion ($11.2 million) for the acquisition of six Mi-35M attack helicopters. In addition, N1.3 million ($8 000) has been allocated for the reactivation of L-39ZA jet trainers, many of which are grounded.

The Defence Industries Corporation of Nigeria (DICON) has been allocated N1.9 billion ($11.9 million) for 2014, including N450 million ($2.8 million) for the installation, procurement and operation of a new 7.62x39 mm ammunition production line as Nigeria seeks to grow its domestic defence industry.

In total, N845 billion ($5.29 billion) was provided for recurrent and service-wide votes for the security sector, including the armed forces (N306 billion/$1.92 billion), police (N286 billion/$1.79 billion), National Security Advisor’s office (N67 billion/$420 million) and paramilitary services. In total, the security cluster received the lion’s share of the national budget, followed by education.

Once approved, the 2014 defence budget will mark the first decrease in defence spending since around 2006, as between 2007 and 2013 Nigerian defence expenditure grew by 20.6%, according to IHS Jane’s, which points out the new budget will result in a 12.7% reduction of spending in real terms.

SAAF should consider selling Gripens and buying transports

Written by Guy Martin, Wednesday, 29 October 2014

The South African Air Force (SAAF) has 26 Gripens in its inventory but 12 are in “rotational” storage and only 18 Gripen navigators and pilots have been trained to operational status. Which begs the question: what should we do with aircraft we don’t need and can’t afford to operate?

The solution could be a simple one: sell off the 12 Gripens in storage (since we won’t miss them anyway) and use the money for fuel, pilot training and new equipment that the Air Force desperately needs - its C-130 Hercules fleet is ageing and the Air Force is increasingly forced to rely on charters to move people and equipment to places like the Democratic Republic of Congo, while the SAAF’s maritime surveillance C-47TPs are more than half a century old and suffering from attrition.
