Good morning all,
In view of the current forex scarcity, exorbitant price of foreign currencies on the streets and the suspension of PTA by banks, is it fine to travel to the UK with no cash and rely on withdrawing cash from the ATM at the airport? In 2010 I had the ECO at the airport ask how much cash I was carrying and demanding to see the cash. However, the bank rate via gtbank naira mastercard on friday (19/02/16) was 320 naira = $1 while it was 393 naira = $1 which makes it more economical to opt for the bank rate.
However am also aware of the need to show the availability of funds for the duration one's stay in the UK thus will like to seek advise from recent travellers to the UK/US/EU on nairaland.

nairacountry:

1. Somebody should please throw some light on the above especially the bolden part?
2. Can't one show MasterCard as BTA? Must it be cash?
3. Also, is it wise to go with other currency like Rand as against naira knowing fully that d exchange rate of rand to pound will b stable couple with d fact that u can easily buy rand from Travelex (MMA) at official price

Cross a single line neatly through it and write the correct info above it then write a brief explanation about the mistake on a sticky note and attach it to your application. (Note..don't write on top of if but above it)

Hold £200-300 cash for immediate use and use your card to withdraw when you get to the UK.

I don't think going with Rand will make any sense since you can't use it in the U.k, you still have to look for a place to exchange it for £

Krugerrand are acceptable anywhere!

Even South Africans would go to the UK with Pounds Sterling... It doesn't make any sense travelling to England with another country's currency, better still arrange for 150 pounds and ur GT mastercard. I'd rather Ease myself stress of racking my brain to answer questions at the POE or looking for where to Change Rands

Incorrect. ZAR is easily changeable at pretty much any bureau de change in the UK including all of the ones at the airport.

Depending on how long you plan to stay in the UK a stubborn ECO May find the £150 or £200-£300 too small for the traveller's period of stay

You or your friend should not bother reapplying at this time because the ECO's decision won't change.

Work on your finances. The ECO is magnanimous and doesn't want you to go bankrupt.

thanks but my question is who goes on vacation with his monthly salary .. every one uses money saved for that ..

and more over he makes 3324+2880 = 6204ghs = 1088gbp and spends just 200gbp on living expenses which leaves him with a revenue of like 888 every month for savings ... 888x2 gives you 1776gbp that is just two months salary .....

* should we reduce the budget instead ??

thanks

Reduce your budget. Even if you plan to spend £10,000 on the trip for the purpose of meeting the tourist visa requirment reduce your budget because the ECO will consider your monthly income as your main source and will want to make comparison.

To my understanding, you proposed to spend £1,800 in the UK on holidays from a closing balance which was not stated. This makes no economic sense to the ECO especially at this critical time. Your stated budget was unrealistic and does not commensurate with your personal and financial circumstances in your home country which you failed to substantiate to the ECO.

It does not matter if your have a closing balance of £1M; if the ECO is not satisfied with the source of funds, I'm afraid the decision won't change even if you reapply.

If you must reapply, address the reasons stated for your previous refusal. It is either you work on a more realistic and prudent budget or be ready to defend the £1,800 you are spending in the UK for 13days.

But let me quickly tell you that securing a UK visa is no rocket science, but if there are discrepancies in your work documents, statement of account e.g unexplained deposit, I'm afraid you'll keep dashing your hard earned money to the UK Government.

Good luck.

The Guru's in the house, I need your guides on my application. I am planning to renew my UK visa (2 years). I have almost N1.7m with my cooperative. I do not have any savings in my account as my money goes into my building project immediately it comes in. I travelled to UK twice last year with my 6months visa. 1st trip, I spent just 7 days and 1month on my second trip. I work in a reputable organization with a salary of 150k, I have spent almost 8 years with the organization. I have N1m in my PFA account as well. I am married with kids. Please, how do I package my account for this application. I humbly await your guide, please.

The amount you have with your cooperative wont be taken into consideration because it is not readily available to you. Try and accumulate some money in your salary account and present the salary account statement along with your pay slip.

Where will the money for trip be coming from? The cooperative account or PFA?
