the last time I refused to update on my android I ended up downloading a new one from play store so I guess their updates are kind of compulsory

Sir, I even used that morning cos my biz depends on the app. Was even in the middle of a very important conversation and also needed to go and have a shower tho get ready for the days work when the notification came in. So I thought it would be good to just set it to update while I hit the showers. When it was fine I restarted my phone only to find out that whatsapp pushed an empty update to my phone. I quickly remembered the new development and switched my whatsapp to my dormant Microsoft Lumia phone.

Well for me, blackberry is way too strict with security. Guess they could reach agreement.

Alternatively, have you noticed same issue with other BB users?

A few days ago, Whatsapp announced that the'll be restricting support to all blackberry, Nokia S40, S60 and older android smartphones. This implies that this phones can't use whatsapp any longer.

Just this morning i got a push notification to update my whatsapp to the latest version and BOOM, There goes my whatsapp from my blackberry phone.

Anyway, that's the only way they can stop us from using whatsapp on this devices. So if you still wish to use your whatsappp on you Nokia, Blackberry, Just ignore the push notification to update your whatsapp that way you can still use the app.

Delete the updated version and download older version. Viola you are ready to go

Everybody with Blackberry, Nokia and those rickety androids should change phones ASAP. Whatsapp will no longer support these obsolete, outdated phones. Only modern sophisticated phones are 'eligible' for mighty Whatsapp. Thank you

Stop misleading people. Your phone model was wrongly identified by whatsapp ota updater
thereby sending u a wrong .cod file. On all archaic blackberry phones,The whatsapp icon disappears
whenever a wrong .cod meant for another model is installed.

download and reboot your whatsapp should work.

So simple, find the old version of the whatsapp you're using before online and download. Delete the update version and install the downloaded one back.

Thanks for the heads up. From my experience, there is a limit to which you can ignore the notification to update. I tried this trick with my Sony Xperia U and refused to update. Long story short, after a month I was barred from using that version. I had to reinstall.
