May God almighty continue to protect us. On emergency; I like the points it would be very handy if at all one would remember any line above. its only God that can take charge once tire bursts while driving in high speed. All confidence and training becomes useless during most emergency. May God keep taking charge in our going and coming.

Sometimes reading through postings on NL, one cannot help but be perturbed at how ignorant and gullible folks can be.

Speed kills. If an SUV doing 140km/hr has a blown tire (especially the front one), the driver will most likely meet his creator that day.

No it's not a flawed advice. You can shift into "Neutral" without applying the brake. Try it out one of these days. You could even shift to other drives; D2, L etc. without brake provided the car is moving already.

Nice one... Can't even remember the last time i did 100 km/h..... The way some people speed is so crazy especially the SUV people.. I did max of 80 km/h from Ajah to Delta in December and still got to my villa before 2pm with all the Ore traffic

it's due to the rare stability of the Audi, also it height not as high as an SUV, the SUV height is its major weakness during a blowout

I believe one thing in life... Always pray for grace and mercy... it isn't easy with all these experiments... I have a car and I can tell u boldly that I have experience about all these. last time from Lagos to Akungba, my tyre got bursted in Akure... but thank God am safe till now.

I don't normally comment but your post scared me. You are supposed to lose your tire to a blowout once or twice in your lifetime, You must be doing something wrong. I don't want to judge you but you have to be careful and find out what is wrong. And by the way what is your definition of top speed.

Very naive of me then. Never tried it before. I have been driving only one car since 2009 and strangely enough, I never had cause to try that.
So what happens when a rookie mistakenly engages reverse while speeding.

NEVER SHIFT INTO NEUTRAL.

That is terrible advice. So long as your engine is engaged to your transmission, the friction of transmission (engine braking) will allow your car to slow down sooner. Shifting into neutral will allow your car to retain a faster speed for a longer time.

Tire blow out?

GRAB STEERING WHEEL, FIRM. KEEP IT STRAIGHT, NEVER TURN.
The car will start slowing down, shift into the next lower gear to engage engine braking more and slow down faster.

When you are at about 50km/hr you can then gradual apply brakes and if you feel the car about to spin out, take off your foot and repeat.

By having one tire blowout, the car loses center of gravity, turning the steering wheel or braking while fast causes it to go into a spin which turns into a rollover. More so for an SUV with a higher center of gravity.

I speak from experience, I've had a tire blowout while going at about 112km/hr.

You get an awful sound. The kind of sound you get if your clutch is bad when trying to engage a gear in manual transmission vehicle .

I would think that abrupt change in transmission from forward to reverse will mess up the gears or something.

Depends on the speed. The car will jack; like when you apply your brake suddenly. But if such occurrence keeps on over time, it will lead to gear damage.
