Hi All,
I intend completing the "VISA application for Research Fellows". I got an offer for a 3-month stay in a German Research facility to conduct some research. I have the following questions to ask as regards this visa category:
1. I would be spending 3 months in Germany (approximately 90-95 days). What visa category should I apply for, Long or Short stay?
2. I stay far away from Lagos, normally how many trips would one make to the embassy before a visa is granted?
3. Those that have visited the embassy for recent interviews, what is the actually processing fee (in naira) that was paid?
4. What is the biometric specifications of the passports required?
5. The embassy requires the primary and secondary school certificates. I only have the secondary cert, would that suffice?
6. I don't think I can lay me hands on any biologically old documents of mine. Is this document compulsory?
7. Can someone please shed more light on the "prepaid courier envelope by any major courier service"? I can't really understand this. What is it for? How do I do this?

I hope to hear from you soon. Thanks for the great job going on here!

The chances of getting an interview date and processing your application in time for resumption are quite slim at this point, why not defer the admission and give a detailed post on what happened during the interview and the reasons given for the rejection so that peeps can advise accordingly and you can increase the odds of a successful winter application.

Williamso how fr, longest time.. Yeah it is relative, but in most programs here na cramming win am oh.. It's an F'd up system if you ask me cos in the end how does cramming make me a better Engineer even if I should end up graduating with a 1.0 gotten largely through cramming? How do I stand defend the result in front of seasoned professionals Again as I been talk, I don already dey here, so make we dey cram dey go.

No flexin für here oh.. It's same old boring routine. Plus I still get exams. I hope the summer comes with it interesting activities.. Make man m no go suffer depression.
Well, for my program, cramming just won't cut it. For example, I had to learn a programming language from scratch (no regrets at all, actually fun now) for my studies. Cramming won't help you write software, or develop an IT Strategy, or draw business processes, etc... If you cram in my program, you will most likely fail and end up unemployed after school...

I think first of all you need to peruse the website of your school of interest. There you'll see the requirements and know if you need TOEFL or not.
As to the motivation I've got a few copy but for effectiveness I think you shld do a some search from your end. This is PHD we are talking about and it's highly competitive. You can get some from Google, just click image search rather than web search. But be wary of plagiarism

You are yet to give any detail concerning your case, did you fund before the interview? If u didn't, did you get any mail from the embassy to fund thereafter? Have you done that or did you apply with the letter of sponsorship? Have you mailed the embassy?what alien office? etc etc. Please provide details so we can get a clearer picture. All the best.

Your head dey there. Come collect Jaegermeister!!!

However, I will disagree on some (relatively trivial) parts. Learning German is not necessarily just to get jobs, but also for integration purposes. And that you will speak good German before your programme ends? If your programme is not in Deutsch, you will even be lucky if you can read good German before your program ends, let alone speak! (I'm not saying it's impossible, but......)

Nevertheless, please face your studies if/when you get here. If your head carry multi tasking, fine, if you can even face school, language and hustle (1 or 2 definitely will suffer; pray it's not your studies), then go for it! But don't forget that good grades are very very important...

Stop spamming the thread now. Someone has answered your question yet you are not satisfied with it. Do you think you can just request for another interview date and day like that? If you can't wait like it has pointed out, write a letter of appeal to the embassy; you will get response from them thereafter. But make sure you confirm from your school first if they can extend your enrollment deadline. If they can't, then wait till winter. Finally, I'm in support of the submission of that brother that first answered your question.

As per your PhD, first thing first:

1. Decide on your research area of interest
2. Search for schools that offer such
3. Visit their websites and check their requirements. It varies. 99% of PhD programmes are done in English, so TOEFL may not be necessary.
4. Most importantly, you need a supervisor that will agree to supervise you. Check on the professors/lecturers handling your research area in each school. Get their details and begin to fire them with your proposal, CV (make it detailed) and a cover letter (motivation letter).

Then wait for response. It may tarry, you have to be very patient.

Packaging is of utmost importance.

Once you get a supervisor, you are half way done.

All the best.

Answer 1:

If you are staying more than 90 days, apply for Long stay. The last time i went for 92 days, I applied for Long stay. Though i was challenged during the interview that i should have applied for short stay, I stood my ground and insisted i will be staying longer than 90 days (My supervisor also advised I go for long stay visa and he sent a supporting letter too). Though you will be granted 90 days visa here in Lagos, you will have to extend for the remaining days when you arrive in Germany. That's all depending on what's written in your letter of invitation. Your letter must be specific on your date of arrival and departure.

Answer 5:

I have no primary school certificate too. I had to visit my primary school and my headmaster gave me a copy of the School's Pry 6 register in which my name appeared. Stamped and signed. Then got an affidavit to back it up. It worked for me. You can do same.

Answer 6:
Biographically old doc is very important. Its used to ascertain your true age vis-a-vis your academic qualifications. So search your house very well for any old document that bears your date of birth. I used my old baptismal card. I know of someone who used her Waec GCE photocard. Look for something.

All the best.

exaclty my brother,,crammers and fast writers get excellent grade..they exam gives ur final score here...unlike canada system that exam is just few percentage to ur total score

You all are funny. I don't know who to quote first. Lol. Well, failing and getting 2.0 are different things entirely. I am here like you guys and you most be very happy when a result is released and you are among the people who failed,... I have not said you are failing. 2.0 here is way different from that in Nigeria. I do not see where I have mention in my post that I am the best in my class. Or that I am getting 2.0 lol. Are you serious? Well, the idea is to encourage guys coming in and to let them know the importance of attending classes. I believe majority of people here came to germany with a second class degree (mostly lower) ... I have not said everyone...which is less than a German 2.0, so why are we talking about 2.0. Well like my primary II teacher will say, "a word is enough for the wise"

I most add this, I cram allot, and I will keep on cramming if that's the way out. Lol, what is wrong with cramming?lol. Guys make una wise . If no be saw them no dey carry expo for here, we know Wetin guys for dey do oooh.

Answer 2: If you submit all your documents correctly on the day of interview, you may not go there more than twice; for the interview and for visa collection.

Answer 3: Visa fee is Naira equivalent of 60 Euros (around 14k)

Answer 4: you may check the German embassy website for the passport spec or at best take your passport at the embassy ( though quite expensive)

Answer 7: The prepaid courier envelope will be used to return your documents after the visa process is done. I am aware you can get it at the embassy. Not sure about the cost.

Cheers.

Uni assist shouldn't be much of an issue. Just send the required docs and pay the fees. as per language proficiency I think it's better you write the exam, try and register for IELTS. However if you can't or don't want to write the exam send an email to the academic manager(course adviser) and ask him if a letter from your university/ministry of education is acceptable in lieu of the language test. I know someone who used a letter and was admitted into this same programme.

Reaching out to all Hamburgers in the house, esp TUHH bros.
Northern institute of Technology Management (NITHH) sent me a mail saying i should consider applying for the double degree programme (MBA along with the MSC chem eng i have already been admitted for). I am very interested, but i would like to know how this would affect my plans, so I am hoping there is someone here that is on the double degree program or knows something about it to advise me. I understand i will be taking the MBA part time during evenings and weekends. I was planning to use that time to hustle and make money, so i just want to be sure that I am doing the right thing if i free money making for the potential benefit of getting an MBA along with my MSC (assuming there are any benefits) pls bros, break this down for me and let me know if this dual degree is worth considering in the long run. Afterall, na to get good job and stay long term be the aim, not to make money to take back to naija. thanks, all...

See this for the passport spec. Hope it helps.
https://www.epassportphoto.com/blog/2008/07/german-passport-photo-requirements/

The embassy will definitely retained all your documents; original and copies.
To be returned after the visa process is completed using the prepaid envelope. As a matter of fact, you may be asked to submit your passport after the visa processing then receive it along with your documents via the envelope.

Like I said, you may use the courier company at the embassy. Guess there's FedEx or DHL there. Just hold some good cash. Cost will depend on the address you want your documents to be delivered.

If its long stay, pick an interview date via their online portal asap. You need enough time for the interview, visa processing, collection and preparation. So, you better start now!
