You are right, these things happen everyday on our roads but 80% of the time the perpetrator settles the family of the deceased and it ends there because the family knows it was a mistake and nothing can bring the deceased back.

Watching people drive on Nigerian roads, I am certain most accidents are not caused by errors, rather by recklessness
I was nearly involved in an accident recently at the Toll Gate near 7 Up
A guy in a Murano overtook us from the right and his car brushed our side rear view mirror in the process and as he pulled ahead of us, he nearly lost control of the car had to swerve frantically to avoid running into two cars in front of us. He was just lucky that he had just enough room to sneak between those two cars. Many lost lives and mangled limbs could have been the outcome

the Mistake - believing that he was watching a movie
Reality - the guy was reckless beyond belief

jailing her will do nothing for the dead, let by gones be by gones. it was an unfortunate accident, they shouldnt be harsh in jailing her. living with a conscience that she unintentionally killed someone and having the memory every single day is far worse than any jail sentence. let the woman be pardoned.
You are mad, if it were to be your father she killed innthe accident will u seat back on nairaland and type rubbish.

If she appeal this judgement and fail, supreme Court should increase the sentence to 10 or 15yrs as done in some climes.

5yrs is fair enough.
You do the crime you also do the time - No cheating

This young man is confused, your mum wasn't drunk and she wasn't driving recklessly, so how did she cause that accident? Manslaughter (if I'm right) has a punishment, it shouldn't be padded cos one is a celebrity, if she's sure of her innocence, she should move to the Supreme Court, it's that straightforward. All this public sympathy for folks in the upper class is becoming annoying tbh, same thing they've started for the LG guy.

The real victims here is the family of that Doctor that was killed any attempt to disrupt this is just pure self centeredness and insensitivity.

Talking about the Lekki Gardens guy. What happened to TB Joshua? Hope this will justify his case being taken seriously?

whatever justice is rendered will not bring back the late doctor,am not saying ibinabo should not be punished but common 5years for manslaughter is too much for her....even if u kill her sef the late doc wont come back...so y the fuss?
No fuss until the boy said she would start praying for the mother

Any justice rendered is not for the dead alone but for the living
Punishing her will ensure that the living can move around without undue risk of being pushed to the other side by some over speeding driver who do not set out to kill but end up doing just that

BTW - killimg Shekau - Boko Haram leader will not bring back Boko Haram victims
Punishing Yunusa will not bring back Ese's innocence
Should we discontinue all actions?

Join us, myself, Craig her son who is 14, Malcolm and Brian her other sons and her beautiful Daughter Zino who is just 8, and the rest of her family, to pray for my Mother. Let God decide what is just and what is not.

1st I didnt know she had children from other marriages? So mum have other sons away from ur dad?
Or
Are "you" sure this wasnt written by YOU?
Or
Why not say I and my brothers and sister.
Or
..join the Rest of HER family to pray for MY mother
Or
Whad else....
When u say join Members of HER family, invariably the writter forgot he was writting as the son, just like most script writers in Nollywood, they forget the storyline long into the movie, and start acting rubbish.

I refuse to believe my mother was driving recklessly or dangerous, as I've been in a car with her countless times and nothing has happened. On this occasion it was unfortunate, she was unlucky, her car flipped over which happens to a number of cars and another car smashed into her.
Such arrogance. He should also believe on this occasion it was unfortunate, she was unlucky, the judge sentenced her to 5 years imprisonment which happens to a number of people. With this letter...I'm sure they would be waiting to give her a wonderful welcome and joyful stay in prison.

dis emotional appeal will only work 4 d gullible. I followed d case when it happened. Ur mother will go to jail, QED. Infact 5yrs is too small. Onlookers & witnesses to d tragedy testified dat Ibinabo was drunk & dat d impact of her car into d victim’s was so violent that it took over half an hour to rescue d persons in d victim's car who had survived d crash but had sustained injuries. Ibinabo was never in coma as she only sustained slight injury but fled d accident scene.
Her initial nonchalant attitude to d victim's family & d fact dat she fled d scene to get treatment 4 herself leaving d victim behind is d reason d victim's family will never accept an out-of-court settlement. If they do, Dr Giwa's ghost will 4ever haunt dem. d chicken hav come home to roost 4 Ibinabo. BTW, she seems to hav learnt little as she still drinks.

In as much as I dnt support wat she did or wat unfortunately happened to d deceased some persons here are jst so judgmental n annoying are u any better? Assuming she died who will u blame. This things happen daily on our roads nobody sees dat some wil run away without taking responsibilty at least she waited to take responsibilty for her actions some pple bashng n condeming d woman u r worse so stop forming holier than thou I sympatize with d deceased my His soul rest in peace n may d Almighty grant d family d fortitude to bear d loss

Must u comment when u know little about d case?. Ibinabo did not wait but fled d accident scene & checked into a hospital 4 medical attention leaving d victim behind. Her vehicle was empty of any occupant but d police traced d owner thru d licence plate & discovered d Lexus Jeep belonged to her ex-lover Daniel Wilson. She was brought in for interrogation d next day & subsequently put under arrest. onlookers & eye witnesses to d tragedy testify to d fact dat she was drunk.
Rather than turn a blind eye, d punishment 4 drunk driving needs to be more punitive.
May d soul of Dr Giwa whose life was violently yanked away by a drunk Ibinabo continue to rest in peace.

Come to think of it. Accident can happen to any one, she was not planning to kill any one when she was going out, dat is y it is call accident . She doesn't deserve to go to jail bcus it was not intentionally.

But the victim, Dr. Giwa deserves to die right. It seems you know nothing about this case. Why do we use sentiment to becloud our sense of judgement. FRSC do say don't drink when you know you will drive. Had it been she was in her normal senses this incident wouldn't have happened.
Let us assume it was a mistake, what has she done for the deceased family, instead of her should be closer to them, give the man's children scholarships or setup a raise funding party for the family. She was busy going to Aso rock during Gej's tenure, went to party having fun and the family of the deceased are still suffering about the loss of a great gem, a breadwinner of the family.
Put yourself in Dr Giwa's family shoes. How would you feel?

Please don't get me wrong, am not disputing the fact that she made a great mistake by not attending to the family needs, what am saying is that they should not overull d sence that even a sain person or a person that took nothing close to alcohol can still find his or her self in that condition.

Hope your own father will be killed by a careless drunken driver and run away from the scene without helping him.

GO AND SPEND HER JAIL SENTENCE FOR HER so I'll know you have human feelings.

The bitch dragged the case for almost 10yrs in court claiming it's manslaughter because she has money instead of settling with the family amicably.

What has Ibinabo done to immortalise and show deep respect and remorse for the slain doctor?...The answer is NOTHING..but she had the time to party at the AMVCA as if nothing ever happened...As if the death of the doctor was one irrelevant, forgotten event...Cuz She feels that as a celebrity she shouldnt dwell on "ordinary issues" like that but to move on ASAP...Now Justice and Karma has jolted her to the reality that this issue wasnt actually erased yet as she probably thought..And her kid wants us to "Pray" for his mother all of a sudden...Did anyone from her family ask us to assist her in praying that the children the doctor left behind as at when he was killed be consoled by God himself?..Now cuz She can see that going to prison can make her lose all that celebrity career and also means no more parties and flexing just cold iron bars facing her for the next five years and they now want sympathy and prayers..Rubbish.

Hmmm.... As the incident happened, she ran away from the crime scene, left the victim, she even abandoned the car since the car belongs to her ex-lover Daniel Wilson so that they won't trace her but the security traced the owner through the car plate number.

Had it been she took the responsibility, begged the bereaved family, move closer to them or raise funds for them. Am sure the deceased family would tell govt to end the case.

Madam was partying with ex-leader, attending awards night, fighting for presidency and so on, she was not feeling remorse.
she deserves it, let her go and learn.
