shared by a facebook user i was a guest @ a friends traditional marriage in a village in akamkpa cross river state and was suprised when the father of the bride collected N65 naira as his daughters bride price. this man is not a rich man. he suffered to train his daughter through school, she just came back from service and got married. that was d first time i experienced such, cos normally in naija when a father has seen his daughter through school and you go to marry her, he gives you a long list and a big bride pride price that might scare you if u are not financially buoyant enough. i asked my friend why the pride price was that small and he told me that is their cultutre. the people of akamkpa believe that when you collect so much money for bride price , it means you are selling out your daughter. wow, what a culture. is there any tribe in Nigeria who believe in the same culture

In Benin, the family might demand for 100k etc,

But at the end they collect #24 and return the balance to the husband asking him to use it to look after their daughter.

Bride price shouldn't be based on how much u spent in training or raising ones daughter.

It has never been about the money for most.

Bride price is just symbolic and a rich part of our culture.

Some people don't even believe or have time for any culture, so they won't demand bride price.
