Tomatoes processing, that is a welcome development a a major boast for the farmers in that locality as there is a ready made market for their product now,i imagine what former senate president is doing with agric product from Benue that got wasted year in year out.

Those of you turning this into Igbo discussion will kill the value we can take from this discussion.

My takeaways

1. Dangote had advertised in the newspaper that the importers of tomato pastes need not go to China. I don't think he's interested in playing downstream market.
2. This means those going to China needs not be looking for forex
3. This means more of the wasted tomatoes will be put to good use
4. This means more money for farmers
5. This mean more value adding products will come out of tomatoes aside from tomato paste
6. This means more potential for tomato export into other African countries

So many tomato paste importers played dead while loans & venture capital was going into setting up this plant.

We sha nor wan hear the govt is planning to kill us when we see an outright ban of tomato paste importation... cos any sane business person won't like a situation where imports will make breaking even on investments impossible...

The factory didn't come on line in 2days, only Dangote & Erisco (Ric-Giko is nice BTW) put the resources for local manufacturing in place, others prefer the easy way of import, take the profit & repeat the cycle.......

It doesn't have to take them same time because we all see further by climbing on the shoulders of those who have gone ahead of us. A proof of this is the Igbo man with tomato paste factory, The only thing constant in development is change and all men have the capability to tow it's path.

That Igbo man you (Chief Erisco) had been in manufacturing since the 80s as well. You don't just wake up and say you want to upstage these people. they methodically built their businesses and their institution has gone through test of time.

In my street alone(where I live), the numbers of importers are more than those who aren't importer...

It saddens me alot..

boss I am well aware of it. His grandpa was like the first to bank with firstbank then Barclays bank. More than 20 camels were said to be loaded with bags of silver for the said account.
