They're already married. I have a doctor friend who knows her. I placed a call through to him now and he said they're married already. I learnt she is the first born of her parents and she is not the confrontational type. My friend claims their friends who were present at their wedding have been arrested by the girl's parents. It seems her family is influential. The law has joined them already and it late for the parents.

Lets us leave the aspect of being influential. The question is where they married Traditionally?

There is no legal justification for the arrest since the marriage wasn't under duress, she is not underage or of unsound mind(a medical doctor) and he did not practice bigamy. The police should release him before 24 hours so that they won't turn the guy into a quick millionaire. The amount he may claim for damages may run into tens of millions.

Are you single? Learn something; you are a Catholic, I believe. The Church doesn't require your parents signature. The Church doesn't require a sponsor. The Church requires only witnesses who are married in the church and are receiving the holy communion. The registry requires only witnesses who are of sound mind and of age.

This is not correct. In PH diocese you must attest that the parents gave their consent and traditional rites at minimum bride price have been fulfilled. You will also get signed bans of marriage from your home church.

It's rrue you'd be asked of you'd paid bride price (doesn't necessarily mean you pay to the Father and it is only when you are wedding in Church) The bans will be published and announced; when there are no objections, the couple can marry. It has nothing to do with Police. Even of there are objections, you are enjoined to let the priest in charge know. The Church investigates.

A 28 year old professional doctor still needs her parents' consent before getting married, WTF? The woman in question deserves a resounding slap for not legally pursuing this matter and the parents should be ashamed of themselves for this acute stupidity. If it was in a sane and civilised environment, the police won't even respond, in fact they will even lock up the parents for attempting to bribe the law but in Nigeria anybody with a spare naira in their pocket can easily bribe the men in black. How can some people here defend the parents in this situation? simple thing the parents could have done is let them be and not attend their wedding and whatever instead of ruining everything because they have money, what would they have done if they didn't have money? Take a gun to the guy's house?.

i love this , the woman trully loves the guy and is ready to stand against all odds to defen d man she loves. This love will last a long time cos it has passed through challenges. Some parents dont understand their children make dere decisions and they should stand by their kids decision.Cos non of them will live with her.
