Depends on what you call a fresh. They must have paid money to bypass all the driving school and VIO stuffs. How much did they pay? Official price of DL is N6,350.00

They presented the old drivers license number and a renewal was done without need for any driving school palaver... Tho one of them had to pay extra instead of going to bank... But it wasn't a first issuance by the time it was ready.
They both went for data capture.

Do u know what renewal means? ur info must ve been online on d database, n d old type was not uploaded. so tell us, how can what was not uploaded can now be downloaded.

check those licenses, they must be fake!

Did you check the FRSC database or someone told you so?
I'm not talking about hear say, go to FRSC website, enter your license number and DoB in appropriate tabs your details should appear if the old type you have/ had is original

This is a good development only if the driving schools are standard.

Seems one can get a drivers license as long as he's registered to a school not necessarily passing any rigorous driving test

And surely they can have more centres not just Abuja
Re: New FRSC Rule On Drivers License by adanny01(m): 12:15pm On Mar 20, 2016
The last batch of the old DL was issued around 1st half of 2011. Those who got the old one in 2012 like me had it back dated to 2011 losing 1 year of the 3 years. So mine expired as usual on my birthday 25th Jan 2014. If the DL was original, your DL number would have been in the system enabling you to enter an application as renewal.

The current issue is expected because those who had the old ones would have needed renewal since 2014. Those who didnt renew immediately did in 2015. You dont expect them to keep renewing old licenses that expired 2yrs ago and the owners didnt come for renewal. Probably those series of DL number have been taken out of the database expecting no one to come with such at this time. Therfore if anyone has a the old driving license it is considered a new application. Even when i did my new DL in 2014, some old licence was rejected.

The only new thing i have heard is the number of days you will go for driving school. You were required to go to an FRSC accreditated driving school, pass and get a certificate but time was not mentioned. They probably realised pple just go and pay and collect the cert thats why a period is now attached.

This has been the standard procedure since the DL was introduced that is why even though the DL is officially 6k5,no body has ever paid the actual fee and acquired one in the history
It has been a room the govt have delibrately opened to corruption.
2yrs back when I did mine, some people were asked to go and bring their cars down for test cos they followed the right way. Lol yea normal procedure.I overhead some on the queue saying "where dem want get car to test all of us"and was like is that for real, are we gonna be tested?when it got to my turn I was just signed passed and those that were saying so were requested to go and bring their cars for test.lol
If you have settled they don't give you the highway code booklet and give those that have not settled, once the officer see u with the highway code booklet,he know u ave not settled and stresses .
Same applies with the International Passport,
Maybe the Ministers death and tales of his driver not having a valid license now prompted their recent going by the books, but dem go soon tire, though dem egunje go cum plenty oh

that is where I love the. North, very minimal corruption in things like this, I paid the exact amount for my self and my wife in the bank, and we did not pay a kobo extra when we went to FRSC office.

A friend went to apply for a drivers license on Tuesday and he came back to narrate his shocking findings. He said he was told the process has recently changed.. That he has to register with a certified driving school and get training for 26days, after which he will be sent a certificate from Abuja to print out and then he can come back with it to apply for a driver license.

My friend and I are surprised at this. So I was wondering if any of you guys already know this or is someone speaking Latin?

Nothing new here.

They will collect money from you and issue you the drivers license certificate and continue the processing

It's a welcome development. At least it will reduce the number of mad people on the road. But it doesn't have to come from Abuja - that will slow down the whole process. Can't each state issue the certificate?

It can never reduce the number of mad people on the road. It will only generate more money.

I find it hard to believe, how many credible driving schools do we have in Nigeria, at least how many operate like AA driving school.

Trust Nigerians they will just bribe the operators of the driving school and obtain their license.

If you have money, all ths one. Na story, within three days .DL will come out
Re: New FRSC Rule On Drivers License by samokoduwa(m): 12:30pm On Mar 21, 2016
Lol, it true, but that for fresh drivers. If you want to renew you just go and follow due process with a proof of certificate from driving school. It confirmed here in benin, Edo state.

I don't know why the news is not on d site, but this is what is on ground now. we haven't processed any fresh application since last week. and as at this week, we have already started registering people to driving schools, after having waited to see if the decision cld be reversed. 26days is counting for some people already!

And I can bet that these certified driving schools are owned by .....?

This system cannot work in Nigeria.

What would have been more sensible is mandatory one or two day driver education course at privately run by government certified centres throughout the country.

This would in turn create employment throughout the country, both for the entrepreneurs and the course instructors.

That's a good thing on the side of the FRSC. But, have they told the general populace about this? Why will they just come up with this.

I bet you, in as much as its a good development, they FRSC and the Federal government want to defraud innocent citizens that are even struggling with the economic hardship already meted on them. No government official's driver will pass through this stress of getting a new drivers license. But let the common man stay without getting it, you will pay through your nose on the road. God save us.

@ the emboldened, I paid #6,350 for my renewal with no additional cost. I only gave #200 at the VIO office and additional #300 when i went back for collection of the original after the temporary one issued to me expired.
Re: New FRSC Rule On Drivers License by AkumahTalk(m): 12:37pm On Mar 21, 2016
Yes its true. FRSC recently partnered with "Gulder ultimate Search". I went to FRSC office and a road safety officer told me to do the following:

You have to get a document from a certified driving school partner, take it to VIO to get a Learners Permit, do some kind of a medical test alongside the test results, proceed to FRSC to obtain a form...bla bla bla bla!! by this time I noticed spit coming out from the sides of his mouth...eww!

I was tired and irritated, so I stopped him and asked him "Plix I need a drivers license next week, how can I get it" He told "That's why I'm here, just bring 15k" shocked shocked

This is a most welcome development if corrupt marshals don't circumvent it as our civil servants are most specialized for.
In the UAE, it's rigorous and costly.
Theory class 8 lessons must be attended before theory lesson test. Any lesson missed must be paid for and attended before the theory test. Failure means going back to pay and repeat the classes.
If you passed theory test, you register and pay for practice lessons for 32+ sessions or different stages. It could take average of 3months to complete but if on weekends, it could take up to a year.

If go on UAE roads, you hardly hear cars horning except it's absolutely necessary. Drivers respect pedestrians according to rules. Violation is heavy fine, no short cuts. Attempted bribery is insult on upon injury. Don't even think of it.
