A friend went to apply for a drivers license on Tuesday and he came back to narrate his shocking findings. He said he was told the process has recently changed.. That he has to register with a certified driving school and get training for 26days, after which he will be sent a certificate from Abuja to print out and then he can come back with it to apply for a driver license.

My friend and I are surprised at this. So I was wondering if any of you guys already know this or is someone speaking Latin?

Yes it is true and is there anything strange about that. With drivers killing Ministers and Dangote trailers in love with people's sitting rooms and bedroom I expect the FRSC to raise the bar even further. They should in addition set a minimum threshold for sobriety, literacy and sanity. Half of Lagos won't pass.

And I can bet that these certified driving schools are owned by .....?

This system cannot work in Nigeria.

What would have been more sensible is mandatory one or two day driver education course at privately run by government certified centres throughout the country.

This would in turn create employment throughout the country, both for the entrepreneurs and the course instructors.

ur opinion!

By "shocking finding", I hope you mean it in a good way, cos I love it, it's a welcome development, they might as well extend it to existing drivers sef, hiring a consultant to take a driving test with them in order to renew.

This change has been prompted by Ocholi's accident.

Yeah that's true. This is d right procedure for obtaining a driver's license. I applied two weeks ago did my biometric and capture last week then was given d temporary but didn't go thru these procedures ur frnd was asked to do cos I went thru a staff. He charged me 15k.
So d best tin for ur frnd to do to avoid stress and delay is to go thru someone who works there tho he will b charged extra. And to me it's better cos if he shld folo d procedure he will spend more and it will also take months to collect his temporary
.

If your friend is applying for the first time, then all the above procedure will be required. It has always be like that.

This what it's supposed to be like. Too many idiots behind the wheels these days causing deaths of innocent Nigerians. In the US its stricter, even UAE. Meanwhile back home in Nigeria you just walk in pay money and process paper you're done. Bull crap.
Many drivers in Nigeria don't understand a thing about road markings, road signs, basic safety tips, speed limits in respect to different roads. How pipo nor go die anyhow for road accidents?
Its about time. I'm so happy about this. I got out of an accident alive, so I know.

That's the PROPER way its meant to be done. Along with an eye test and one other requirement. But in most states they sell the driving school form for N500 and the eye tst guy will collect same to sign....

It's a welcome development. At least it will reduce the number of mad people on the road. But it doesn't have to come from Abuja - that will slow down the whole process. Can't each state issue the certificate?
You are right. Must everything come from Abuja. ? Any little thing Abuja.
Re: New FRSC Rule On Drivers License by iwakunbaba: 3:32pm On Mar 21, 2016
This na 9ja, apply tru any frsc official them go bring am come ur house. That's what I did. Especially in lagos, driving schools connived with road safety to make money from applicants.

You are very correct my guy,the new development just started.u can't obtain driver's license without driving school certificate and not just anyhow driving school, the ones accredited by FRSC .After your driving test ,it will take another 24 days to obtain your driving certificate from the federal govt not just from the driving school.the government want to have uniform driving sch certificate and also uniform driver license. it also apply to renewal, u must come with a driving school certificate.

, yeah, if the schools are equally regulated, not all those thieves masquerading as driving school, some of don't don't even know jack about driving, no education, they just put you on the road where you're a risk to your self and others. Do you know that even I went to driving school where I paid for 4 weeks driving school and yet everything I know about driving was taught to me by a friend. The idiot never taught me that I had to adjust my mirrors and all other safety measures before we enter the road, not until me nearly had accident when I tried to change lane cos I didn't know jack. This wasn't our first driving day, more like ending cos I decided he has to take me to highway. If not the learners permit plate. and the people following was careful, I for cause serious accident. He was already telling me to pay for another week as I feel I didn't learn enough. It's a another form of scam there, not to teach you anything tangible so you can continue paying and paying. After that incident, I called up a friend, he did the rest much more that the people I payed 30k to.

That's the norm, that means your friend was using fake driver license and he's not ready to settle boys. but for renewal driving school certificate is not required. to be sure if the expired license is fake or original, he should check on the website below: https://www.nigeriadriverslicence.org/

The official rate is N6,250, if he doesn't want the issue of waiting for 26days all he need to do is pay additional 6k-8k.

Its not a new thing bro. What I mean is that it has been on before PMB took the mantle of power, so it wasn't the president that introduced it.

It's strictly for fresh applicants, i.e if your friend is getting the drivers licence for the first time, he must produce an evidence that he has duely undergone a normal driving training before jumping on the road to drive.

Kindly encourage your friend to cooperate, it will pay off afterwards as the licence is now a vital document that is acceptable for so many process and even some powerful countries outside of Nigeria.

If the former, yes, that's the procedure.
If the latter, Nope, someone must have misunderstood the other.
It is the latest rule on drivers licence. Whether fresh or renewal, you must go through a registered driving school, where you will attend 'class' for 26days and MUST be marked present for each day online...
