Manchester United have refused to comment on reports that Jose Mourinho has signed a pre-contract to take over as manager in place of Louis van Gaal at the end of the season.

A club official told Reuters they would be making no response to the story in Spanish newspaper El Pais, which cited sources close to Mourinho.

Under the terms of the agreement, the El Pais report said, United would have to pay Mourinho £5m if they did not offer him a full contract by May 1 and another £10m if they failed to give him the job by June 1.

The report by Diego Torres cited a source with links to the Gestitude Agency run by Mourinho's agent Jorge Mendes, said United wanted a flexible deal because of a split in the Old Trafford board as to whether the 53-year-old was the right choice for the club.

I see it as a kind of power tussle between the board (Sirs Alex and Bobby) on one side, and the money bags ( Mr Ed and co) on the other side.
While the board are not convinced Jose Mourinho will sync well with existing culture of the institution, the moneybags don't care and are tired of being blamed for coach's ineptitude so they hope to force in the 'popular' choice with those pre-contract clauses.

He should try his hands on one of the top teams in the Championship (Derby, Brighton, Hull, Burnley etc.) or go abroad like GNev. If Man U, Chelsea or even City were at the top of the table at this time of the season 80% of pundits will bet on them winning the league, but if uber useless Arsenal were at the top now 80% of pundits will still believe that they will not win it, that's how uber useless your useless arsenal is. Manchester United captain Wayne Rooney is expected to return after the international break, teammate Jesse Lingard has said.

Rooney, 30, has been out since mid-February with a knee injury and was reported to be facing two months on the sidelines.

However, the forward said last week that he hoped his return "shouldn't be too long" after England's upcoming friendlies with Germany and Netherlands, which take place on March 26 and 29, and Lingard suggested he could be fit for the Premier League meeting with Everton on April 3.

"He should be back after the international break," Lingard told reporters.


Wayne Rooney is reported to have delivered a speech in the dressing room at the Etihad Stadium.
Rooney had been pictured at the Etihad Stadium ahead of Sunday's game against Manchester City, which had sparked speculation he was in line for an early comeback in the derby.

The Manchester Evening News reports that Rooney had been brought into the away dressing room to deliver a speech to rally his teammates.

The 1-0 derby victory that followed has revived hopes United can enjoy a strong finish to the season and secure Champions League qualification, with Louis van Gaal's side now just one point behind fourth-placed City.

Their chances of a top-four finish could be boosted by the return of several other members of the squad after the international break. 

Ander Herrera and Ashley Young, who both have groin problems, are in contention to return for the Everton game, along with defenders Phil Jones and Cameron Borthwick-Jackson.

"We have a lot of players coming back," Lingard added. "That's a massive boost for the squad."

Anthony Martial has lived up to his hefty price tag for Manchester United, according to France coach Didier Deschamps.

United paid Monaco £36 million to woo Martial last summer, a move that earned the then-19-year-old the title of "world's most expensive teenager."

But his international manager said Martial has shown he can live up to the pressure by scoring 12 goals in all competitions this season.

"Anthony is young but he has confirmed his potential in Manchester despite the weight of the price of his transfer," Deschamps said.

"He has progressed, he plays a lot. He is young and he is not tired.

"He is doing very interesting things with speed and impact. Usually he plays on the left but he can play as centre-forward too.

"It's good, he continues to progress, he comes regularly for the French national team [but] he has a lot of room for improvement."

Deschamps' France side take on Netherlands and Russia in friendlies this week, likely allowing Martial to build on his six caps.

Alongside him will be fellow Premier League players Dmitri Payet of West Ham and Leicester's N'Golo Kante, who has a chance to make his first international appearance.

koeman can't attract quality players to Manchester United same as pochettino. Una de forget say this guys are under no pressure whatsoever this season. (a) The impression currently from Van Gaal's body language is that Mr. Van Gaal is failing because he has not so good players despite spending multi-millions on recruits.This means from his perspective that He(Van Gaal) is a good coach and that the players are sub-par and he needs funds(another 300 mill probably) to take the team to the level Man U should be.
(b)Van Gaal was heavily backed in the transfer market but he has failed massively and the only way he can succeed is if he has another millions to spend.

Which of the two scenarios do you think a wise investor(our board) would adopt as reality?Do pipl really think our board is buying his bullshit of d players not being up to scratch?It's risky for any sensible businessman to give Van Gaal more money as things stand and I doubt our board is going to do that.This is also one of the reasons they didn't give him a dime to waste in the January window.
He is a failure and he will be gone after this season.No way he stays if he doesn't get guarantee that he will spend loads of money to bring d team up to an acceptable level and more importantly no way do the board trust him with such funds a 2nd time.Money is not tissue paper. He is a "spending" manager and the board realize this and will not be fooled.They wud rather reserve d funds for an astute Manager.
