deceive no one. Even a half plot of land in most places can cost as high as 600 thousand. Tell me where can an ordinary graduate get money for hectars of land that can cost up to 100 million naira to cultivate crops? Tell me? Alongsides maintenance and machineries like tractor, plough, irrigation transports etc?

Dude, food science and technology, as well as animal science are lucrative courses. Pls be informed.

An elite was once asked what could be the causes of the high level of unemployment in the country. He replied " the courses studied by most students in the higher institution" The point is there are some professions in Nigeria that does not exist at all. Meaning going to study such course is a high tremedous waste of time. How can a student say I have passion for animals, plants, soil. I love to play with flowers. I love farming etc. Shockingly, most students that studied such courses to fill the vacuum of their passions may end up with unrelated professions like teaching etc. The following courses does not exist in Nigeria.

1) Microbiology/ Biochemistry-- Those that studied medical laboratory science has sent these people packing from our hospital labs.

2) Zoology/botany- I heard of a zoologist who now works in Mr biggs

3) Anatomy/physiology- There is no available slot for a bsc holder of these courses in our hospitals except in the motuary. They have to further to be a lecturer. Infact, medical doctors are equally competing with them to be lecturers in those courses

4) Soil science/ Animal science/ All Agriculture courses---A five-year course that.may end u been disapppointed.

5) Physics/ Mathematics/ chemistry- (in an upper musical tone voice) ....be ready to be a teacher. ¶¶

6) Psychology/ philosophy/ Demography/ sociology-- I am just dumbfounded. hmmm Courses where you are been taught "how to kick your ass"
7) The list goes on and on.

Note- I am not saying those that studied the above course won't be succesful in life. But my point is they may eventually end up in a profession not relating or fully engaged to the course they had studied in university such as teaching, banking , Immigration Job, Police officer etc which are even thug of war to get. Mr Seun lalasticlala take note

OP na that agric u fvck up. You taught agric is all about plant farming and to get land before you can establish yourself, you forgot about poutry farming, fish farming, etc. Let me tell what you dont know agric scholars are the most easily set of people that can be their own boss in this current nigeria.

It's Ironic that the OP has the monicker "HighIQ" when he has a low iq.

Bsc courses are "breath" based because at the age of 16-18 when most people enter the UNI, they really don't know what they want to do, so they study their passion.

Besides the aim of going to the uni should be to get knowledge not get a job.

I studied Mathematics and i have never taught, I know a guy who studied Psychology and he's making serious money.

In this hot weather? It is easier said than done. So why are most agriculture graduates not engaging in Farming? It is expensive to set up.As I have said lands are now expensive to purchase and the issues of theft, fulani herds men and so many other factors such as maintenance, goods perishing, low fertile soil can cause any weak graduate to crumble in without delay.
https://www.nairaland.com/2634461/10-professions-nigeria-still-practice
All what you need is proper planning. There are no fulani herdsmen in my grandparent farmstead so off I go after am through with my agric course.

Agric farms are sited in hinterlands where lands are relatively cheap. You don't farm in Allen Avenue or mitema in Abuja. Back then in secondary school I used my own poultry farm of 60 birds for practical.

Re: Courses That Might Turn Your Passion Into Compassion by dotune(m): 1:07pm On Mar 22, 2016
Lol. We have a structural problem in this country.
First of all, majority of people who end up studying anatomy and physiology are the casualties that didn't get medicine and surgery. So even the university will post u to those depts so u don't end up losing on all sides. Now tell me, if depts are treated as alternatives to a course, why do u think that the students will really be prepared for application of what he or she has studied.
Even the lecturer teaching u went back for msc because he didn't get a job. While on msc, he was probably a loyal boy to lecturers, so they were able to secure a graduate asst for him, he did his phd and became lecturer 1...if it's a lie, u can go and ask ur lecturers how they ended up being a lecturer.
We get 4.5 cgpa because we can cram and pour. Not necessarily because we could apply it.
Most companies spend much on training graduates to be able to do specific tasks and hence they are able to employ few.
They always advertise for people who have experience because there's no time and money to train.
Nigeria should change their curriculum and syllabus except for courses like medicine and probably law, nevertheless even these ones need improvement.
In addition, compulsory vocational courses should be mandated right from secondary sch to university level.
A graduate in Nigeria should be also able to be certified by the time he graduates as a project manager, risk manager or officer, procurement officer, strategist officer or logistic officer to increase their chances of being employed.
Lastly, the Nigerian govt, it's parastatals and private companies must be mandated to employ these graduates per quota in exchange for tax reduction or whatever to ease the burden of unemployment... You can also add to these points, thank you.
