Again, as a US resident, look for any community college or university around you. Enroll as a non degree student. Non degree means, you will only do the courses you chose and paid for. No strings attached. After gathering your prereqs, then start applying to univeristy for the accelerated BSN. For a traditional nursing program, you don't need the prereqs.

Bro, please I have one more questn, my family that filed for me actually live in columbia and I dnt really want to stay there, can you advise a newbie like me to relocate to New york and start life there?

I plan to enroll for CNA program first, I heard 2weeks course is available, and while working as a CNA, I can then enroll for the courses in community college like you advised me.

Can I actually pay my rents and bills from the CNA and is there something like 2 weeks CNA course for real and are there jobs for them ?

@imperiouxx, please I still need your guidelines

Noodles and Maggi Chicken to the best of my knowledge is prohibited,in all just ensure u declare all the food items u have on u when the manifest will be given to u,it's always done when ur enroute Dubai to US.during my time i declared everything and when i got to the POE i was told that it will be subjected to secondary examination which didn't take up to 5mins...

That noodles and maggi chicken ish depends on your POE. I remember when my sister flew in through atlanta, the items were seized but when my parents flew dubai to US in november the items weren't seized.

I wouldn't totally agree, for instance,my first POE with naija food was JFK,i went thru secondary examination and cleared,my second experience was this january,Bwi MD to ATL,the border agents trashed all the naija food items i bought from African store in Philly and VA..

Hello Nairalanders,

I trust everyone is good. Just to appreciate all the gurus in this forum and all the people that have been posting their experiences.
I got an offer of admission from University of North Dakota for fall 2016 MS Geological Engineering. I have learnt a whole lot just being on this forum. I have no question to ask for now.

I will post my transcript mock at the due time (120days rule) and post my success transcript thereafter.

Thanks.

I flew in through JFK, mine wasn't seized, but for the egwusi, ogbono, crayfish. Naija pepper, I will advice you to get them dried probably grinded before you come, and try to declare the items.

Hi fam'..how are you all? So for those that travelled recently to the US, which food items are not allowed? and also mode of packaging.. Emirates baggage allowance is 2 bags each 23kg; is this strictly the rule or is there exceptions?
My flight is next week.
Thanks y'all...
For the Newbies:
Rule 1: Ask questions
Rule 2: Listen and read instructions here carefully.
Rule 3: Pray,Pray,Pray.
Rule 4: Repeat rules 1,2,3.
Should be writing next from obamaland.
Bye!
No exceptions on the baggage allowance for emirates except you're ready to pay $180 for additional bag. Pack your stuff in clear ziploc bags or any clear packaging. Try not to use any paper to wrap anything. They will give you issues at MMIA. Don't put powdery stuff like milk, pepper, garri or yam flour in your hand luggage. They will throw it away. Make sure your electronic devices are charged. Have a great flight.

dickoflife, 120days rule. means you can appear for you student visa interview within the 120 days to the start of your prospective program. say for instance, if you are starting fall 2016, classes starts about 22nd of August, count back from that start day to 120 days. appear for interview within those days and not after or before.

Great question.
Where did this 120-day rule come from? I learnt some students are even given visa 8 months prior to their program start date.
Can anyone shed more light on this, because what the VOs clearly say is that one cannot enter the US 30 days or more earlier than the expected date of resumption.

When we came back to US in Dec, we weren't well informed. We took delta airline that had to first stop at Atlanta. We made mistake of not grinding the melon seed and was seized. They told us we should have grind it. Dried and ground seeds enter. Poultry produce including maggi chicken are not allowed. We have crayfish in another bag, which they didn't check/seize, so we don't know if it was skipped by chance or not. The ground pepper and ogbono were checked and passed. The Nigerian inspector at Atlanta's agric screening gave us a paper that contains info on this website: https://www.aphis.usda.gov/aphis/home The guy said if you have herbs, it must be soaked in alcohol or water before they can allow it in. But by then I have already given up on delta airline. We were later told that the restrictions at NY airports is not as tough as that in Atlanta.

VO:which sch did u apply to?
My reply:NCAT
VO:why did u chose the sch?
My reply:being a technical institution, focuses more on sci and tech.which will add great value to my academic career also after exchanging couple of mails with the provost of research who directed me to the research team head of comp-sci,i was convinced of a good student-lecturer relationship which will give me easy adaptation to the sch learning process.I also mentioned the mild weather and climatic condition of the state.
VO:who is ur sponsor?
My reply:my dad
VO:what does he do?
My reply:he is an engineer by profession, ceo of enilolobo motors and basically deals with auto sales and has a large workshop for repair and services.
VO:how much is his salary?
My reply:i am not certainly sure of his income as that depends on the gross income and net profit after payment of tax, salaries and utility bills.
VO:could you give any likely figure he receives as salary?
My reply:like I said I can't say with all certainty but it will be btw 500-600k.
VO:did you apply into any other sch?
My reply:yes,NCCU
VO:what do u do?
My reply:I am a network administrator;NB:The 3rd time I went I was already working with mtn as an IP core network engineer as the answer.
VO:are u married?
My reply:No;NB:i was married b4 I went for the 3rd interview.i got married Aug 15th.so she didn't ask.
VO:do u know any1 in the institution?
My reply:NO
VO:Have u traveled before?
My reply:NO;NB: I went to Ghana before the 3rd interviiew.so this wasn't asked in the 3rd interview.

But while I was asked why I chose the sch in the first interview appearance ,I developed a cold feet and lost my consciousness.the second interview was great and the lady had to call the first interviewer, switched off the speaker, had a chat and denied the visa again.the 3rd time was great also but it was thesame interviewer in the 2nd appearance that did that again.i was composed, maintained eye contact and pour out freely.i was the 3rd person she attended to after refusing 2 student applicant.
Now I am considering using a joint sponsor, myself and my dad.
Sorry for your denials. Unfortunately, you weren't able to respond pretty well to questions and also unable to maximize your home ties.

But not to worry, you'll get it next time if you do the "right thing".

Atlanta POE is legendary for seizing all sorts of things, I am never flying Delta Airlines again. I have never had issues flying in from a foreign country (amsterdam and spain) directly to O'Hare. At atlanta my indomie got seized i nearly cried.

Like someone said, Atlanta has issues and I'm guessing its the sheer numbers of Nigerians that pass through that POE that caused that. I had everything you had when we came back in Jan via LAX. Even more, Peak Milk, Maggi Chicken, Indomie Chicken, Tubers of yam, ungrinded crayfish and even dried herbs that's not soaked at all. We got it in, no issues.

But if a first timer isn't sure or the POE is strict, listen to imperiouxx and err on the side of caution. Those things can be gotten here so leave them in Naija.

Relocating with someone who only visited Nigeria twice would be a big problem, almost impossible.
