Thanks for your reflective response. Generally many pple on nairaland are zombies and wailers combined. They lack power of independent thinking and respond to issues rashly.

I believe all the teachers in that school can't be that mad as to single that girl out for such punishment. We all know that the teachers seemed to have overreacted but we as parents also sometimes behave alike when we face an unyielding or a child who is not ready to change.

We should be sensible in our comments. Our borrowed attitude to issues of discipline is gradually dipping our future leaders in serious danger. Cane is synonymous with teachers and Wether we like it or not, there are children in schools and at home that will never sit up to correction until they are given a dose of it.

All that is needed is when doing the needful be it the use of Cane or counselling, it should be done with love, and not out of anger or provocation.

You are in support of child abuse. And considerin yur comment, yu will also be in support of jungle justice. She is just 14yrs. None of the perpetrators wuld wnt any of such treatment to b done to their children. That was inhumane. She was sexually assaulted too considerin d fact that she was canned on her bare butt by shameless married/non-married male teachers. This will definately affect her, to yur amazement, negatively. She will probly experience mental trauma due to the assault and it will take God's grace for her to over come dat.

You might not know that most of these so called private schools hire people who aren't even skilled in educating a child, all they think about is money, that's why they make a mess of a kids life.

I'll have you know that teachers, don't just teach kids, they instill discipline, guide, tutor and mentor kids, teachers act as in loco parentis to kids, so that the kids, will be not just good to their families, but to the society at large, because a damaged kid is not only a danger to himself/herself, but to the society at large.

You have no idea the amount of bribes these private schools pay to ministry of education inspectors, just to stay in business. Some of them aren't even registered.

Once again, everybody is at fault here. The teachers went overboard, so did the head girl, and the girl that was slapped. The parents who even posted this news, failed to even tell us what their daughter did, that made the head girl slap her. They omitted a very vital information. I want to know what spurred those teachers to beat that girl like that.

Some crazy slots are actually supporting dis barbaric act. A student (prefect or no prefect) does not have the right to slap fellow student. Even a teacher has no right to beat a child except under extreme cases of stealing, fighting, etc. The offence must be documented and punishment given must also be written in school punishment book in care of the principal. that is the law for heaven's sake.

I attended a command school and I have seen students being flogged with canes while water was being poured on them and also while rolling on the parade ground.

I have seen students crawling with their knees on the rough parade ground while the knees are blistering.

But of course it had to be the one of the greatest offences e.g jumping the school fence to avoid classes or for whatever reason.

I have seen a student almost being expelled simply because he disrespected his teacher.

We even had a guard room then where they could lock you up if you really misbehave but to get most of these punishments you must have committed a grave offence.

My first day in secondary school as a little girl I was flogged by a soldier in fact my whole class was flogged simply because we didn't know we were supposed to sit up to greet a military personell (The school A.O) instead of hitting the desk and saying good morning Sir and the way we were flogged was you stand up and bend your head to touch the desk that way your back will be curved and the cane will enter well. It was just one stroke but ehn the ripples of pain it sent through our bodies chai we never made that mistake again.


Anyway they should have just expelled her instead of the beating since we are in the era of no child caning.

Besides those are marks of the caning, It will fade away. Its water cane marks. I am a bit surprised that caning is making the news.

Zianab the headgirl is proud and very full of herself because her father is a senior police officer. She is rude, saucy and wicked. She recently punished a boarding student by locking her out of the dormitory and this student slept outside all night in the cold. She has no mutual respect for her fellow SS3 mates and treats everyone as trash especially the junior students.

Oge and other later comers were asked to go arrange some tables as our punishment for coming late to school. While we were arranging the tables, i saw the headgirl who was supervising the punishment ask Oge to stool down. Oge obeyed. while stooling down, she threatened to slap Oge. Oge told Zianab that she had no right to slap her because she has not done anything wrong. Zainab now slapped and Oge slapped back before Zainab reported to the school authorities who now made Oge a scapegoat.

Oge was made to cut the grass at the back of SS1 block. She did not come to school the next day and some of her friends went to check on her at home. The next day the principal called her friends together and threaten to severely punish anyone who goes to visit her again.

She has missed her mathematics, history, computer and CRK exams and i wonder if our principal would let her write them. The punishment from our teachers in school is too much. Someone please help us.

. misspeacful I know teachers flog mercilessly sometimes and headgirls can be full of themselves but I ask you did she use make up or not? Was she resisting punishment? Did they ask her to strip as stated by the writer? Was she slapped severally! Am not supporting anybody but let's be plain in stating facts! If this case blows out of proportion and the girl is found guilty she won't end up liking what happens to her just saying dou!

Its almost impossible to attend a Command school without having such stories, the discipline given in those years is enough to shape you towards the right direction in life.
Besides I think that was the first and last time I was flogged by a soldier, I conformed sharply and I obeyed instructions.

If you pass through a command school and you allow the school to pass through you, you will be very disciplined.

Disciplined enough to keep to time, be respectful etc even in your dressing, If as a senior you wear a skirt that is too short or too tight they use scissors to slit it right at the center where it will be impossible to patch and you will be forced to sew another, by the time all your bad skirts are damaged you will conform to the school's at least knee length standard when sewing a new one.

There was also this style of trouser hem then I think its called fold up or something if they catch you as a guy they cut it out

If your barbed hair is too bushy, they use scissors to cut just a portion of the hair,you will be forced to go to the barber.

I and like two of my friends once tucked out our shirts outside the school premises after school ooo, but still within the cantonment our A.O was passing on his bike as we were walking down, He just said ehen and he seized our bags I had to explain to my mum why I was not with my school bag which the house keys were in. I collected my bag the next day.

No dangling earrings, it had to be a small pin up earring or else it will be seized, if the earring is too wide despite the fact that its was a pin up it will be seized and you dare not paint your nails.

Nobody had the time to pamper anyone, you shape in or shape out and my set we had a lot of difficult students. I think CDSS motto was/is still discipline and knowledge and to be honest I got a fair share of both.

These past few years teachers cant even talk to students they will be raising shoulders just because they are now as tall as they are.


I have to admit that the caning for this girl was a bit much but then its caning and it will heal.
But If she did slap a prefect in a command school she would have gotten more than that.


To answer your question, I am not a writer (at least not literary writing), I just describe/narrate well I think.

Hmm! That's nice. I like the fact that discipline was instilled in the school. I usually noticed most of the Command Day Secondary School student are usually very neat and well dressed even outside.

About you being a writer or not, I think you should try it out as a hobby. You have a natural talent for it. Try writing short stories or novellas just for the fun of it.

At this point, we are talking about assault and battery, the reason for slapping and slapping back doesn't matter anymore. Because judge won't even want to concern him/herself with what caused the battery.

The cane thing was common in our leaders generation and even those getting involve in cultism now generation but still yet our leaders still keep embezzling our money n Nigeria still experiencing bad leadership.
