This is a white elephant project destined to fail from the onset.

I believe the aim of the project is just to steal money. Below are my reasons

1. 15 million dollars can not build a 100 megawatt solar power plant. You will need a minimum of 150 million dollars for that at the current power plant benchmark cost.

2. Solar power plant does not generate power 24 hours a day. It stops working at night, saying it will provide 24 hours power is only meant to deceive people.

3. Any government in southern nigeria that wants to build a successful power plant will build a gas powered power plant. It is cheaper to build than solar, the required gas feedstock is abundant in the south and it is a proven technology that can be easily scaled up. Every politician knows this, any one going for solar power plant in the south is simply after the sensational headlines, while looting in the process.

I refuse to be deceived.

Unfortunately, our supposedly abundant gas has been the bane of power generation in this country. As you said, gas turbine is easier and cheaper to start, however, it is not the first choice of power generation for a city.

Steam power and hydro power are! These are used for base load while gas turbine are switched on during peak demand. Do you know why is this?

Gas turbine plant has limit to Megawatt generation while the other two can go into thousands of Megawatts.

Again, you can get 24 hours from solar generator. There are battery storage during reduced light. If oyibo with no sun can power for 24 hours talk less us. This is a good source of energy for the North. Note, I am not referring to those quack solar street projects! Those are rip off.

Thank you!

Personally, I think the solution to our power problem lies with the states.

Each state should provide power for her people. Simple.

This national grid of a thing is slowing the country down.
My opinion too. The state govts stand a better chance of running profitable ventures than the overly mighty, corruption prone federal govt. I pray i see the day when state govts will patner with foreign companies to own power utility companies. If only the states know the enormous potentials that they have.

bad belle, how many is your state generating? in fact what's the current power output nationwide?

if all 36 states of the federation should generate 100 mega watts of electricity, put it together and tell me if we haven't solved quarter of the power problems of the country

That's what am talking About:- Earlier on Mr Babatunde Raji Fashola said he wanted to increase electricity bill by 45%. Only when he would remember that he was made Minister for Power and not the Failed PHCN or NEPA (Hydro Electric Power) dat he would realise there are zillion better ways to produce 24hrs electricity for the country a gud move by the Governor anyway

Calabar South was my neck of the hood for a Year.

I remember when I came through that town in 2010, Calabar was the truth. Clean, tidy, Marina was so much fun and had two Night Clubs in it. TINAPA was not fully functioning then but it was not dead either. The Water park and T-Mart still had some Action in em. Fridges for lunch was compulsory. 11/11 with that big ass flag was the first landmark I knew in Calabar. Marian Road.. memories..

I even went up to Obudu.. That place remains the most breathtaking place I have been at on Earth.

Went back to Calabar in 2013 to show my Fiancee the city and it was soooooooooooooooooooooooo anti-climatic. Dirt all over the fhucking place. Marina was so run down I couldnt believe my fhucking eyes. Everything looked so different.

Its Sad what has happened to Calabar... That City had a glimmer of hope and then POOOF!!! Its gone!

This is how it's supposed to be. States should be the ones solving their power problem not FG. States should control their resources. We can't continue with this system of government.

See memories. Cool. Obudu still has the great view though. That's nature however.

The only thing the city got going now is the carnival. The state still hasn't found ways to monetize it though. Keeps getting sponsorship spent on the carnival, not making money from it. Just loud noise and dancing then over! Then repeat.

Not just Calabar itself, seen the inlet roads? Whew! Many other states sef are disappointing.

I refuse to be deceived.

Knowing what I do some of your points are right, others are wrong. First, Ayade always does things in phases. I am almost certain this proposal is just one phase. He has other agreements working right now and this feeds into the second point. His back up are mini fuel power plants he plans to build. The first one a 4 Mw plant at Obudu (his place) is virtually ready and I understands there are plans to have them all over the State. I agree that Cross-River state is perhaps the state with the least solar potentials (there are certain months of the year when you virtually beg God to see the sun due to excessive precipitation) however over capacity can handle this flaw. On the issue of a gas plant I beg to disagree. Oga. Are you not tired and fed up of hearing gas plants. Cross-River has no oil and gas, the Federal Government's own IPP in the state has only one out of four gas turbines active due to uncompleted/inadequate gas lines. Why should he go down that terrible lane. What Cross-River has in excess is water. Hydro power is what the state can exploit massively. There are countless rivers where mini plants 5 - 10 Mw plants can be built. On/near the coast he can deploy tidal power. I like his initiatives and drive. He is big on ideas in a small state and I honestly wish him the best. What Cross-River lacks in traditional south-south resources it more than makes up on them in great human capital from above average leadership to a peace loving people. Wish them the best.

Thats mental laziness.

Same state with a new governor, different results.
