An elite was once asked what could be the causes of the high level of unemployment in the country. He replied " the courses studied by most students in the higher institution" The point is there are some professions in Nigeria that does not exist at all. Meaning going to study such course is a high tremedous waste of time. How can a student say I have passion for animals, plants, soil. I love to play with flowers. I love farming etc. Shockingly, most students that studied such courses to fill the vacuum of their passions may end up with unrelated professions like teaching etc. The following courses does not exist in Nigeria.

1) Microbiology/ Biochemistry-- Those that studied medical laboratory science has sent these people packing from our hospital labs.

2) Zoology/botany- I heard of a zoologist who now works in Mr biggs

3) Anatomy/physiology- There is no available slot for a bsc holder of these courses in our hospitals except in the motuary. They have to further to be a lecturer. Infact, medical doctors are equally competing with them to be lecturers in those courses

4) Soil science/ Animal science/ All Agriculture courses---A five-year course that.may end u been disapppointed.

5) Physics/ Mathematics/ chemistry- (in an upper musical tone voice) ....be ready to be a teacher. ¶¶

6) Psychology/ philosophy/ Demography/ sociology-- I am just dumbfounded. hmmm Courses where you are been taught "how to kick your ass"
7) The list goes on and on.

Note- I am not saying those that studied the above course won't be succesful in life. But my point is they may eventually end up in a profession not relating or fully engaged to the course they had studied in university such as teaching, banking , Immigration Job, Police officer etc which are even thug of war to get.
U lied!

You really don't know much about what it means to have a psychology degree, or do you?

Allow me to crave your indulgence,

With a degree in psychology, you can be anything, and your choices aren't limited to one profession

We have ,
Forensics psychologists
Clinical psychologists
Educational and Developmental psychologists
Work and organisational psychologists
Clinical neuropsychologist
Health psychologists
And much more, a psychology degree broadens your horizon and opens for you lots of unending opportunities.

It only becomes a problem when you stops at the undergraduate level and you don't further to get your PsyD or PhD.

I studied human anatomy and I graduated with a cgpa of 3.42. its been two years now and I have not been called for any interview talk less of getting a job despite all the jobs I av been applying for.

I opted for the course out of ignorance, desperation and pressure from family who were tired of seeing my face around after applying for med and surgery twice without success. I won't even wish my enemy to study anatomy. its the worst course ever. and the course is as hard as stone even medical students find it more challenging than any other medical course. I don't even know what to do now. I need a job desperately so I can save money and start up a business then go back for further studies. I wish my mum is buoyant she is the only one who would help. Got has got my back though.

I dnt usually say this but op... Your write up is trash.....

Afta point No.1, I stoped reading becuz you dnt even knw where a Microbiologist and a biochemist ( they are not limited to a lab ; infact very few of em desire to work in a lab)...

Bt again Op I tink yur wrt up is frm a myopic POV........
Re: Courses That Might Turn Your Passion Into Compassion by HeavenTree: 4:41pm On Mar 22, 2016
Going to the university does not mean you are graduating to look for Job. A University Graduate is better placed to solve community and national problems, to make himself a better man and to have an intellectual and factual mindset. So you are 100% wrong in your writeup, it is myopic. Guess what? Withdraw your Article.

Well, i totally disagree with mathematics and physics mentioned on the list. I work with a software development firm and we actually recruit a lot of mathematicians. Also, alot of E & P companies have mathematics graduates working as petroleum engineers. The mathematics background actually simplifies engineering and makes it easy to adapt to the engineering principles and fundamentals

I studied sociology and still totally agree with you. I've this believe that, If we learn to fix the right people in their true places or institution of practice, then we can to some degree, abate the challenges posed by Unemployment in the country.

Re: Courses That Might Turn Your Passion Into Compassion by Nobody:

It's Ironic that the OP has the monicker "HighIQ" when he has a low iq.

Bsc courses are "breath" based because at the age of 16-18 when most people enter the UNI, they really don't know what they want to do, so they study their passion.

Besides the aim of going to the uni should be to get knowledge not get a job.

I studied Mathematics and i have never taught, I know a guy who studied Psychology and he's making serious money.
That's the problem. As at the time most ppl are entering into school, they are not thinking very seriously about the implications of what they are studying. They just want to get on with the next thing...after sec school...university.

I was one of such ppl...and it's only now I'm realizing my mistake.

Does op even know what Biochemistry/Microbiology mean? Do you think these guys only work in hospitals? Do you know the processes involved in the production of the coke;beer;wine;yoghurt etc you drink? Do you know the processes involved in the production of the drugs you take? Do you know the processes involved in producing the Agro-chemicals you use? You use creams and soaps don't you? Op is sick
This is a country where even engineers teach Physics and Maths in secondary schools and earn trash. Where pharmacists teach chemistry? What the hell is even wrong with teaching?
I was going to ask u that. Why does everyone seem to look down on teaching? Even the teachers themselves.

I dont know for them. If there is any profession I respect, Its gotta be teaching.
You get to partake in the moulding of an individualand look with pride when that individual turns out fine... also your heart bleeds when any of your students turn out wrong. My mum was a teacher, the old school type discplined and shìt. I know how her students have blessed her.

deceive no one. Even a half plot of land in most places can cost as high as 600 thousand. Tell me where can an ordinary graduate get money for hectars of land that can cost up to 100 million naira to cultivate crops? Tell me? Alongsides maintenance and machineries like tractor, plough, irrigation transports etc?
Are you sure is HighIQ or LowIQ, what do u mean by a plot of land costs 600k, I am a computer scientist but my parents are agricuturists, my dad an Agric engineer produces machines and my mum an Agric scientist lectures.
I av a friend who has a small farm and is also a consultant, his farm is in Ogun state in most of those small states you can get farms for much lesser costs. Go to d north you would see an hectare for 500k so please remove agriculture from your list or do u think we import all our foods. Smh

Too many Nigerians just have a warped psyche. They should respect the ppl who help to mould and shapen their children intellectually, morally, psychologically and otherwise. I totally respect and love teachers. Not the ones who took up teaching as a last resort out of frustration, though. Because those ones are not proud of what they do.

They look down on the educated teacher and exalt the semi-illiterate politician.sad

Only people with low self esteem would look down on something they worked hard to get. Only if the person had to resort to teaching because he/she couldn't get a job. A sensible teacher would know he/she is on par with a medical doctor or lawyer or anybody since they are both professionals in their respective fields. Another problem people run away from it is because of the income.
I just don't like the fact that the op is making MCB/BCH sound meaningless
