Good mornig,

I have a B1/B2 visa granted last year on my passport with my maiden name. I however changed my name to my married name and was issued a new passport( even though the old one has not expired) with my new surname.

can I still travel with my visa even though it is in my previous passport and not the new one?

Hello Professor554,

Applicants and their stories have to make sense. If you are a genuine student with the ability to pay, you will be considered as a whole.

Blueberryblast:
Good day dearest VO,

I am a permanent resident in the US getting married soon. Please if after filing for a US immigrant visa for my hubby, I get pregnant and need him to come witness the birth of his first child in the US, will he be granted a short stay non-immigrant visa for birthing purpose (even while the immigrant visa is still pending) as we would not want him to miss out on such significant family landmarks?

Thank you Sir as I humbly await your kind response.

Hello Blueberryblast,

It's hard for people with pending IV cases to get non-immigrant visas since the biggest hurdle of all applicants is to demonstrate that they do not intend to immigrate to the United States.

Hello OmoAje1,

The expiration date is the latest you can enter the United States. They will determine at the border how long you can stay.

Hello nomannomi,

1) A B1/B2 is the appropriate visa for tourism
2) Yes it might raise an eyebrow at POE if you show up in a different town with a different travel purpose

Regards,
Abuja NIV Team

Thanks NIV for your prompt response.

My question again, exhibition was in Illinois 8 months back, now I wanted to go to Texas on

B2 purposes. Now trip purposes is meet family members, relatives etc.

Is totally wrong to go on this visa for tourism purposes if primary purpose was not fulfilled?

My observations and experiences of some other guys, I saw at POE sometimes they just rush

you back even you are acquiring admission on valid reasons!

Please clarify, is it workable that I arrange my trip on this visa for tourism, or its not as per

their law that b1/b2 can not be used in future for other purposes oif not used on the first

place of its original intended purpose.

sometimes plans change and one couldn't manage to travel at the first place.

Hope you will respond.

Regards,

Noman

Hello VO,

I am asking on behalf of my niece who is a Nigerian but schools in a university in Ghana. She is a final year student that will be finishing this December and is trying to get a NIV to visit me and my family for summer. She applied at the embassy in Nigeria and was denied with reason from VO being "she should re-apply in December when she is done with her education"

She would like to re-apply as we have already made vacation plans for this summer and she will not be able to come visit in December because she will be getting ready for her mandatory youth service year and also has plans of completing her masters during her service year.

Question is can she re-apply in Ghana (because she is back in school) or would she have to come back to Nigeria to re-apply?

Thanks

Hello,

Can I tell the Visa Officer that will interview me about the mistakes on my DS160 before he starts asking me questions?

I made mistakes with my name in native alphabet, country of education (I put the right city, town, region) but mistakenly put Nigeria. I saw all these mistakes after printing the form out.

Looking forward to hear from you.

Hello VO. Hope you are annoying your holiday? I am a US citizen. I became a citizen through abduction by my uncle when I lost my dad. that means my biological mom gave me up for abduction. now I am married and just had my first baby. I want my biological mum to come assist me.
My questions are.
Can i still apply immigrant visa for her?
If no, can I send her an invitation stating she is my biological mum and I need her to come see my baby?
Note - we've always being in touch and always come to Nigeria to see her.

Hello vamum,

1) It is highly unlikely we told her to re-apply. We do not tell this to applicants. If you do not qualify, that is the end of the conversations.
2) Yes she can apply in Ghana -- but the outcome will likely be the same if she was recently informed that she did not meet the qualifications for the visa class.
