You don't go to the market everytime you want to cook and be buying things like rice, yam, garri, semo, dry pepper, crayfish, maggi (seasoning cubes), salt, red/veg oil, stock fish, dry fish, spices, stock fish, melon, beniseed (hope I got that), onions, ginger and the rest of all those smaller items that can last without any serious form of preservation.

At least I learnt this from my parents. Monthly, bimonthly or quarterly you stock the above items in the store.

So when the issue of soup money comes, we already know it's for things like meat, smoked fish, Waterleaf, Eruru (Afang), Ugo, green, hot leaf, fresh pepper etc. as the case may be and depending on the dish/soup you want to prepare.

You save money this way.

Depends on taste and location.

Some soups are naturally more expensive than others.
