@OP.

If you're talking about vocal prowess, then, remove D'Banj from that list because he can actually sing. In fact, D'Banj and Flavour are among the best in that regard- at least for those I know. But, if you're talking about writing quality songs, I'm sorry, there's nobody that I know of in Nigeria at the moment. Nearest I can think of in that regard though is Asha and 2Face, but it seems they're losing it the more songs they make.

When it comes to rap Olamide has lost it compared to when he started, Lil Kesh, Victor in fact those YBNL guys are just noise makers except Adekunle Gold.
Psquare have stopped listening to their songs few years now. Dbanj has lost the touch also.
But Sean Tizzle I like guy, Jessy Jags, blackface any day even though he is not making wave in the industry, I like Seriki that guy is a multiple rhymer, Vector, OD,Mode 9, Terry Tha Rapman.
What is Tekno singing, baby palanga. what is palanga?
What is coded thinz by 2baba?

Waje, Tiwa Savage, Yemi Alade and Simi are doing fine.

Yes, you are the only one... tongue

But seriously. Even if you don't like her, or her music...you can't deny that she has a great voice and can sing live anywhere in the world. Abi you think say no beans to do backup for heavyweights like Mary J Blige and George Michael like she did before relocating to Naija? Mind yasef o! smiley wink

Poor me.

I don't find her voice great. In fact I don't even want to hear it. I think she screeches. Listening to eminado or the other song with Bello makes me upset. But it's just me, apparently, so I'll mind myself. No be beans to do back up, but it also doesn't mean you have a great voice. smiley

I'm talking about the hiphop industry. Pasuma is on D list cos he's trying much to be an hip hop act and mind u even d Fuji sef he's wack.... It's only oluyole wan she carnival oooo and he's gonna repeat this like 1 million times within an hour of performance

Ich quote author=Gaddafithe2nd post=44660997]
Remove Pasuma from it. Fuji music is totally different from all this yeye music that olamide and co sings. They have good lyrics and perform well on stage with their bands.
If it is hip-hop pasuma isn't good in it yet
You are right.
Pasuma is average when it comes to Fuji compared to Saheed Osupa, K1, and Ayuba.

Four Nigerian Singers Who Actually Can Not Sing
Good music, anywhere in the world, brings life to the saddest of soul, safe to say, Music is life. Now when you want to rate a music as being good, the first criteria on the list will definitely be the voice. A good voice is etched in timbre and tone and can withstand the heaviest of pitch be it high or low.

Good music makes you stay in that blue or pink buble, that place you feel safe and hapy at all time, which makes listening to a bad song make one feel likestanding under a tap and allowing the water run into your ear drum.

It beats me when I hear people comparing a terrible singer who sounds like he or she swallowed a huge fish and decided on using alcohol to wash it down to an excellent vocal powerhouse singer all because the latter is selling more record…till date, am stil at a loss.We will be using the number one criteria of good music (Voice) today to list five top artistes who are the worst singers yet in the industry.

1.Davido: Except most people want to lie to themselves will they claim this fine and successful gentleman is a good singer, lets face it, Davido, is a terrible singer. Some would want to claim it’s because he has a raspy voice…no child…its just clear, he is a terrible singer. When he sings, it sounds like mid aged Patrick Star of Spongebob Square pants series.

2. Kcee: Yeah, he got away with the Limpopo song and felt, ‘Hey People are enjoying me, why not keep on making people fall into coma every time I sing and make my money’ hence Bureau de Changer. No argument, no debate…Kcee, should stop singing already, but again, I think with training, he can get there. You can do it Kcee, we believe in you.

3. D’banj: No doubt you are an entertainer, but no sir, singing is a no no. D’banj, sounds like an over-riped mango sometimes having its skin peeled off aggressively with a screw cork instead of a knife.

4.Lola Rae: I have listened to her songs over and over again and all I can think of is barbie dolls making funny noises but then I realized its just her voice.

This list is solidly based on my opinion. Which singer do you guys think should make the list.

they are not good yet they are making waves from the nonsense they sing. You must be joking
Re: Four Nigerian Singers Who Can't Sing by delivryboy: 11:46am On Apr 13, 2016
The fact that three of them (D'Banj, Davido and Lola) cannot sing in your local dialect does not mean you should make such a blanket statement. 1. D' Banj sang "why me", "tongolo", "fall in love", and that song with Kanye and so many more very entertaining songs and very good live shows. 2. Davido sang "Gobe", "Aye", "damiduro", "fans mi", "skelewu", "ekuro" and so many more songs. I won't talk about Lola, back to you, if I may ask, who are the good artists? Da Prince (that guy music no be him destiny), mc galaxy? Dekunle Fuji?. Brother you are just hating on these guys for some other reasons and you wish you can bring them down with your post, guess what? It won't happen. OP, one last word for you before I resume my work, GET A LIFE!!!

My friend respect fela, he wasn't terrible in music and he had very nice baritone and soprano voice when he deems fit to use them , listen to "teacher no teach me none sense"

In others points of yours , you're spot on.

How can one say Davido,Dbanj and Kcee can't sing? These are super successful artists who have dropped songs and albums enjoyed and sang by millions all over the globe.Dunno if by not being able to sing the OP means "their voices are not refined and melodic like Pavoratti,Celine Dion etc..." but then again how many Nigerian musicians' voices really are??.The bottom line is that the kind of music these guys sing have nothing to do with their voices. The beats and secondarily the lyrics(no matter how shit you think it is) is the reason their songs sell. Pipl just like d beats and enjoy singing these songs. That is all. Olamide too can't "sing" going by wat the OP says but again his lyrics and beats are like hotcake and he is invited to numerous packed-out shows.Do you really think he and others are invited because their voices are special and they can really "sing"?Afro music is a bit different I guess...The beats supersede the voice and pipl want d former more. They sell and make millions because they SING(songsters, musicians).whether they are good singers in your estimation is a different topic altogether
Re: Four Nigerian Singers Who Can't Sing by Nobody: 12:00pm On Apr 13, 2016
Lil Kesh should be NUMBER ONE(numero uno)on that list. He talks to musical beats. e. g Skiborobo Skibooo Keshii! eee baaa!!!! o sheeee baddest.!!!!. My Boss at work can compete favourably with lil kesh when he is angry.
though I like the '' Aunty Janeti'' part of one of his talks shaa!!
Summary. kesh is not a Rapper and not a singer. He is a fast orator

Madam, how many of our present day Artiste can play many musical instruments like Fela. Fela's kind of music is called protestant music. He is in the category of Bob Marley, Peter Tosh, Muthabaruka, Ras kimono, Majek fashek and many reggae artistes. Their kind of music is to talk to the society about what is happening around them, sing against tyrants.
Re: Four Nigerian Singers Who Can't Sing by Nobody: 12:05pm On Apr 13, 2016
Haha but why just four?

Expand this list infinitely grin

75% of Nigerian singers cannot sing live
Which means they can't sing at all. If you can only sing in the MV and studio version with all the auto tuning and editing in the world..... Is that really singing?

Thank God Phyno's a rapper grin

Meanwhile all these people have catchy songs and good beats. But actual lyrical ability, not so much.

A lot of you posters here on Nairaland are quacks! This is the honest truth, can someone define singing? Musicians can be vocalist, lyricists and so on; do you even know the hard work that goes into composing a verse not to talk of a complete song? The musicians you mentioned above may not fit your definition of singers but that's your problem and not theirs. In the States we have musicians like Wiz Khalifa, Macklemore, Iggy and so on, they don't fit the traditional definition of singers but still they remain relevant in the industry because music has evolved and the listeners are driving this evolution, without artiste like the ones you mentioned above giving us a new type of music how will the music industry evolve in Nigeria?
