Simple, means ur shopping demand is neck-breaking; I mean seriously harmful to his pocket. So he prefers to buy what he knows he can afford for you rather than making him go broke by picking different clothes and making him feel embarassed for not being able to afford the ones u really like. U probably have a better job and a bigger car, so he might be intimidated on satisfying you financially. So when he buys it, he'll tell u he got a suprise gift for you. While u're happy that he got u a gift, he's happy that he escaped excessive expenses in d name of shopping.

If you wanna go shopping with him, try give him assurance that u won't demand more than he can afford like ask how much he has; ask humbly oh, no be by muscle so that u will knw ur request limit.
