You have a point. I think they did this intentionally and if the government don't look into this loophole in our economy it will have a devastating effect over time.
Some are of the opinion that PayPal will eventually allow nigerans receive payment , but I doubt if PayPal will allow such knowing fully well the negative effect it will cause them.
@aaronson

The restriction is not limited to Nigeria. Paypal doesn't allow receiving money in many countries, because of so many reasons; including a country without good national ID database. It have nothing to do with fraud, cause the most fraudulent countries online, like USA do receive payments.

With the BVN now implemented, I believe they'll soon allow Nigerians receive money.

I linked my paypal to GTB naira Mastercard, I had gotten a refund from a merchant I paid via Nigeria paypal and the fund went straight to my bank account after 2days of completing the refund, does this mean that I can receive payment with my Nigerian paypal?
You can receive REFUNDS that doesn't mean you can receive payment

You have not been replying my messages or do anything concerning my limited usa PayPal account you created for me less than a month.

I am not happy at all.
There is no way you shouldn't have been replied. It might be you are one of those that are not
ready to proceed with the restoration process or one of those that didn't have International Passport
to be submitted as ID required.

Can I have you full names in here so that I can as well update you openly here.

I hope I don't sound like someone from the past but can someone please tell me how to open a Paypal account. I never really bothered about such things before. I am more interested in the payment and not receiving as I now need to import some products and the merchants in China have requested that I pay via Paypal. Thanks

Paypal has made my business a lot easy. I only make payments and receive my goods. I think only Yahoo boys should bother about receiving funds undecided
That's a parochial way of thinking... Nigerians who offer international services can't integrate PayPal to their site coz of this reason. It's not about paying for other services but also having someone pay for yours.. That's how our economy grows... That's the edge foreign service providers have over us here too. Having more than one option for payment gateway boost business.... Yahoo Yahoo is not the only way to earn FX... We have legal works and hardworking Nigerians making it via offering legal services. The market of the 21st century is now on the Internet.

No, that's payment reversal charged on your card. Those are two different things. You can't receive funds in your Nigerian Paypal account and thereby transfer it to your bank account. If you've seen the USA Paypal, you will know what I'm talking about.... There's an option for bank account, wallet to receive funds, etc. All which are missing in ours.

Lol

I was expecting a response like This. Bro, paypal offer buyer protection service, where they Can rembourse a defrauded buyer and go after the seller themself. Now, imagine the task of going after Yahoo boys in Nigeria in a bid to keep a promise cheesy

You May have your imaginary biz that earn You fx online, but 80% of Nigérians that earn Fx online are scammers and paypal know This.

Have you conducted a research or survey to come to this conclusion? It's mostly in Nigeria people make claims and just fabricate hypothesis. Nigerians working on freelancing websites are many, not to talk of programmers, Web designers, writers, illustrators for comic books graphic designers, etc. So, that 80% is way out of it, and yahoo yahoo now is getting outdated...

Guys I'm having difficulty in exchanging my PayPal funds to Naira.
The introduction of PayPal in Nigeria has lead to low demand of Paypal fund request by Nigerians since they can now easily make payment via their Nigeria PayPal account which is linked to a debit card.
Although, a nigerian paypal account can make payment to merchants, but it cannot send money to any other PayPal account.
Also, it cannot receive payments let alone withdraw to bank/debit card. What this means is that money only goes out of our economy but cannot return through same process. lipsrsealed

Now what's the way forward for online workers and internet marketers who have PayPal funds and want to withdraw/exchange.

Is the introduction of PayPal in Nigerian a Blessing, Curse or not Economically friendly?

I need your opinion/assistance.
You are right, with the introduction of BVN Paypal has no excuse again
sure they will continue to exploit Nigerians until the CBN, External Affairs Ministry and Banks rise to the occasion.
With BVN the issue of proper identification is resolved.
CBN should please sort this out, Nigerians online business men are at disadvantage and we are been cheated like fatherless children.

Its this our useless CBN causing all these issues naaaa. PayPal had submitted an application to CBN in that regards but its still being processed just like many others submitted. I can imagine CBN requesting all sort of useless documents grin - CV of directors, TIN, IT Policy, Audited Account, 3 years Tax Clearance Certificate etc from PayPal and PayPal ofricials will be like wtf tongue
u think other central banks will not request for this documents also?

[quote author=aaronson post=24521344]They knew what they was doing when they finally allowed paypal in nigeria, they knew nigerians are scamgerians,so it took em time to think and re-think before they could let paypal thrive here with so much restrictions and in their favour...do we use paypal? Yes!! Can a nigerian receive fund through paypal? No!,Only if our leaders could think like these people until then its still gonna be captite]

I wrote paypal to make enquiries some time ago, Pay pal called me info tell me its our CBN that has not authorized them to receive payments for her clients. The conversation was long, the Pay pal rep promised to return a call upon CBN approval that they (Pay pal) should receive payments for her clients. So I think Its our policies. And not theirs.

They will but Naija own too much! Even after submitting same it takes forever for them to vet and do the needful. Business are suffering because of all these delays.

In fact western union should put in a whole lot more rules for sending money to Nigeria. For example the chance for $ Senders to Nigeria to sue when they are scammed and scammers be tracked through bvn.

The amount recovered can be cover the detective job and the rest back to sender.

What I meant is deep....perhaps I rather say it has metamorphosized into fetishism...unlike the early days it began...it is more of "sorcery" than mental fraud and smartness.

Now you are talking bro. It's more of blood money now than the evil genius money it's used to be.
Re: Paypal In Nigeria: A Blessing Or Curse To Internet Marketers by DedeNkem:
They did it because of fraud. They don't want Nigerians using it to collect fraudulent money. That's why you can only send to a foriegn Paypal owner like me.

I can create one for anyone who can pay me a reasonable amount of money. I'll create the verified Paypal account with your name and the debit card will also bear your name.

Features;
- you can send money to anyone who has paypal.
- you can receive money in your paypal from any paypal acount holder.
- you can recieve money from any credit or debit card (Visa, Mastercard, etc) holder.
- you can attach any Western bank account (if you hace on) to it, to withdraw money to the bank account. (I can't provide a bank account).
- a debit card that can be reload to fund your Paypal account. I will do the reloading here.
- and more.
