in 2010 when I was writing my entrance exam for unilag masters program (bus admin), I found out dat close to half of us writing d exam were those whose bsc were gotten from unilag. Fast forward to admission list only a few of them actually made it. And my name was third on d merit list.

And yes.....I did my bsc in unimaid!

No you are the one to learn how to read. The university graduated 172 first class students out of a total of over 37000 students making it an average of about 1 first class per 200 students. Tell me, is that number too much or is it that hard to find 1 unique students in every 200?

To experience such hell and not only pull through uncremated, but in flying colours is highly praiseworthy.

"Real Southern standard first class"? What does that even mean?!

I'm not in the habit of talking nasty of a people, but that really got to me.

Now, I happen to serve in Unizik, Awka. I've been to most higher institutions in the south east and some parts of the SS, I've seen things, quite bad things, but one university stands out, maybe because I happen to be there longer: UNIZIK.

In that school, exam malpractice is almost a norm. Writing exams by proxy, even worse. Especially in faculties like management sciences.

I was shocked last Tuesday when I went to Unizik business school. On my way back downstairs, hall 13, faculty of mgt of course, I saw students, should be 400L cos its so written boldly door top, writing exams but it was something like I've seen before, students were discussing in exam hall as though it were a market square, invigilator, there present. That same day, the faculty of law recorded many casualties as well.

You see final year students with high CGPAs, yet they haven't written more than 4 exams themselves. Irregularities abound. Money can get you almost anything in that school, the women, even less money!

Or is it Anambra state uni where sorting is the only way up?

Fed poly Oko is much in the same brackets.

Abia State uni? Some professors there are not even bachelorly bright!

This place has shown me really, that the clichéd adage "an empty barrel makes the loudest noise" holds true.

I've seen the same patterns in most schools around. Students with good grades who barely know a thing!
How could they when the whole process from the lowest rungs to the zenith are rigged and fraudulent.

Like I said, money gets you anything here, just not much quality!

Up North, at least in most unis I've been to, and especially the one I graduated from, little as a writing on your palm could get you expelled; only pray you don't get caught!

What again did you say the southern standard is?

PS: this is not an attack on Anambra/se institutions, far from it, I'm just driving home a point, only that I'm using facts, drawing from the things that I've seen.
Jaundiced view from a bigot who thinks writing fancy words will make him appear smart and intelligent. How did you come up with such nonsense conclusions about schools in the Southeast? How did you know that students write exams in unizik using mercenaries? Even if they did and you were able to find out, what stopped you from reporting them to the invigilator? So you were aiding and abetting exam malpractice? Again you foolishly stated that "sorting" is a norm in Anambra state university, and I ask how did you come about this? Are you a student there? Do you run a " "sorting" syndicate? I really want to know how you were able to know all these about Southeast universities. However, if you cannot prove this, then I will take you as another tribal idiiot on the loose!

A univeRsity graduating 172 out of over 37,000 graduates in five years means that she graduate an average of 35 which too smallaas compared to most schools in the south that over 100 graduates yearly.

it pains me when people talk out of sheer hatred and ignorance. do you mean that a school with 8 of her alumni currently serving as vice chancellors is substandard? I can tell you with full confidence that these first class merit it, infact ntayi bandawa graduated from unimaid with 3.93, i repeat 3.93 but went to law school and bagged a firstclass, are you still doubting there products? ask unilorin students how unimaid law students distinguished themselves during a program held there. I'm a yoruba boy with this orientation that schooling in north is easy but believe me I was disappointed cos it wasn't easy at all but I'm happy cos am a student of unimaid and I'm made and i can compete with any graduate from any southern university infact I have a friend in uniben who's a 4 pointer that will share questions with me on whatsapp and I'll do it happily and easily.. Therefore, please get your facts right before casting aspersion and for your info unimaid is ranked number 9 by NUC so deal with it..

It's clear how ignorance now pervades the threads and comments of Nairaland.

The very bane of our educational system is reflected here in the level of reasoning behind lots of comments.

I can boldly defend it anywhere that UNIMAID is still one of the few universities in this country where sincerity and honesty and reflected by their lecturers and management. The standard is still high and there's little or no compromise to the laid-down prerequisites for admissions, examinations and scoring.

I have met several of their alumni- Pharmacists, Educationists, Lawyers, Administrators, Engineers etc, most of whom are southerners and I always salute their academic soundness.

I've not been to FUTO before, not even once.

In school, regurgitating stuffs in exams is enough to pass. You need not be an orator.

In the same vein, I've seen countless Igbo graduates who can't speak or write as well. Heck, I met a doctor at Unizik who doesn't even know what cash crop means!
