yes you can re-apply depending on the company's recruitment policy.

However, its shameful.

meanwhile, i just retrenched my company and paid them off month in lieu.

That's the way forward.

Retrenchment is not sack.

If you are Retrenched by Shell, due to fall in oil price.You can be recalled if conditions improve.

There is noting wrong going back if you dont have better alternative.

if 'one' (assumably u) gets retrenched based on economic meltdown nd not on malpractice grounds, why wouldn't he re-apply?

How long ago were you retrenched? If you were retrenched based on the harsh economic condition of the country, they would have called you back immediately things started looking up for them, unless your retrenchment was years ago and they've forgotten about you, in which case, you ought to have moved on.

I won't be surprised if you re-apply and they don't consider your application. I suggest yo move on and look elsewhere, unless you are so desperate. As for me, NEVER.
