How Lucrative Is Pharmacy As A Career? by croSStodds(m): 11:07pm On Apr 28, 2016
I'll like to be enlightened in relation to the prospects of pharmacy, preferably from grads who have experienced the rigors and stress of labour market.
Also, precisely what aspect of pharmacy is the most lucrative?cos to the best of my knowledge, I believe we have community, industrial, academic and clinical aspects of pharmacy as a whole.
Thanks in anticipation.

The main cash is in the industrial aspect. But man, the paper work, licensing nd initial capital outlay could be a huge hindrance. Most are just contract distributors, dispensers nd retailers. Its one of the most profitable in advanced countries.

Very profitable profession. You can hardly find a jobless pharmacist unless he or she is physically incapacitated and unable to work.
There are a lot of job opportunities for a pharmacist.

@op, don't go into a profession because of its lucrativeness rather consider the love you have for the profession lest you enter into disappointment mode when money fails to spin.

Gone are the days people read a course because of passion, now it is how lucrative!!! Current economic situation... ###TakemeBack
I don't blame anyone really, man must chop but one advice I'd rather do something that gives me satisfaction. Pharmacy and Medicine are great life science courses, there is job security and the pay is reasonable, plus the fact that you can work in any part of the world, just a couple of exams and you are good to go.

###Takemeback... take me back to when coke and fanta was 10naira, Life was much more simpler then.

Its very lucrative if you can open a chemist in Nigeria in an area were people don't go to hospital, or u can also open a big pharmacy....i believe if you open any one of these two coupled with your degree, you go make amgrin.

To some it's small, but to me it's huge. my elder sis is currently earning #320 000(monthly) with an official car +driver. started working there 2 months ago. and they(others who passed the interview) went on two weeks training, all sponsored by the company.

it's a really lucrative business/career. I've not seen any pharmacist earning less than 120k.

Well, if you are the fast type, you can also act as the "doctor", diagnose the condition and then sell them the drugs they need all from the stool of your pharmacy shop! Hence a lucrative choice cool

Its very lucrative only if u are smart to open your own pharmacy/chemist shop and also render services like Day and C.....You will smile home with awesome fortune

The most lucrative part would be industrial and community pharmacy. Although in Nigeria industrial pharmacy is mainly restricted into drug packaging and distribution, but still the pay is very attractive.
All in all pharmacy is a very lucrative and interesting career, having one of (if not) the best employment opportunities in the health sector.

A pharmacy intern earns nothing less than a 100k not to talk about a fully certified pharmacist.
P.S. A pharmacy technician is also a graduate and is very different from a pharmacist.

The person is most likely doing a part time job (locum) and if you check well, he doesn't spend the entire day in that place.
Pharmacists work in different places within a day and they spend specified number of hours in each place. Someone can work in the hospital during the day and work in a community pharmacy in the evening.
So the lady above is right. You can hardly keep a pharmacist in your pharmacy shop for the whole day and pay him only 50k. He will just spend a few weeks there and walk away.
