what's the difference between a pharmacist and a phamacologist?.....which earns more?
A pharmacologist is someone who studied pharmacology and pharmacology is a branch of pharmacy. A pharmacologist is not regarded as a pharmacist because he only studied a part of pharmacy.
In my opinion a pharmacist earns more. I don't even know where pharmacologists work apart from the field of lab research.

Don't be ignorant. As a pharmacologist reads only a part of pharmacy (Pharmacology) So does a pharmacy technician reads only pharmaceutics and pharmaceutical technology to become a pharmacy technician

Very lucrative. They earn more than doctors during their internship. Pharmaceutical companies hire them. They also work in the hospitals though we DON'T need them. And they can open chemist shop

As a pharmacists, you have options of field to practice.
Hospital as a clinical pharmacist
Community pharmacy also as a clinical pharmacist
Industrial pharmacy as regulatory pharmacist (responsible for registration and liaising with regulatory bodies), production pharmacist ( manufacture of drugs) or
sales and marketing responsible for selling, distribution and brand building.
There is also research and academics.
I am in sales and marketing, and I think it is the most lucrative and also most challenging.
NGO is also very lucrative for pharmacists, but not so easy to get like the others.

This thread reminds me of some years back.

I was just about to graduate from secondary school as a science student but I wasn't forthcoming about what I wanted to do with my life. So I gave my parents the hard work of choosing for me. I nor too get ambition as science wasn't my best love. How I ended up as a science student is even another story on its own. I had to be moved to science class because I couldn't tell them what I wanted to do with myself initially. It was obvious I wasn't going to read engineering or medicine with my unserious attitude to my academics. Eventually, my parents (daddy especially) dropped a line similar to this - "pharmacy is very lucrative". Na so I begin try o. 4 UME (JAMB) attempts (199, 220, 211 and finally 248) and still ended up reading something else. The only time I was so close to it with 248, they had to pass over me to pick candidates with lower scores because they were from EDS (Educationally Disadvantaged States). Do they still have that thing self?

During my university days, I took some biochemistry courses with pharmacy students and I soooooo thank God I didn't study Pharmacy. Lucrative or not, the chemistry (organic biochemistry or something) was not there at all. Looking back, I also think that I may not be where I am today if I had studied Pharmacy.

OP, I apologize for the digression above but do these things
1. talk to a pharmacist. If you want something else, try and talk to someone already in the field. It helps.
2. Don't just chose a career because you think it is lucrative. You don't know tomorrow.
3. whatever course you end up reading, make sure you are educated enough to stand on your own feet and hold your space wherever you find yourself after graduation. There are top flight bankers that read Yoruba Education and got to the top without immorality or ungodliness.

Other aspects like drug research, design and manufacture is just 'packaging'? What is pharmacology without the drug (which is manufactured)?

They don't need someone who would question their prescription even if there are errors in it.
That is what he means by that.

That guy has incomplete information on the subject matter.

In the hospital setting, doctors earn more but a pharmacist in community practice will make more money because there is money in drug business.

Pharmacy my dear Pharmacy!!!
Every parent wants his child to read pharmacy nowadays cos it's lucrative, the day of our induction igbo Men came in to look for female pharmacist to get married to so they can use their license to import and export drugs.it wasn't a bed of roses though,i remember the tension of pre-qualifiying exams and professionals, the cramming of structures, the reading of vague things which were incoherent cos we couldn't see most of them.
Thank God dose days are all over.i started working before I was inducted into the Pharmacist council of Nigeria. Without a certificate and a license, and I was earning more than most bankers.i went ahead to do my internship at Federal Neuropsychiatric hospital lagos, was also working in a community Pharmacy in the evening.anyone who knows Federal Neuropsychiatric hospital Lagos knows it's the Highest Paying for Pharmacy interns throughout the country.as an intern Pharmacist( A Pupil Pharmacist) I was earning more dan 200k in a month from my 2 jobs.after my one year internship I proceeded to do my Nysc. I was posted to Lagos "don't ask me how I got lagos"!!i served in an health centre in eti osa locaal government in the morning and in the evening I go to my community Pharmacy I was close to 200k with all my allowances from FG which is the 19,800 local government which pays 30k and my dear community Pharmacy that paid me the largest chunk of my salary I won't tell u how much I earned from my Pharmacy but all my allowance for the month was close to 200k. I bought my first car during my internship and also rented an apartment on my own with my money.with no assistance from my parents. Now am done with service I got another Job in one of the Chain Pharmacies in Nigeria.ever since I graduated I've been smiling to the bank. Alert has not stopped entering my account.
My license was paid for and put in use by my company apart from my monthly salary.
And the opportunities are enormous u can grow, have ur Pharmacy, decide to import drugs, go into politics.being a Pharmacist makes u street wise.cos uve been tutored informally under so many aspects
Business administration, marketyn. In Abroad Pharmacist are one of the highest Paid professionals u cud switch over and go practice there. Just a few exams to convert you and enable u practice dere

I gave this little epistle for young ones who are confused of a career choice.Pharmacy is one u won't regret. It's a stepping stone to greater achievements.so if u feel u have what it takes give it a shot and follow ur dream.i feel fulfilled adding value to the life's of my patients and for them cuming back to thank me that the drug I gave them worked.makes me feel I ddnt make a mistake reading Pharmacy.

Mind you the profession still has some short comings as no profession is 100 percent without hazzles.but the future is bright for young Pharmacist.
I Rep Pharmacy class of 2012.Madonna University Elele Rivers state#
As Men of Honour we join hands. it's so good to see this post of my profession and contribute.

Most likely unlicensed or "Locum"(part-time). Any pharmacist earning that in Nigeria has a problem. And I KNOW what I'm talking about.
I hope it's not NYSC pharmacist. You know how people treat corp members
