Basic education i.e primary school up to junior secondary school is free by law(at least in govt schools). Why should Ekiti state govt ask school children to pay tax (cleverly tagged levy)?

When those of us who are on ground in Ekiti try to tell you all what is the reality, the blind PDP apologists and IPOB yoots will always chant "Fayose My ROle Model"

We told you that he is collecting lots of frivolous levies and taxes, una no believe us.

Ask the Tipper drivers and lumber men. Ask private schools, and even Banks who are now being arm-stringed to fund some projects which the Thug will still sell to the world as his project.

We are hatching our own plans for him. let him continue

the comments I have read so far on the subject matter really shows that majority of the people commenting here are not living in ekiti and if some do, they seems to forget we are in Nigeria. anyway my comments will not be sentimental becos as a resident and a native of ekiti and also a Catholic church member, I should be able to tell u d truth in this forum. firstly we all know how important it is for all state governor to generate More revenue due to Nigeria economy, secondly do you all know how much my church charges student and pupils for school fees? if no then i can tell you that this church advocating for free education charges student school fees the most as far as ekiti is concerned. moreover, the development levy was unanimously agreed upon by all education stakeholders in ekiti, both from public and private sectors.. catholic is not the only church that has mission school here, deeper life, celestial, anglican, methodist churches also are here. the truth u people dont know is that. catholic bishop of ekiti is a good friend to the defeated former governor kayode fayemi and fayemi is also a catholic. i have listened to the bishop's sermon very well and i know he is a good sympathizer for fayemi so fayose remains his political and religious enemy. im not apc or pdp watever but a typical ekiti man and a catholic faithful.

Sir, you're not saying the truth and also very hypocritical. While I cannot say if the Catholic schools charge higher, the issue here is about "whether school children should pay taxes despite the provisions of the law that states otherwise.
Catholic Church is not the only church that own schools but is it an offense if it's the only one that goes to court as it feels the fundamental rights of it's school children are infringed upon?

I am also Ekitian, half - resident and a Catholic but I care less who the bishop prefers between Fayemi and Fayose. What should bother us is the legality and reasonability of imposing taxes on school children in the name of generating revenue.

I was in Iye-Ekiti last week when the task force came to shut down a private school with a full complement of the police, civil defense corps and their loud sirens.

They sent children out of school for not paying taxes....... SAD

to my understanding bro there is no basis for argument, I'm not saying he should tax school children at all but the levy was agreed upon at education summit he organized few months after his inauguration. the private schools had been collecting that dev levy since time immemorial. so its not new and the government ask them to start remitting the money so why the noise. I am telling you that the bishop is a confirmed opposition to fayose government you are telling me he is fighting for right. I stay here in ekiti and I'm attending the Church so I know what I'm saying. mind u, I'm not a supporter of anybody so relax ur mind.

My dear its not for just catholic students alone.... Its for every pupil in the state irrespective of the school....
It is paid by the parents or guides of the students.. The aint tasking the school but the students/pupils... Don't be missled... Shebi the catholic priests would drive students home if the don't pay school fees soo why the noise from them...

A lot of people dont understand what they are saying.Let me tell u the hard facts
1.No one agreed in any meeting that levy should be imposed.Except you dont know how Oshoko operates. He called a meeting...hand picked those who will talk and ratify his decision.
2.All other schools have also gone to court through NAPPS...the umbrella association of all private schools...but their lawyer was forced to withdraw and run for his life after he his life was threatened
3.As I am writing this...all parents of private schools pupil are openly cursing Fayose...who is owing 4 month salaries yet forcing the children of those people to pay illegal tax.If you want to know the truth go to the streets of Ado Ekiti or any other town and interview them at random...especially the okada people who are supposed to be Fayose supporters
4.Fayose went to the extreme of closing schools even on weekends...when it cannot be verified whether they have paid or not!
