A very sad incident that probavly could have been averted.
It could be the case of fake cylinder. Or the incident could be due to overfiling of the cylinder.

Some refillers fill 6kg in 5kg designated cylinders. Typically, cylinders have space for vapor. This space for vapor is what will be taken up by liquified gas when the cylinder is overfilled. Lpg expands with increase in temperature.

When (gas) flows into the cylinder, the liquified gas settles at the lower section of the cylinder while vapor occupies the space above the liquified gas.

When temperature increases, the vapor pressure increases. If the cylinder is of inferior quality, it will explode in no time with sustained increase in temperature.

Indoor users should try to use their gas cylinders in ventilated spaces.
Avoid hot and closed cellers as much as possible.

Do not allow your cylinders to be filled beyond the stipulated capacity.

Buy only certified cylinders.

This is sad, I can imagine the pain this loss is causing her family and friends.
Something obviously went wrong here.
Please learn the safety precautions needed for using cooking gas even at home. Nowadays people are very uneducated about appliances equipment and materials they use day to day.

*Always refill your gas at a certified safe plant to ensure the content is right and your valves are checked every-time.
*Do not ignore any unusual operation of the cooking system, if in doubt turn off the flame and have it checked.
*As much as possible do your cooking in a well ventilated space and possibly install your cylinders outdoors.
*In the case of a camp type cooking unit, ensure that the burner is always correctly fitted to the cylinder and no there are no leaks. Take every dent or physical damage to the unit due to a fall or due to packing or transfer seriously.
*If you fail to light your gas unit the first time, turn off the gas and wait a few minutes for the gas concentration to clear in the surrounding air before you attempt to light the burner.
*Always hold a safety match or lighter flame ready at the burner before you turn on the gas. Never turn on the gas before you set to ignite the flame.
*Always have a remedial plan in case your cooking flame goes out of control. Like your oil begins to burn or your flame goes out of control. Know exactly how to quickly turn off your gas regulator or remove the cylinder which is the gas supply.
*Gas cylinders and regulators are built with a certain high level of safety in them, avoid the use of cheap gas stoves or units.

Out of ignorance, each time I want to refill my gas I'm always insisting the man fills 5.5kg in my 5kg cylinder

Gas explosion in school? Some one should be in prison Already for this incident. The school should ve made sure its safe for their students. Then again this is nigera were people Pray and wait for God to come and test the hostels health and safety level or believes it will never happen to them because the pastor said it is not their portion.
Did some one not smell the gas leak? Next day you will see student in the same hostel (hopping and praying the same thing won't happen to them) After this incident the whole school should be shut until its safe.

Please what kind of facilities are provided in schools if I may ask? I do not know the girl, but this is an unfortunate loss of life.

The best solution to avoiding an accident is Safety, not to stay at home. Everyone has a class anyway. Some people are so classy they cannot school in Nigeria.

it didnt say school provided the cylinder, i assumed, it also didn't say who provided the cylinder or that the girl felt too big to use school facilities. i think its unfair to conclude without proof that she felt too big
