Senate Backs Subsidy Removal by Nobody: 1:04pm On May 17, 2016
After over one hour closed door session, Senate, on Tuesday, decided to back Federal government's decision to hike fuel price by removing fuel subsidy.

The House of Representatives on Monday had urged the leadership of the Nigeria Labour Congress [NLC] to suspend the union’s planned strike to protest.

The protest is targeted at the removal of subsidy on petrol by the Federal Government.

This was, however, after there was confusion in the House for about 20 minutes.

Some Peoples Democratic Party [PDP] lawmakers attempted to stop the appearance of the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Dr. Ibe Kachikwu.

However, the Senate implored the Federal government to immediately embark on implementing palliative session that will reduce problem of Nigerians

The Deputy Senate President Ike Ekweremadu, who presided over the plenary, spoke at the end of the session.

He sympathized with Nigerians on the level of hardship in the country.

He said they would engage the Federal government to find sustainable ways to improve on the welfare of the citizens.

He also said they have resolved to engage the Labour leaders in order to resolve the issue.

they keep saying removal of subsidy but the vice president says there is no such thing but the hike in PMS is because there is no enough fund in the circulation at the moment.

What is the real situation?

Yes. The Federal Government should find a way to sustain / better the lives of people.

We all know that Buhari alone cant fix this country overnight, the man (Buhari) is trying is best, but Nigerians needs to be sustained.

And the stupid NLC and TUC should call off the already planned strike that yield nothing but more pain to Nigeria's Economy.

Instead of them to be protesting for the increment of minimum wage from N18K to N90k, they are beating around the bush, they know what should be done, but what they will steal and cheap bribes wont let them see it.

God will help us.

The real problem is unavailability of forex to import PMS, what the govt should do is devalue the naira, and make forex available until the modular refineries and dangote refinery is completed, then we can stop importing fuel.

If federal Govt can source dollars for marketers at 190 - 195 official rate, with the current price of crude oil. there might not be a need to pay any subsidy going by the landing cost calculation.

However, the sourcing of FX is not realistic and would have a very negative impact on the economy but if they allow Oil Marketers to go and source for FX at the black market (@295 +) , the landing cost of fuel will be close to 145 and that means for every litre of fuel you and I use, FG would be paying about 60naira.

With the level of corruption and Clearance letter that can be got easily without shipping any fuel, The amount to be paid would be crazy.

The subsidy should be removed once and for all.
