This is one of the reasons why the Nigerian Army won't be able to defeat the Niger Delta militants. The Soldiers simply cannot swim. Puncture a boat in deep waters and the Nigerian Soldiers will most like all drown. Most of the militants have been swimming since they were kids and can probably eve recue their drowning comrades

Nigerian military troops ar ill-trained, poorly-equippd nd unprepared for wars/combat situatns. I doubt if they can even stand dia ground in any real military confrontatn wit neigborin African countries! D Nigerian Armed Forces ova d yrs hav bin livin in "fools paradise" until d issues of Boko Haram nd Niger-Delta militancy exposed dia weaknesses nd inadequacies! Military trainings suppose to includ "ability to swim nd survive in rugged terrains". I don't think there is any American troop/soldier dat doesn't knw how to swim!

The army is not telling us the truth. Can soldiers be on water patrol without life jacket? Those militants are fearless and are better in water combat than the army. When they jam army,they force them to remove their life jacket ,enter water and drown.

How can you be a soldier and not know how to swim? Every soldier needs to have extensive knowledge of essential life skills such as swimming, orientation etc. They shouldn't even be deployed until they know how to do all of these things.

during training activities/ recruitment it sud compass all areas of exercise.. it's so pity dat our Navy officers can't swim same goes 4 our army police own na no go area... so if dis is war dat will happen on sea dis is how we will b losing our solders.. I tink it's time we go back to d drawing board. a military personnel sud b capable in all area of defence. Rip to d dead.

How do you deploy someone with a metal bullet proof vest and expect him to stay afloat in water? Even if he is the best swimmer in the world, he will sink.

The best bet is to deploy only military standard boats to these areas and where it isn't possible, one has to give way... bullet proof vest or life jacket.
