Thanks alot. So in essence, when am ready to pay the tuition or deposit of the tuition, i will go to the bank and request for a Form A, then they will make they payment to the school with their charges too. Then at that point i can print out statement of account showing balance of the remaining tuition and maintenance fee, right? I guess am correct. Then with respect to accomodation, do i have to pay that before applying for visa? And must it be accomodation in the school? if its outside, how can someone pay for accomodation here in Nigeria? Thanks as i expect your response.

I think you tried to send me an email, i will answer your question here openly so that others may also benefit from the answer too.

(1) Just go to the bank and tell them you are interested in using Form A to pay for your foreign school fees. They will tell you what you need to do.

(2) I would not advise you to use the school accommodation because it is always too expensive when compared to getting accommodation outside the school.

(3) After paying your school fees, the school will likely ask for your statement of account showing that your maintenance fees has been in the account for 28days.

(4) If you did not pay all of your school fees, the money you will put in your account will be your maintenance fees + the balance of your school fees for 28 days (the school will likely request for the print out of the statement before issuing you the CAS)

Please note that maintenance fees for studying in London differs from that of other cities in Uk

(5) As for accommodation, i will suggest that after collecting your visa, you travel to Uk and spend a night in a hotel and then search for accommodation outside school. This will be cheaper for you. You can also check a site called Gumtree for some accommodation in Uk (you can make your search specific by typing the city you will be schooling) while still in Nigeria.

Please do not pay for any accommodation until you get to UK and see the room physically.

(6) Please if you have enough money, i mean your parents are very rich, then you can use school accommodation and disregard point number 5 above.

Please also note

After you have collected your CAS letter and you have selected the day you will be going for your interview, you will likely be asked where would you be staying in the UK (they always ask this question often). If you did not pay for school accommodation, you may have a challenge answering this question if you are not well prepared for the answer.

I'll advise that you collect your CAS and then select the day for interview and before the day you go for the interview, come here and ask for likely questions you will be asked during the interview and i am sure people on this forum will be glad to provide you with answers or guide you on the best ways to answer some questions.

If you have any more questions, please do not hesitate to ask here openly

Good job all the gurus.

Please need some basic information regarding working and also studying in UK. I already had my MSc in OAU and with a NEBOSH certificate in occupational health and safety which is accredited in UK.

Am planning to enrol in one of the university in UK for my PhD and currently searching via ukpass.com.

Please what chances do I have regarding studying and also working with my certificate? Also do I need any form of Test of English before I can apply since I had all my academics both BSc and MSc in English

thanks

You will be able to study and work but you are likely to work within the school.e.g summer exam invigilation, project monitor, summer admission processing etc.

The decision to write and English language test or not will be made by the university after going through your admission application

The NHS surcharge will be automatically generated once you input the duration of your program ........ although it is normally 150pounds per year.

During your application, you will know how much you will pay.

I just thought to say this. With the present exchange rate i think it is now cheaper to get a school owned accomodation, i did the calculation and trust me it is cheaper now. as of today, echange rate in most banks is between 453-527naira to a pound. and with school accomodation you can pay at around 290 using form A. I think the gap in the exchange rate now makes school accomodation a better choice. Asides from the fact that you would be tied to a 40-50weeks contract, honestly i see no reason why anyone won't prefer school accomdation. ofcourse unless you intend to pay your rent from money gotten from part-time jobs. Just my 2 cents. I don't mean to say you are wrong bro, i only thought to share my observation

Honestly, part of the reasons why i like answering questions openly is cos it gives room for further opinions, if there is any mistake, it can be corrected and i can also gain more knowledge. No one knows it all.

You have made very valid points.

I think it will be cheaper because they can pay school accommodation with Form A but the major issue is the contract they have to sign with the school and also how many people easily have all of the money to pay at once with the school fees?

But like you said, if anyone has the money, that option will be the best for now with the forex wahala. Thanks for pointing out.

Your blood dey hot o grin grin grin

When you get your visa (i did not say if cos i know you will surely get it by God's grace) and you arrive UK, you will normally have 20hrs to work (would be written on your visa). You can get jobs by applying to agencies. you can do security jobs, care jobs, cleaning jobs, factory work, till worker, kitchen porter etc

You will be able to work unlimited during school term breaks. But please, take money along with you as a student cos the money you will get from those jobs may only cover your rent (depending on the city you would be schooling).

during the school term breaks, you will get more money and also when you finish your course, you will be able to work well due to the additional months that will be on your visa before going back to naija(normally 4 months)

I am actually staying in a private accomodation myself, but i happen to have info about the pros and cons of school accomodation.

Firstly about the contract, most axhools have you on a 40 or 50months lease, which doesnt mean you have to pay at once, you can decide to pay montly, or every three months, or pay twice, or in full, their terms are often always flexible. bt trust me they take contracts serious here, once you sign the contract. Its gonna take alot of processing for if you ever want to leave the school accomodation before the completion of the contract term.

Most uni accomodation beds are usually single beds, and for those that will probably be having their girlfriends over and things like that, i think that's the first thing most people tend to dislike about school accomodation.

Brother, trust me, even if you intend to get a job, you most likely would wanna strike off the first semester and dedicate it more to school work fully, especially if you are swtiching fields. jobs are available on job search websites (s1jobs, indeed.com, even gumtree). the list is endless. but dont get me wrong the jobs dont come easily. often times d lot of us get alot of unsuccessful applications, but with persistence you'll eventually find one. you should focus more on things like accomodation, interview and application, trust me you'll get all you need to know about jobs when you get here without needing to ask

When asked you'ld simply tell them you intend to arrange for a b&b(breakfast and bed), for a few days while you find a condusive accomodation. please do not pay from Nigeria. lot of houses are not exactly as they appear online. some might be dirty, some might be old, lotta things. those pictures are often taken when the house was new

Best bet, keep two Accounts, Gtb i'ld say is reliable, bt stanbic nd standard chartered have relatively cheaper exchange rates. i think for stanbic you can still get a pound around 430naira, while gtb has bout 454 or thereabouts. bt then if u can, moneygram save you some more cash.

Hello house,
Great job you guys are doing here.
Please, how long do I need to wait after submitting form A for the fee to be actually paid to the school?
Also, how do I go about paying 3000 pounds for my tier 4 visa + IHS(4-year course) for myself and my two dependents considering the limit on cards and online payment?
Waiting for responses.
Cheers.
