Q1 Put your university name there.

Q2 You are free to answer yes and put your brothers name there... Its a matter of choice and should not have any effect on your application. (though most people on here prefer to answer no cos answering yes might pose more question(s) from the VO)

If you answer no and it is uncovered that you have a brother, it can lead to a swift refusal and a reputation for being a liar. The most accurate answer for the situation you described is "yes." This should be pretty clear to you.

No, if they stamped cancelled on the visa POE will assume it is cancelled and there is a problem in the system. Best to contact the embassy to see if there was an error before attempting to travel on the visa so you don't have any unfortunate encounters with immigration. If you are trying to enter the US and don't have the correct visa class, they can turn you around at the border and give you a 5-year ban. Not worth the risk.

Rhetoric is very important. However, it's not only in America. It's everywhere. Smart countries and individuals know the importance of paying attention to the rhetoric that defines them. Everything is rhetorical. Powerful countries, corporations and individuals invest massively in rhetorical activities -- verbal or non-verbal: visual, written, etc. -- that define them.

But, of course, we still have a long way to go in Nigeria. For instance, many of our leaders just(!) talk. A recent example? How President Buhari engaged the "fantastically corrupt" labeling. His engagement proved that he doesn't understand the ethos that informs national identity (re)construction. I wish he knew he lacks a working media/communication team.

More than we want to accept, rhetoric plays crucial roles in defining the human space. An important trait which unifies many of the makers/shapers of human civilization is that they are/were great rhetors. Individuals and countries.

I would also caution that the SOP, like the visa interview, is about being genuine in your purpose. It comes across as very artificial if you say things that you believe 'sound nice' but ring hollow to the reader. This is really the only opportunity a school has to 'interview' a prospective student who lives halfway across the world, and the reviewers often lack context of the quality of particular schools around the world, so the SOP is where you truly display your qualifications.

That being said, I think there is something else to learn here - the quality of education varies not only across the various countries of the world, but also within those countries. If you are applying to a poorly ranked school in the U.S., or one that does not have a strong academic reputation, the VOs will be curious. Just continuing to tell us that it is a "top-ranked school in the northeastern part of this state" isn't going to cut it. Be genuine in explaining how you discovered the school and why you ultimately selected it over all of your other options.

Congrats, sir. I'm not in East Lansing, but I'm kind of familiar with MI. MSU is a great school. East Lansing is a beautiful college town. Could get cold a bit during winter, but not like the cold will be unprecedented. You will be fine.

Flights fares are unpredictable. Just have enough to get you to where you are going. God will provide.

Book your flight to O'Hare in Chicago and connect to East Lansing.

Also, consider boarding the train from Union Station in Chicago to East Lansing, Michigan; or using Megabus. If you want to use bus, I like to think there is a departure point somewhere around O'Hare. You should look up more info on the Internet.

Route your itinerary to Chicago. It would be your most convenient, and probably cost-effective, route. Good luck as you are about starting the journey, God bless.

I have been granted an F-1 visa and was told to pick up my visa on Thursday this week, which happens to be the start date on my I-20. Is it possible to pick it up sooner? I called the attention of my interviewer to the date, but she said that I would have to talk to my school. I talked to my international counselor at the school, but she says that she cannot defer the start date on my I-20. I tried to get in touch with someone who can help, but I only got an email address, which I posted to, but there is no reply yet. Is there anything else I can do? Your assistance is deeply appreciated. Thank you.
