Before the resurrection of the physical bodies the spirit/soul of man lives on either in heaven or hell.

"All go unto one place; all are of the dust, and all turn to dust again" (Ecclesiastes 3:20).

This statement refers to the universal curse God pronounced on man and all his creatures because of disobedience. Both men and animals where made out of the basic elements of the earth and their physical bodies is said to return to the earth at death.

"Who knows the spirit of man that goes upward, and the spirit of the beast that goes downward to the earth?" (Ecclesiastes 3:21).

Spirit is the same word for breath. The human spirit is that aspect where man communicates with God's Spirit and this is what returns to God at death. Animals do not have this aspect.

It is plainly recorded here that Adam's body was formed out of the "elements of the earth" same as animals'.

What man has in common with animals is breath and soul but the difference is that Adam's breath (spirit) and soul were imparted directly by God while that of animals' were indirect.

"....and man became a living soul" (Genesis 2:7c).

This is the result of direct impartation of man's spirit and soul. We see here that Adam was not only created in God's spiritual image but he was also made in God's physical image. Adam's body was specifically planned to be most suited for the divine fellowship and that God Himself would one day assume as He eventually did in our Lord Jesus Christ (1 Peter 1:20).



You are the one denying God's word. You are unable to provide the evidence that God's Word is a lie. When you don't believe the truth of God's Word you are then open into believing a lie from the pit of hell. If God says it in His Word and I believe it, that settles it for me.

We Are His Image

Man's body is made of the same "earth" material (Genesis 2:7) as the animals (v. 19) and as the earth itself (Genesis 1:10). Furthermore, he shares the created "soul" (Hebrew nephesh) and "spirit" (Hebrew ruach, same as “breath”) with the animals (compare 1:21; 7:15, where nephesh and ruach respectively are used of the animals). However, he shares the created "image of God" (1:27) only with God Himself.

In some mysterious way, Christ Himself is, in His eternal and glorified human body, the "image of the invisible God" (Colossians 1:15), and God amazingly has even predestinated us "to be conformed to the image of his Son" (Romans 8:29), and "we shall be like him" when we finally "see him as he is" (1 John 3:2).
