Why was emphasis made on teaching alone in the first place? I think that was the reason many people were reluctant to understand and divulge the message.

More light should be shed on other programmes in the scheme such as agriculture and technology.

In this period we have enough educated youths who are unemployed, this programmed should have solely focused on agricultural development where at the end of the program a certain amount should be given to the participant to start his or her own farm.

This is just an opinion though.

We are tired of teaching youths who will eventually become unemployed tomorrow.

Questions

1. This programm is it going to be a continuous process in as much as govt is concerned.

2. After the successfull completion of the programme for the two years, can one reapply again because from the write up, you said its a voluntary programme...

3 will Nigeria youths wait every two years for the intakes to passout every two two years before they can apply or is it going to be an annual recruitment stuff..

lastly Don't you think this is an extended form of NYSC, I believe very will that there is no youth in Nigeria without an ambition. The federal govt kept us for one year for the the so called NYSC and now they are bringing in another one Npower, the money that they will spend for this programmes, they should just give each graduate the total for for the duration once and for all and let everyyouth go and start what he or she wishes with his or her own pay. its an opinion...

With the way they condemned d police recruitment thing, u will think they wouldn't get up to 1000 applicants. So I won't be surprised if I see over 10million apply for this one too.

To fools and educated illiterates, the teaching programme is laudable. How can you be so daft, are they producing future teachers? What skills could u garner from teaching that would be useful to the grauduates on completion of the 2 year program. Or are we merely extending the wasted years of NYSC. What happened to an iintensive two year skill acquisition program , what happened to entrepreneurship programs, programs that can actually help the graduates become self sustaining. Since it is voluntary what is the aim of this N power thing. To produce teachers or to empower our jobless youths .

I thought we would be creating models for diversification, self employment and job creation. Yet some of u half baked graduates who can't reason thinks a two year teacher voluntary teacher program would help you become a good engineer, doctor, business manager when you finish it or maybe the 23k would make you rich ? Or the laptop to be given would make u an employer.

Fools deserve to be lead by one eyed blind men. You all disgust me

Can't you be constructive in your comments for one? Try and always be conscious of what you say on the internet. Some of you just hate anything that government initiates without providing an alternative.

DO you think the government can employ every unemployed youth in the country? Would you rather that the government ignore the unemployed youths because of your biased idea that the programme is useless?

For your information, Mr Man, teaching itself is a skill that is applicable to various fields apart from education itself.

The programme is not also all about teaching. There are other initiatives such as Agriculture, Health, Web development, etc that are there. I am sure you did not see my last point because you were clouded by the hatred for this initiative itself.

Learn to be constructive. The hate will do you no good!

Really, our education system needs rejigging as depicted by your write-up. N-power addresses more than skillsets as a teacher, Huawei also floated the ICT scheme as well as skillsets in Construction, repairs etc.
Do your researches before criticizing: stop being anti-good initiatives. Be positive.

Things would fail to add up if prices of commodities continue to rise.
I have to ask will there be a kind of loan that will be given at the end of the two years? Won't those that participate still be at the mercy of the very few companies we have? Most schools can barely afford to pay more than 25k to graduates and won't those that participate end up in these schools at the end? After all they are being trained to be teachers. Now tell me of what use is this if I can easily get those 25k teaching job without participating in this project? How much do you think can be saved at the end of 2 years from this 23k monthly payment?
This initiative is nice but the prospects after 2 years is fragile and I fail to feel confident that I will feel like a graduate after the completion of my two years voluntary service.

The current government shall sustain it for as long as possible. If a new government comes and changes things, well, we cannot question that.

2. After the successfull completion of the programme for the two years, can one reapply again because from the write up, you said its a voluntary programme...
I dont think you can apply for it twice. The aim of the programme is not to provide permanent employment but just to engage jobless youths while they seek for better placement.

3 will Nigeria youths wait every two years for the intakes to passout every two two years before they can apply or is it going to be an annual recruitment stuff..
I think it will be in batches like NYSC. The emphasis here is "I think"!
lastly Don't you think this is an extended form of NYSC, I believe very will that there is no youth in Nigeria without an ambition. Paying youths money to start businesses will not solve the problem of unemployment in Nigeria because most of the youths today are reckless with money and lack any form of prudence. The best way to help them is through this method. If you give them money, many will use it to do unspeakable things and go back to square one. However, there are modalities in place to give soft loans to interested youths in other to start entrepreneurial ventures!

This is commendable but this government should focus resources more on power generation, road construction and provision of water and houses. If all these are available then that 23k will be very meaningful and well appreciated

And I said that as well. The pay is too small but it is better than nothing. Most of the people that will be engaged do not have alternatives. Even private secondary schools pay between 15-20k. Meanwhile, FG is going to take in millions of people eventually and consider the financial burden that it will incur. Other than that, the money is just a startup projection! It may be increased later on.

499,999 others will learn those skills too. Then after two years we are to go and compete with each other for the very few jobs available in which most won't pay well.
My dear just ask the government to do our light and provide housing loans that can stretch to 10 years and we will find our way.
