Ken Saro-Wiwa wasted his life by himself. Nigerians seem incapable of objective discourse. We read Ken Saro-Wiwa and Mamman Vatsa in secondary school in my day and you tend to love such people. Both were executed and it broke my heart. But I've grown and seen the harsh realities of life. Ken Saro-Wiwa was no less a "resource-control" advocate like the others presently doing same and reaping untold money. They're reaping millions of dollars from the death of Saro-Wiwa. All this environmental pollution he and they claim is a smokescreen. They've never cared about it. That school of thought believes that the present political entities covered by the oil area OWN the oil and should control it. Another word for greed. Number one: do you know how many "people" have come and gone in that area over the millenia that the oil was there? Because you happen to be there at the time the British opened your eyes, you claim to own it. How come over the thousands of years (or hundreds of thousands, or millions) that the oil was there that you never used it one day, until some people from far away invested huge money to search for and drill the oil to turn it into a money spinner. That was possible because you were part of a country called Nigeria and the rulers of Nigeria consider all parts of the country as one entity where they could spend or use resources as needed for the betterment of all. It was a Northern ruler that oversaw the beginning of commercial crude oil drilling in Nigeria and he used a lot of it to develop infrastructure in the country's capital which was in the West (not North). So now the water in Kainji and Shiroro dams that have been providing us electricity before gas in the Niger-Delta nko? So the communities there should start fighting about owning the water too abi? They should be sabotaging the dams because it is their water? I know it is shocking to all of you to realise that both are perfectly equivalent; they're things occurring naturally there and exploited for the national good. If oyibo didn't invent uses for crude oil, no Niger-Delta person ever would The problem with Nigeria is the curse of ethnic identities and jingoism which makes people see things through tribal prisms and not for the national good. Nigeria is an ignorant, society of near-primates and the way out of our problem is long-term, and that is proper education and stopping this university madness which breeds ignoramuses with huge egos 1 Like |

msjijitar: Here is a list of some of your greedy kinsmen who looted and ruined the fortune of this country. And this is your idea of 'One Nigeria' where you persistently rob Peter to perennially pay parasitic Paul, and still continue to spill innocent blood to maintain the status quo in the polity. Can you spot Igbos on the list? simtosul: The question here really is the role these men and women played in the current state of Nigeria. The List of Top 20 Most Corrupt Nigerian Leaders (dead/alive) below: 1. Oluesgun Obasanjo – He stole $25 billion from 1999-2007 ($16.4 from power sector alone) 2. Ibrahim Babangida – He stole $15 billion from 1985-1993 ($12.4 billion from oil wind fall in 1990) 3. Abdulsalam Abubakar – He stole $9 billion from 1998-99 4. Under his watch as PTF Head, N25 billion got missing according to PTF Situation Report submitted to Abdusalam in 1999. 7. TY Danjuma – He fraudulently got enriched through oil blocks from the Niger Delta worth $20 million in the 70s after the counter coup. Those oil blocks worth billions of dollars in today’s value. 8. Sanusi Lamido Sanusi – He stole $1.2 billion as CBN Governor from 2008-2014. 9. Bukola Saraki – Through his father, Olukola Saraki, their bank, Societe Generale and as a governor of Kwara State (2003-20111) he stole $1.1 billion 10. Nasir El Rufai – Before he was made the FCT Minister, El Rufai was broke, homeless and was looking for loan to import taxis from the UK. After he was made the minister, he seized landed properties that belonged to Nigerians and resold them with huge profit. It’s estimated that he stole $1 billion from 2003-2007. 11. Tunde Fashola – He is the poster boy of Tinubu. Boht of them looted Lagos dried and left it in debt of about N1 billion. Atiku Abubakar – When he as asked by our reporter how he made his money, he simply said “he was always at the right place at the right time.” Atiku is an astute businessman, but through shady deals, he stole $500 million from 1999-2007. 14. James Ibori – He stole $150 million from 1999-2007 as governor of Delta State. He’s serving his term for money laundering in the UK. 15. Amina Mohammed – This woman was the founder of Afri-Project Consortium (APC) that was in charge of all PTF Projects during Abacha’s regime. About $125 million was stolen from PTF accounts from 1994-1998. Buhari has just nominated the same woman as a minister to continue to stealing. 16. DSP Alamieyeseigha – He stole $120 million and was arrested for money laundering. He pleaded guilty and long served his term. 17. Sule Lamido – He stole $110 million between 2007-2015 and out of that amount, $50 million was found in his sons’ bank accounts. He was arrested and detained for days together with his sons. 18. Rabui Kwankwaso – He stole $100 million as a governor of Kano State. EFCC has arrested many of his aides and they are “singing” how they siphoned the money 19. Kashium Shettima – this governor has stolen about $80 million and still counting. 20. Rauf Aregbesola – he has milked Osun State to the tune of $60 million. 21. Kayode Fayemi – this former governor stole $40 million and stashed some part of the loot in Ghana. He was reportedly bought a bed for N50 million. Note: The likes of President Goodluck Jonathan and key members of his administration including the former Minister of Petroleum are missing. Source: NewsDay |

In my innocence of the false charges I face Here, in my utter conviction, I call upon the Ogoni people, the peoples of the Niger delta, and the oppressed ethnic minorities of Nigeria to stand up now and fight fearlessly and peacefully for their rights. History is on their side. God is on their side. For the Holy Quran says in Sura 42, verse 41: 'All those that fight when oppressed incur no guilt, but Allah shall punish the oppressor.' Come the day. Allahu Akbar.. |

66xtr63r you are definitely not urhobo for insulting Bini people. No urhobo person does that. I'm urhobo and if anything we were in the same state with the Binis (Bendel state), and because of that and many more reasons, the urhobo and Bini man would always have some sort of bond. You just cannot separate us. I'm fully aware that the only people who abuse and use all sorts of derogatory words against Binis are the igbos. Are you Igbo? If yes, then you have no business deciding who is or who isn't in the SS. Edo state is SS and in Niger Delta. Whether you like it or not is your headache. 4 Likes |

Deadlytruth: One thing we forget is that 'you can only destroy a messenger but, cannot destroy the massage'. The fight he couldn't win is still on, the message keeps spreading and now there are many agitators everywhere. Disunity is a symptom. We just live in a denial here and keep massaging the truth. The solution to all these agitations lies in ending this feeding bottle structure that we practice which encourages neocolonialism, the amalgamation of North and South is a big fraud. There is so much injustice, inequity, subjugation, winner-takes-it-all. There can't be peace under this structure, and if there is no peace there can't be unity or progress. Everyone must be made to feel involved, protected and represented for there to be first, a sense of patriotism, then unity. In this present structure where you have too strong center, one people use the instrument of the state to oppress and marginalize others. And we are talking about peace and unity. Let's be sincere, where in the world would security operatives open fire on unarmed civilian doing peaceful protest? Let's stop massaging the truthThis feeding bottle system of government we are running in this nation is the cause of all these problems. We need to end this structure. I am in total support of true fiscal federalism where every zones contribute a token to the centre and take their future and pace of growth in their own hands, and express their cultures and religion freely, and practice their vocations unhindered. I strongly believed that this is the only way to end this injustice. So, I want to urge all Nairalanders and well meaning Nigerians to support the proposed fiscal federalism as recommended in 2014 National Conference. Let's stop this tribal statements and insult because, it will only cause hatred and more agitation for self determination. Everyone must be made to feel involved, protected and represented for there to be first, a sense of patriotism, then unity. |
