Nairaland needs gossip to thrive, its not a charity forum. It survives when people view ads on the site, So those stupid topics drive traffic that makes more people see ads or click them or Pay for ads.

Seun and the mods should read up on MARKETING MYOPIA. Many organizations have fallen victim to marketing myopia. This is especially the case with online/social media. It starts with the organization disregarding customer insights/objections/opinions, then demarketing starts happening. Brand dissonance sets in. Brand loyalty starts diminishing. While that is going on, more customers-centric competitors are becoming interested in the business and before you know it, boom! Customers have migrated to the listening brand. Then, what is done cannot be undone.

So true. Every other day there is a thread on the front page talking about the killing of snakes. At one point I just assumed that it was because snakes are sometimes linked to witchcraft and Africans are so superstitious. The things is I have a huge fear of snakes so when I see such threads I stop clicking on topics on the front page and instead go directly into the different categories. For example, I click on threads listed under "Family" or "Romance". It would be nice if the moderators understood that there are people out there who have ophidiophobia (fear of snakes) and stopped putting every thread about the killing of snakes on the front page.
