I believe the Nigerian diplomats not America until CCTV evidence is produced. If the accusations are false then Nigeria should know that this is how America demonizes client states that they want to destroy.

'Shocked and embarrassed'

But one of the MPs, Mohammed Gololo, told the BBC the accusations were "false" and "unfounded" and that he demanded a retraction.

"I was shocked. I was embarrassed. There is nothing as such that has happened," he said.

He went on to detail reasons why he believed the story did not stand up.

"You can imagine if one attempted to rape someone or grabbed someone, what stopped the person from screaming? What stopped the person from shouting?

"Remember we were there in April. Now we are in June. What stopped them from alleging or stopped them from reporting from April until now? What stopped them from bringing footage or some video clips of how it happened and where it happened?

"It's false, it's unfounded, and it's really embarrassing."

Mr Gololo said he was demanding an apology from the US government over the allegations or would take legal action, and that he was considering paying for himself to return to Cleveland to clear his name.

One of the other accused men, Mr Gbillah, said the allegation was a baseless attempt to tarnish the reputation of Nigeria's House of Representatives.

A US Embassy spokesperson declined to comment on "private diplomatic correspondence".

Resurgent Bokoharam, Militant groups popping up all over the place, there'll probably soon be random lone wolfs terrorist attacks on vip's, which of course Nigerians will naively hail. Whatever, whomever Nigerians watch or blame out of the usual suspects, never, ever implicitly trust America. Watching them like hawks will do no harm, especially as we are rightfully dallying with China.

perhaps the US should be less gung-ho given its past precedents.Media now is prolific and for our concerns, the days when the invocation of the imagery of an African in positions of authority abroad was enough for us to fill our colonial minds with Tin-pot, dictator, pot-bellied buffoons salivating at the mouth at the goodies on offer in more "civilized" Western climes are over. Some of us Africans are likelier now to see the implication.

Here's what i mean in primary school speak:

perhaps the US should be less gung-ho given past precedents.

Meaning: given America's history of interfering in the afire of other Nations, it should not come as a surprise if they are blamed for things that they are known for doing.

Media now is prolific and for our concerns,

Meaning: We live in the Media age. People around the world have access to information and are largely no longer ignorant.

colonial minds
Meaning: black peoples self hate which was informed by colonial portrayal of us.

the days when the invocation of the imagery of an African in positions of authority abroad was enough for us to fill our colonial minds with Tin-pot, dictator, pot-bellied buffoons salivating at the mouth at the goodies on offer in more "civilised" Western climes are over.

Meaning: informed by Self-hate, blacks automatically see their leaders as the Western World Wants us to view them. So, for instance, the moment the Americans accused some Nigerian diplomats of sexual abuse in An American hotel, they needed to provide no further proof or evidence because our Colonial minds will automatically pronounce them guilty. We will see the Nigerian diplomats in derogatory terms and expectations. We will visualize them, our people, like apes who, seeing the splendor of America for the first time, would go wild like primitives or uncouth pot-belied tin-pots. They would go wild at the supposed beauty of Hispanic, White or African American maids, because as Africans the Nigerian diplomats have never seen women before. You get the picture. These Nigerian diplomats probably would ring room service and demand that hotel management tie ropes to the front door so that when they return to their rooms, they can swing like apes from the door to the bed. The Diplomats also would require flowers in rooms replaced with bowls of banana.

Some of us Africans are likelier now to see the implication.

Meaning: Some of us are no longer fooled by the West.
