I don't just understand what d NASS is trying to achieve with ds latest proposal to strip d President d power to assent to constitution amendment,even under a very weak Jonathan,he declined d last amendment due to infractions noticed,ds is effort in futility,NASS will need 24 states of Assembly to effect ds change but count d North out of ds proposal,and I m so sure of that,ask d 7th NASS what happened to state police proposal last term,it was roundly opposed by 19 Northern govs and that was d fatal end to dt fantasy!!!!

Sounds good to me. If an amendment is passed by 2/3 majority in the Senate, House of Representatives, and the Houses of Assembly in the states, that should mean that the vast majority of Nigerians want it. Why should we now allow one man to veto its passage. Government is supposed to reflect the wishes of the vast majority of the people, not the wishes of one man.

The President's power to veto a bill of parliament is integral to the concepts of separation of powers and checks and balances and these are indispensable features of a presidential system of government. The presidents right of assent vis-à-vis his power of veto is a check and balance for the legislature's power to enact laws which is in turn checked and balanced by the power of the legislature to sidestep the requirement for presidential assent.. I don't see anything wrong with those constitutional provisions. I stand corrected if am wrong tho'

Indeed he has a huge point as one man cannot be greater than the entire people whom the national and state house of assemblies represent. If we are to practice democracy, these sort of thoughts are highly welcomed

The question you are not asking is: how the executive will counter-balance the nonsense coming from the legislators? In its imperfect sense, the executive & legislative had been able to keep each other in check.

My groose is with the Mr President who has slowed down in prosecuting this present crop of leaders for alleged forgery of senate standing rules & foist themselves on the hallowed chambers.
