I visited Jos recently and on my way into Plateau state, I noticed that farmers had an ingenious and cheap solution to the fencing challenge. Their approach is shown here in the pictures below:

@midastouch the plant is Cacti...I doubt it will be of any hindrance to the Fulani and their cattle...they could just cut them off even before they grow

nice innovation from the farmers.
The cactus plant would have been cut down by the fulani herdsmen if the farmers are not living near the farm as seen in the picture.
Moreover it may be time consuming and expensive to fence large acres with cactus plant.
Thanks and God bless for sharing.

Every crop has its own specific risks and challenges, risk for tomato is different from the one of plantain,to be able to mitigate those risk with maximum returns, you have to identify those specific risks.

Impressive thread, I can see your commitment in Agriculture.

I plan to go into agric business myself and I have realize the earlier the better. Am a full grown office worker and my plan is to invest in cash crop mostly. I don't think I presently don't think I have the time to go into other ones that will require my full time attention.

I sent you a Pm, I will try and give you a call for advice as well.

Another major challenge is scarcity of farm labourers.
2016 has been a year where you have to run to and fro to get laborers.Getting our usual cheaper Togolese and Benin workers has been difficult.I guess the entry and exit through the borders were tighten because of the Boko haram menace and economic factors.
The reason most of these laborers come to Nigeria for farm work is because our currency is more valuable than theirs,Now that the value of Naira has collapse and their currency is far better than ours, what's the essence of coming to Nigeria to do farm work?
Unexpected challenges of such do come up,how do you find alternative solution to it?
Stay tuned and watch out for my next post.

In a situation where the cheap laborers are not available and the ones that are available are lazy and demand expensive wages and you have enormous farm work to do.
2 options comes to mind;
Re: My Farm Experience Diary: Advice For Intending And Established Farmers (pics) by Lesgupnigeria(m): 10:29am On Jun 18, 2016
From my experience, the villagers in the southwest mostly yoruba are lazy in terms of farm work and depend outrageous wages for work. So,they were not even an option in the first place.
Initial plan was to travel down to Benue to source for the Agatus and the Igbiras as they are hardworkin but the language barrier and also scarce.
We were able to overcome the challenge by usin some combination of strategies;that i will be talkin about in my next post.stay tuned.

We were able to find the Suurus(one of the hardworking tribe from ilorin) but the issue is that most of them also have their own farms for cultivation;they cant leave theirs even though its small acres, our startegy is to agree to help in the selling of their farm products and management of their farm.
Through this,we've been able to reduce the impact of challenges of labour scarcity.
You can also makes use of herbicides especially for crops like cassava. You can contact me for help on the brand of chemicals to use and at when to use them for
it not to affect your products.

Many of your type who start out with promising threads, end up asking people to come pay for training. And in the end, is filled with scam and empty leaflets and instructions.

Not that I am calling your a scammer, but you are yet to identify what it is exactly that you.

Secondly, who knows if you are not a farm worker taking pictures and trying to swindle people of their money.

Put your reputation to the test, tell us the location of your farm for people to verify your claim. Thereafter, we can say trust your words.

Hope you take my words with a sense of humility.
