Nihilist: Joffery had tywin, tyrion and the small council to at least reduce the effects of his malady. There were occasions when tywin or tyrrion would argue (or slap) decision with him. I agree with you on this little lady to an extent. Truth is, if she was ruling in westeros with all the varys and baelishes and all other power mongers; they probably would have given her a bib and toy- or even worse... |

The great Game is terrifying. One thing is certain Cersi has to die, throughout the show the truly wicked and ville ones die or those that committed atrocious acts. The gods punish you in one way or the other. Plus she is on Arya starks list. |

gj22:Yes I edited it cos I just checked and noticed it is now same with breaking bad. Ratings go up and drop, perhaps the last two episodes boosted it. It was formerly 9.2 at mid season. |

Warning: This post will contain spoilers for the Game of Thrones season six finale. This past Sunday’s season six finale of Game of Thrones was packed to the brim with shocks and surprises. Maybe one of the less surprising, but no less satisfying moments as well, came when it was confirmed that Jon Snow was not actually the bastard of Ned Stark, but actually his sister Lyanna’s son, whom he promised to protect immediately before his sister’s death in the Tower of Joy. While the show itself didn’t specify who his father was, it’s commonly assumed by many, taking into account the story’s timeline and Lyanna’s affair with Rhaegar Targaryen, that he is the son of both Lyanna (a Stark) and Rhaegar (a Targaryen). Now it might be a bit before the show actually confirms Rhaegar to be Jon’s dad, though it’s practically common knowledge at this point that he is, but one keen reddit user may have unearthed the missing portion of Lyanna’s line to Ned before her death, the one moment in the show that we can’t hear what she’s whispering in his ear. Though make sure to take all of this with a large grain of salt for the time being. Reddit User Sparkedavisjr claims that, after having watched the Tower of Joy scene “about fifty times” that when Lyanna whispers Jon’s name into Ned’s ear, she doesn’t say Jon, but instead says Jaehaerys. The name, which may not be familiar to non-book readers, is a reference to both Jaehaerys Targaryen, who was the fourth Targaryen to hold the Iron Throne, and Jaehaerys II, the latter of whom was actually the father of Rhaegar’s father, Aerys Targaryen II (The Mad King). Jaehaerys I was nicknamed “The Conciliator” or “The Wise” during his reign, while Jaehaerys II’s reign only lasted three years due to his sickly nature, which was the last good reign of the Targaryens over Westeros. It would make sense for Rhaegar and Lyanna to not only name Jon after Rhaegar’s grandfather though because of his good reputation, but also because Jaehaerys II was the first Targaryen to be told of the prophecy about the prince that was promised from the woods witch brought in by Jenny of Oldstones. The prophecy was actually the reason that Jaehaerys forced Aerys II to marry his sister, Rhaella, because it was prophesied that the prince would come from his bloodline. At first Rhaegar, who was obsessed with the prophecy himself, believed that he would be the Prince that was Promised, before realizing that it would be his son instead, leading him to “kidnap” Lyanna and have a baby with her, after his wife Elia Martell, could not have a third baby. After all, “the dragon needs three heads,” Rhaegar told her. So while it not only makes sense for Rhaegar and Lyanna to name their son Jaehaerys, it also makes sense that Ned would keep Jon’s original birth name secret, since Jaehaerys is synonymous with the Targaryen name and someone would have likely pieced the connection together. So while we can assume once and for all that Jon is the son of Rhaegar and Lyanna, making him the Prince that was Promised and making his song, the song of ice and fire, it’ll be interesting to see if his name is actually Jaehaerys or not. At this point though, I don’t really care. I’m just happy that we can finally theorize beyond Jon’s parentage now. Meanwhile, Game of Thrones season seven does not currently have a release date, and will probably come for fans about as quickly as Dany’s journey to Westeros has been. cooljoe: When winter comes for war, You shall hear no Lions roar. When winter forces you to yield, No Stags shall gaze upon the field. When winter creeps upon you from the shadows, No Roses shall bloom from the meadows. When winter wreaks havoc on the land, You can bet there'll be no Snakes in the sand. When winter brings to life all it finds grim, The Krakens will freeze where they swim. When winter sets and the land begins to shiver, The Flayed Man will start to rot and wither. When winter fights to the last sliver, No more Trouts shall swim in the river. When winter ravages and all despair, No Falcons shall fly high in the air. When winter shows you what happens when snow falls, Not even Dragons Breath shall warm you in your halls. When winter comes with all it's might, Only the Wolves shall howl in the night! ~ by Martin Skjeggis. Winter is a Time for Wolves. I don't know...that poem just gets me pumped up for the next book. Ok so to your question, Winters are hard, no harvests, crops die, no tourneys, children live and die, its freezing, nights are longer, especially in the North, but Jon and sansa know they have each other, therefore they can brace it. Ned used to say; 'When the snows fall and the white winds blow, the lone wolf dies but the pack survives.' Thhe pack is almost reuniting i guess. The Starks live in winter. 7 Likes 1 Share |

Power and maturity are two different things and most be left partified. that is why Vary said "the smallest man can cast the biggest shadow". small man here means unfits and less likely people. The whole of the yarn is figurative. Nihilist is arguing that lad marmont is immature to wield the power she has. In your definition, what is maturity and how restricted is it to age? |

semitunde We talked earlier about your unwillingness to fight in Vietnam. The Ice and Fire books are shot through with the horrors of war. As Ygritte says to Jon Snow, "We're just soldiers in their armies, and there's plenty more to carry on if we go down." It's true in virtually all wars through history. Shakespeare refers to it, in those great scenes in Henry V , where King Hal is walking among the men, before the Battle of Agincourt, and he hears the men complaining. "Well, I hope his cause is just, because a lot of us are going to die to make him king of France." One of the central questions in the book is Varys' riddle: The rich man, the priest and the king give an order to a common sellsword. Each one says kill the other two. So who has the power? Is it the priest, who supposedly speaks for God? The king, who has the power of state? The rich man, who has the gold? Of course, doesn't the swordsman have the power? He's the one with the sword – he could kill all three if he wanted. Or he could listen to anyone. But he's just the average grunt. If he doesn't do what they say, then they each call other swordsmen who will do what they say. But why does anybody do what they say? This is the fundamental mystery of power and leadership and war through all history. Going back to Vietnam, for me the cognitive dissonance came in when I realized that Ho Chi Minh actually wasn't Sauron. Do you remember the poster during that time? WHAT IF THEY GAVE A WAR AND NOBODY CAME? That's one of the fundamental questions here. Why did anybody go to Vietnam? Were the people who went more patriotic? Were they braver? Were they stupider? Why does anybody go? What's all this based on? It's all based on an illusion: You go because you're afraid of what will happen if you don't go, even if you don't believe in it. But where do these systems of obedience come from? Why do we recognize power instead of individual autonomy? These questions are fascinating to me. It's all this strange illusion, isn't it? semitunde: Most definitely. It makes absolutely no sense at all, that the fighting men of Bear island, and their captain should entrust their lives into the hands of a 10 year old who doesn't even know what battle is....regardless of any obligations to honour, creed etc. Like I keep pointing out to people, her decision to back Jon snow was a disaster..and I don't believe it's a coincidence that it was a child who sent her men to their death while the older mature Lords wisely abstained. The older Lords were all very specific about their motives: which was to preserve the lives of their men. Whereas this child put some bullshit ideology over the lives of 62 men who had no say in the matter. I think thar people are so happy to have Jon Snow in the driving seat for S7 that they failed to ask several questions. 1. What leverage does Jon Snow have? He's still a bastard(his true parentage has not been revealed to the North), he's known to be tactically inept in military battles, and more importantly....HE HAS PRACTICALLY NO MEN LEFT. 2. How is it that when that gobby child was going on and on about the king in the north, blah blah, nobody pointed out the points raised in Q1 to her? 3. More pertinently, how did no one point out that it was the Knights of the Vale who won the battle against the boltons, and thus them who should be at the heart of trophies new Nothern coalition ? That scene made zero sense to me. I cannot pledge my fighting men to a general who has no rank, no men, and no tactical acumen...and this was why I expected at least one lord to rise up and educate that loudmouthed girl and her no-nothing oga. 2 Likes |

blackjack21: I agree with you that maturity isn't restricted to age, even though you have to agree that this holds true only from some agreed age forward. What is that age? 10? 15? Open to debate. But beyond this, wielding power and allegiance is depend end on so many other factors apart from age and maturity, and even more so when such age is on the low side ( see joffery and tommen); now like I said, its dependent on many factors hence an old man like Ned and the baratheons can fall while trying to weild same power. This I think is the essence of varys words- that you cannot actually determines who and what wields power at a particular point, its the end that justifies and gives legitimacy to the means. Like cersei said after threatening someone ( can't remember who now) "power is power". Its regardless of who wields it or how. Even dany without her dragons won't have lasted this long, and you bet she's more mature than the little lady. |

Now the ladies are, and we feel the writers are up to something? Just enjoy the story. After all its the story that makes you come back for more. If there was something wrong with the story, you would have dropped it, same way I dropped 'Lucifer' 4 Likes |
