A Plan Without A Plan (can Biafra Learn From The Brexit?) by ddddon(m): 10:10am On Jul 01, 2016 |
The term ‘Brexit’ has dominated the news of late, economics guru are faced-down to their drawing board trying to come up with a plan, a plan that will ease the economic stress that is likely to align with the decision of Britain to leave the European Union. Some Britons have come to term with this new reality ‘Brexit’ they now know their fate, others are playing the ‘Game of Time’ waiting for time to settle their fate, a surprising few are asking what the term ‘Brexit’ means, coming to google for lifeline. Brexit Explained Brexit is coined from two words, ‘British Exit’ which simply means, the exit of Britain from the European Union. It was a voting decision carried out by all countries in the United Kingdom on the 23rd of June 2016. Friends have been asking me, “Does it mean that Britain is no longer an European state”? “Is Britain now a continent on its own”? Questions I find rather funny. However, let me use this piece to address all questions on that, Britain remains an European nation as geographical complexities would have it, however, it is the Union (EU) that they recently decided not to be a part of. Same way Nigeria can decided to draw back its membership to the African Union and the ECOWAS. A Plan without a plan The propounders of the Brexit movement did a great job on the campaign for the Brexit. When it all started, they were underdogs going by the odds, prominent British parliamentarians were on the ‘Remain’ side, the full weight of the British Prime Minister David Cameron was on the ‘Team Remain’, and also surprising was the late British MP, Jo Cox (Oh! Such a gentle soul) she stood firmly on the ‘Remain’ side, before her untimely death. Despite these odds mounting against the Brexit movement, they still manage to win. This show clearly a particular variable, the people championing the exit of Britain from Europe had a plan, and they stay through to their plan till the attainment of the plan that led to the now popular Brexit. Obviously, the plans for Brexit has worked, but what the movement now lack is a plan after Brexit, hence the tag “A plan without a plan”. Can Nigeria have a referendum? Shortly after a chunk of the British population voted for the exit of Britain from the EU, political commentators started the comparison, can Nigeria be like Britain? Can we have a referendum to discuss Biafra? And the obvious answer to the thoughts of these politicians is simple, “Nigeria’s democracy is not yet ripe for such” If you have been a follower of my column, you would have known my clear stance on the Biafran movement, and it’s simple, I stand afar from the current movement. A stance that have made me receive various cyber and vocal threat from the foot soldiers of the movement. My lack of support for this current agitation of Biafra, does it make me less Igbo than those clamoring for Biafra? The answer is “No” I am not in support of the current Biafran movement solely because Nnamdi Kanu and the ‘rest’ are yet to state their plans for an independent Biafra outside of Nigeria, and not just ‘talking cheap’ but real and accurate economic plans that will see the survival of ‘infant Biafra’, sadly that’s an angle that is yet to be discussed whenever Biafra is being mentioned, they only focus on the sufferings of Igbos in Nigeria (as if suffering is exclusively ours). The voice of the people is the voice of God We can have a referendum here in Nigeria, I am pretty sure about that, irrespective of the current president’s opinion on this, as long as the people speaks with one voice, after all, “the voice of the people is the voice of God”. And referendum is not achieved with street protest and road blocks that will end up being bloody, but by politicking and consultation, public opinions and conducting of polls, this way general participation can be gained and we will have our referendum. But before that, have we learnt our lessons from Brexit? Can we now push our focus on the way forward for the Igbos when we achieve Biafra, because this is the only and the best tool that can be adopted to win the heart of the many ‘undecided igbos’ myself included. I rest my case. written by Arinze Esomnofu @arinzeesom source: http://www.edliner.com/plan-without-plan-can-biafra-learn-brexit/20108 1 Like |

Did the entire Europe participate in the referendum polls?...... No!!!! Did the entire Ukraine participate in the referendum polls.... No!!!!! There's a process in getting things done but it requires patience. Now note that Igbos problem isn't because they're in Nigeria..... They need to stop struggling and look inward. An igbo man doesn't need any economic style to excel...... Their way of doing business defines the economy. Division is limitless and isn't a guarantee for growth just like South Sudan. I'm not in for a debate but make a quality choice..... The type that meets need and not base on hatred or lack of self confidence. TrueSenator has spoken..... 1 Like |

TrueSenator: I beg to differ. I think that the Igbo man's problem is because he is in Nigeria. Contrary to the insinuations bandied about on the Internet like "what have you Governors being doing?", "what have your leaders being doing?". People tend to forget that Igbo leaders and elected officials can afford to do nothing because we are all in Nigeria where the high and mighty are answerable to nobody. The Igbo man has not being given the chance to manage himself, instead, we have been directed and managed by one visionless Goverment or the other since 1960. How can the Igbo man grow when he has to be fighting with Hausas and Yorubas about what is due or not due to him in Nigeria? To make matters worse, we being run by a constitution that is not reflective of the Igbo way of doing things. The unitary system of Government Nigeria has been running since 1966 is very bad for Igbos who have been an egalitarian people. To cap it all off, Nigeria has contributed immensely to the division of Igbos by state creation. Nigeria is stifling the Igbos, Nigeria has been very bad for Igbos because it robbed them of their sovereignty. Igbos and Igbo land, a tribe of over 40 million people being governed in strange land called Abuja? Why? I conclude that unless Igbos take back their sovereignty and return to being Governing as they were before Lord Lugard came with his message of Nigeria, we are headed no where because it is plain for anyone that Nigeria does not work as a nation. The Igbo nation have paid a huge price because Lugard included them in Nigeria, we lost millions in the civil war. Is the Igbo man better off in Nigeria? Not at all. The most important thing for Igbos and Nigerians to learn from Brexit is that if any sovereing people want leave any group, be it Igbos leaving Nigeria or otherwise, conduct a referendum instead of going to war to kill each other. 10 Likes 1 Share |

Yes a referendum by Igbos for the Igbos only....... Igbos must only take what's theirs and leave ND out of it to succeed. A better deal would be to change the Biafra name to a more representative name to carry along everyone who choose to join that sovereignty. There's a way and time to do the right things sensibly without the lose of life. Above all, I strongly believe one Nigeria is far better than...it's wisdom. zendy: |

TrueSenator: I don't know what you mean by referendum for Igbos only, anyone has the right to a referendum just as much as Igbos. As for Nigeria Delta, what the minorities in that area do are their business, however, the Igbos there must be returned to their brothers, I.E those that identify as Igbos. 2 Likes |

He did that after travelling to different countries, who among ur leaders can do that, this is just the beginning of pangs of distress for nigeria, i know your buhari will fail, then it will be clear to all and sundry, and he is failing already just wait till 2019 5 Likes |

I think the biafrans should coordinate themselves first before making any claim of how the British coordinated their own peaceful memorandum, the truth is that you can't call the government unprintable names, hurl enormous curse and abuse of different kind on your leaders, call the country you reside a ZOO, broadcast a pirate radio, instill and influence your several followers with hate and at the same time want reasonable people and organization to take you agitation and self determination serious....... *patiently waiting for how they would call for my head now* 1 Like |
