cheap differs my dear. whats your budget fir hotel? when you arrive go to women development center in central Area. its un form of a hostel though they still have hotel dont go there. just ask of the hostel and go there. those days like 2011. 2012 it used to be 1500- 2000k but now economic wahala and the way people like money may be 3000k or 3500. when u arrive there no go dey do big man oh. tell them u need it just for a night. another option is kubwa at arab road sunrise hotel and there is another one after that but I cannot remember the name. you can get a nice room for 4500 to 6k.. if you must stay in kubwa that means if you interview is 7:30am u must leave the hotel 6:30am. but if it is central area u can leave the house 7:00am or 7:15am. and just pick a drop #300 to the embassy. but if kubwa u ll spend like #500 to the embassy but if drop e go be #1500. i hope this helps

If you have gtbank online banking you can make the payment without going to bank..

Most times bank will tell you no network but from your online banking it will work because of the channels in processing it are different.

De way to go about it is this: first get a school in the USA for example you can get admission into technology management (which BTW, at Uni Bridgeport has the highest Nigerian student concentration) at UB for university of Bridgeport. Then after your first semester hopefully you will be able to get good grades, then using the grades you got at UB you can then transfer to another school that offers your course. I think University of Massachussets Lowel offer courses in renewable energy in the dept of mechanical engineering. You may check them out, but I'm almost certain they will not give u admission because of GP matter.

I know UB, as I was once at the school before I later transferred out. And secondly, if u don't know anybody in the U.S. You've to first go to the school that will be easier for you to survive and after geting the orientation about USA then you can go to those places which are more alien to your culture. Even though Texas has a lot of Nigerians there, I know UB will be easy for you to adapt because of its high Nigerian student population, the downside is that it is in Connecticut and during winter Connecticut gets so freezing, sometimes it could get as low as -7 degrees.

What of a case of someone going to UB vie scholarship..... I.e the fees has being paid to the school by the awarder of the scholarship.......and the person feels like changing school...will UB transfer the fees to the new school?.....pls I need answers
..Thanks.

Also Southeastern Uni has Academic Scholars Point System so you might get something off with that SAT score
Oh Thank you dear for the link. I'll check it up!

Hehehehe how is that possible na. UB go dash another school money. Lol. Think am na .Not possible , if its a school scholarship program

if its an outside scholarship then u need to ask the people running it if its possible to switch school . ...then yes maybe if u withdraw from Ub (within d allowed time frame ) the money will be returned back to sender and maybe sender can reallocate it .. but only that scholarship can answer it based on their rules

Hillary’s Automatic Green Card proposal to benefit Indian students
Published: 07/02/2016

Source: http://desiopt.com/news/896/Hillary%E2%80%99s-Automatic-Green-Card-proposal-to-benefit-Indian-students.html

Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton has promised automatic ‘green card’ or permanent residency to students who complete a master’s degree or a PhD from a U.S university.

Looking for a shared room with females near McDonough, GA

There are 1,32,888 Indian students in the U.S currently, second only to the Chinese, and most of them are in the STEM category.

Indian science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) students in the U.S could be the biggest beneficiaries of a proposal in Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton’s ‘Initiative on Technology and Innovation’ released this week.

OPT/CPT Blast Resume to 1000+ employers

Ms. Clinton has promised automatic ‘green card’ or permanent residency to students who complete a master’s degree or a PhD from a U.S university

Indian students mostly in STEM

There are 1,32,888 Indian students in the U.S currently, second only to the Chinese. There are 3,04,040 Chinese students. Indian students are mostly graduate students, and mostly in the STEM category. Of all the international undergraduate students, 30 per cent are Chinese, where as Indians make only three per cent of the pool.

Immigration experts who are familiar with the trends approximate that as high as 80 per cent of the Indian students could be in the STEM category and therefore in a position to benefit from Ms. Clinton’s policy.

Proposal around for a while

Automatic green card for STEM graduates has been a proposal that has been around for a while, and Republican Mitt Romney promised it during his presidential campaign in 2012.

For decades, foreign students who come to the U.S on F-1 visas could be employed in the country under what is called the Optional Practical Training (OPT). In 2008 the Bush administration allowed STEM students to stay as long as 29 months, and in 2015, the Obama administration extended it to 36 months.

“Indian students stand to benefit a lot if this policy [Ms. Clinton’s] comes through. As of now, a STEM graduate can continue to stay in the U.S. for a maximum of three years after the course. If they have not got an H-1B visa by then, they either go back to India or go back to a student visa. This uncertainty leaves them in a state of flux immediately after graduation,” said Aparna Dave, an immigration lawyer based in Washington.

Always in demand

Applications for H-1B visas exceed the stipulated quota by several times every year. For several years now, annually, there are 65,000 H-1B visas that are in the general category and an additional 20,000 meant for STEM graduates from American universities under the category ‘advanced degree exemption.’

Ms. Dave pointed out that while IT companies are aggressive in using the H-1B visas, companies in other sectors are usually lukewarm to the programme. “Many companies that are not primarily in IT are averse to getting involved in the immigration process,” she said. As a result, a mechanical, chemical or environmental engineering graduate has lesser chances to continue in the U.S, even if a corresponding job may be available with a company. If STEM graduates are automatically eligible for a green card, they could compete in the open job market and companies will find it easier to fill vacancies or expand with fresh talent, said Ms. Dave.

Move to tap top talent

Ms. Clinton explains her policy proposal as a move to “attract and retain the top talent from around the world.”

“As part of comprehensive immigration reform, Hillary would “staple” a green card to STEM masters and PhDs from accredited institutions, and support visas that allow top entrepreneurs from abroad to come to the U.S., build companies, and create jobs for American workers,” the document said.

Controversial topics, in poll year

But OPT and the number of extra STEM talent that the American job market requires every year remain controversial topics, more so in an election year. Donald Trump, the Republican candidate, has made vague remarks about retaining international students who come to the U.S, but his politics remain anti-immigration.

“The STEM OPT extension program masquerades as a mentoring and training program for foreign graduates with STEM degrees from U.S. universities; in practice it is a large temporary work-visa program for foreign workers with virtually no rules …There are no enforceable wage standards or protections for the foreign students in the OPT program or for the U.S. workers with whom the OPT workers compete. Employers are permitted to deeply undercut locally prevailing wages for jobs in STEM fields. Employers are not required to first recruit U.S. workers or even publicly advertise jobs to them before hiring OPT workers, meaning that employers do not have to establish the existence of a labour shortage before hiring workers through OPT,” Ronil Hira, Associate Professor of Public Policy at Howard University, Washington DC told the Senate Judiciary Committee earlier this year. Automatic green cards to STEM graduates is not a proposal that will go unchallenged.

How true is it that 2nd tier schools like UB graduates don't get level playing grounds from potential employers.

I dont know much about UB but when it comes to job it depends on the different sectors. Fine yes the very good schools make it easier for their students because they have good internal recruitment drive so lots of their student get full time offer from school career fairs and all and what i like abt some good schools. They invest in training the students how to interview and sell themselves well ....so yes tier 1 gives u an edge

Outside of school recuitment i wont say other schools are in different playing field. The key would be how to write your resume in such a way that it stands out and sell u and then once picked how u can shine in the interview. FINDING A JOB IS A FULL TIME JOB IN ITSELF. ... But yeah na fight to finish .

Most of our naija people coming from naija at masters level . Their resumes are not written well, also time is not invested in them on how to interview well either, as within 2years u are so focused on grades, keeping ur ga ,adjusting to a new culture, GETTING USE TO NEPA NEVER GOING OFF and all that ...so job is not the focus until the end . ..... and then when u get to the end companies would only file H1b for u if u stand out and they notice your qualitites so its all not so easy ......tap into the black networks as companies go there to fill the quota. So if u are engineering u better be at all NSBE conferences if MBA answer present at National black . Dont just attend but prepare well before the event . If ur school having any career fair clear ur calendar that day and be there prepared.

Regardless of how the road seems, people succeed somehow and u got to believe , pray and hope that you are among those.. .. see how one sentence bring all these long typing like a jobless parrot

your friends parent can follow him to the embassy but I don't think its necessary for them to go in with him for the interview ( well, except they will be travelling with him also)..
I went in alone..
