Many of us today are not doing or accomplishing much in n life simply because we lack the
humility and patience to start small.
As humans we all have dreams,Irrespective of our backgrounds and childhood experiences we all have very exciting and lofty dreams of greatness and success in life.
Many of us desire ownership of certain kinds of businesses, we desire certain levels in career, we long for certain awards and recognition and at least a degree of wealth and comfort.
We want to live in certain areas, travel to
certain destinations, drive certain cars or even own private jets!
The interesting part of these dreams lies in the fact that we see the end of the dream and focus on it much more than the beginning.

Let me explain, if you have the dream of owning a car manufacturing company, your imagination will dwell more on the end product or finished product. You'll most likely think of the various brands of cars, the colours and how people would walk into your show rooms and make purchases and how much money you'll make in
return. You would hardly dwell in your imagination on how exactly you intend to start the business – the beginning of the dream. Most of us keep visualizing our dreams from the ultimate end and hardly from the days of little beginnings, hence we rarely want to pay the price of growing we simply just wish for the end to happen on us suddenly without us lifting a finger.
If also you have as a dream a fashion line, a brand of clothing to be worn by important people globally; you'll hardly dwell in imagination and meditation on the first day you'll start building the fashion empire –from the day you'll buy your first machine, learning how to draw, design and cut fabrics. Your mental attention would always be drawn to the fun side of the dream where you'll be making sales globally and holding exhibitions and making good money.

The ultimate end of our dreams are the most pleasurable to imagine and dwell on, the beginning is always an aspect we would rarely want to think about. Incidentally, the beginning of every matter is always the most important; the way you start will go a long way in determining the way you'll end.

Even in matters like marriage, intending couples would always think and talk more about the excitement and fun of the wedding day and living together without inhibitions. They talk and plan about the wedding day, the wedding outfits, the
entertainment, the colours, and the guests – they talk about how colorful the wedding would be, they also dream of their first wedding night together and how many children they would have together and all the sweet aspects of marriage. Hardly would single individuals plan on how to handle misunderstandings, financial challenges, ego issues, weakness issues and maturity
matters. The intending couples don't really think of when the babies come and they can't sleep at night and the woman begins to lose her cute shape and the man begins to grow pot belly. Laughs

Naturally in dreaming, we love the good and sweet parts and we'll rather dwell on that. But may I say to you this morning that in life nothing just happens. Every great achievement is a product of time, effort, investment in resources, time and energy.
Every business empire today started with just one dreamer on a particular day. Every multinatiyon exists because one day a dreamer decided to sow the seed for his dream. No multibillion dollar business fell from the sky, someone toiled very hard to plant, nurture and grow the business to maturity.

In life everything grows. Nothing just appears. Everything you see today started with a seed, on a day by a person.
Many of us are not progressing or achieving
anything great in life because we are too impatient and arrogant to start small. We
want everything to start big.
You want to earn hundreds of thousands
monthly from the very first day of employment. You believe you deserve and official car from the very first year of employment, you also believe in starting your own business you need millions and a beautiful business premises.
You want your office to be located in the prime district of business; you want the office fully furnished with the best in class office furnishing, an official car to move around with, and a particular number of staff including a secretary, office assistant, driver and security guard. Yet this business is yet to generate one naira to afford all these desires.
You keep looking at your start up from this
perspective and you conclude you can't start
your business without enough capital.
Would it interest you to know that I started my own company from the dining room of my house and I was the MD, the Secretary the cleaner as well as the messenger at the very beginning? Today the story is very, very different. To move ahead with your dreams in life you must be willing to start small. You must see your dream as a seed requiring time, nurture and patience to
grow and keep growing. Life is not about wishes, it's really in the doing. You must work out your dreams, it must begin one day and one time if not it will forever remain a dream.
Everything grows with time even human beings; you can't have a baby in one month by making nine women pregnant at once.

Many today are doing nothing because they
don't want to start with doing little, they can't wait, they're inpatient; they want it now, now! Little effort massive returns, this unfortunately contradicts the law of God and nature which says what you reap is what you sow, if you sow sparingly, you reap sparingly.
Your current place of employment was once
upon a time someone's dream. You're employed there today because that person decided to start small and sow the seed for this business.
Be willing to wait for the harvest my friends, stop eating your seeds because it's relatively little compared to the harvest you've been dreaming of. It's the seed that will bring the harvest.
Do small things in big ways, commit to excellence from the very beginning, don't
overrate your worth, know what strengths you have and don't be too proud to ask for help. Don't get emotional, don't over price you.
All kites fly because of the tail, real success
is in the details, it's the little things that count the most.

I believe a major advantage of starting small is the ability to make your mistakes anonymously. When you miss it when you're still small it's much easier to bounce back. What's really worse than starting small is not starting at all.
Dear friend, that great idea is your seed, don't disdain it, don't ignore it and don't be ashamed of it. Make up your mind to start small today. Whatever you desire, whatever you dream to accomplish, start small and let time and persistent make your dreams come true. Enjoy your day!

Ofumaria:

My first interview was at Ogun, I goofed seriously. I did not divide the board into two, no date, no topic and to top it I was not talking to my students (interviewers). They told me they way I was teaching I could only teach University undergraduates.
After, the interview I was not selected as usual "we would get back to you" was the words the panel used.

Second interview, Kai! That when I knew unemployement is real and my 180k for a start disappeared. See crowd. Simple questions but the major thing they were looking at was those that could prepare lessons note which one of the invigilator told us............ I messed up. I no bother go back to the school, as I reach house na im I carry my mama lesson note begin dey study as if na final year exams I wan write.

Third interview, I knew I was going to kill them, I passed the test, lesson note but goofed again at micro teaching, why? I was not vast with the topic I selected (respiration) but this time I was confident, ruled the board, wrote the date and topic, but did not make the list.

Fourth interview, I prepared well, corrected all my mistakes. Interview started with waec past questions, I did not prepare for it at all, dem no call me- meaning I failed.

Note:I did not give up, I fell, I dusted myself up and tried again and in the process learnt and after each interview, I went back to look at my mistakes

Finally, I was coming from one of those frustrating interviews where they would drill you like say them wan pay you 1m, with two different panels. I just decided to log on to Nairaland and saw one advert and I applied by calling the number. I was asked to come to the school immediately. Right there and there I was given a micro teaching, na vexation I use finish the topic with confidence, this time mistakes made were corrected. The interviewer was shocked and was amazed that I did not teach while serving, how come I was able to perform exceptionally well? Says the interviewer, I answered, "I try to be the best in anything I want to do". He stared at me, looked at my resume and ask, if I can write a lesson plan, I replied, no sir. He fired another question in my discipline, I just laugh for my mind, the same question they asked in the just concluded waec examination, I aced it. As usual, the question applicants do not like came up.
Interviewer: How much do you intend to earn?
Me: sir, let me think. Am I working at present? No, do I need the job yes, why? I do not have any work experience and am tired of staying at home. All of these were questions running in my head. He told me, they were offering 30k........ I grabbed it with both hands.
After a year, I was at Ipaja with accomodation 50k. I got another offer at Owode!!!! I picked the former. Less I forget, lesson dey involve o, I take home say between 75-80, just 8.00pm-4.00pm with accommodation, no traffic, not like that my Banker friend that does 5.00am-10.00pm. There is money in teaching, especially if you know your onions well.

TwEnty FoUrTeEn In ReTrOsPeCt

I want to thank God for a wonderful year. November 2014 makes the thread a year and OUR GOAL is to depopulated the labour market. We are waxing strong, moving and going to greater height.

2014 has been a tough year, it has not been easy this year as a nation, a group, a forum (the crash of Nairaland) and even as a thread. Many started with us but are no more on this thread Pastordoalone (He is not dead O!) a few got a job but left or lost their job and a lot are still searching even in the face of challenges.

One of our challenges has been feedback even those that went to Ekiti are yet to give us feedback even after been employed.

In addition, to the challenges we face is having our brothers and sisters from the North, East, South-south and a few South-west posting jobs from that region, because they have been complaints that the jobs posted are restricted to Lagos even when we had a few volunteers, they could not meet up because of their tight schedule. Despite these challenges we are not giving up rather we are fired up to do above, beyond and exceed your expectations.

Furthermore, despite the crash and clash we are alive. We have got 3 days, 72 hours, 4320 minutes and 25,920 seconds to end TwEnty FoUrTeEn, someone gonna get a job before the year ends, can I get an Amen? It ain't over until it is over.

Finally, I want to say a very big thank you to you, yes you all that have made this thread what it is today.

Sunnypar:
I have been a member of this thread for some time now and have observed the trends, comics, job ads, relief and a few intellectual advice.

Teachers are the moulders of "our" future.

Observation:

1. Golden Dr., is an extra-ordinary person in the sense that he started this thread and has kept it going for almost a year despite challenges(because he was off the thread for sometime) . He offered to some very useful tips, words of advice, words of encouragement and how to go about the teaching interviews(Prof. Gday is also a member).

Some others later joined such as Pastordoalone, Ninilowo, DoveQueen ( they have since disappeared), givemejoy, artisticallyart, Prof Gday, not forgetting our own xtfield, manie, avicky and a few others.

2. Feedback is necessary in everything and anything we do. it determines decision making process , which could make it delayed or faster for individuals or corporate organisation. Many find it difficult to do this. Thanks to the fellow who posted pictures of a school and dilapidated structures and advertised it was a "reputable" school.... That is feedback. Most persons knew the next step to follow.

3.Some persons are just unfair, even after going through pages of newspapers for job ads, they find it difficult to share.... that to me is wickedness and heartlessness, YES!!! because the job maybe far away from you and someone could be close to where the job is.

4. Some that are far away from the "action" (where the jobs are concentrated) should do as the experts on this thread have suggested.

5. Typographical error should be discouraged for a teacher or would-be teacher on this thread (mediocrity should be discouraged) grammatical constructions and punctautions such as full stop, commas e.t.c are VERY important.

Suggestions:
it is good we have a forum like this and a thread solely for the teachers.

1. Feedback cannot be over- emphasized. Please do give feedback when necessary.

2. When you see a job ad that you know you are far from it, please post it.

3. It would not be a bad idea if we have individuals from say Gombe, Bayelsa, Zaria and the likes dropping teaching jobs in that region.

4. If each one can reach one, each one can teach one- Charles 'B'.

5. it would not be a bad idea if we know the salary range of schools within "specific" locations within a region like Lekki, Ajah, Badore, Ikorodu, Festac, Orile, Ringroad, Sabon geri,Ugbowo, Dugbe, Kubuwa, Kabba e.t.c by doing,it will save us a lot.

6. Ensure you read, re-read and read you post before posting, for crying out loud there is the modify button.

Thank you.

Where art thou?
ravensckar:
Let us not call a spade a spatulous object for abrading the surface of the earth. Let us simply call it what it is; A spade. That people snap up job vacancies here without giving feedbacks after attending such interviews is the height of insensitivity. Funny enough, this lackadaisical attitude of 'No feed back' is becoming contagious; As some of us who were of the habit of always giving feed backs have refrained from doing so.

I've been observing this trend for quite some time, and honestly it's worrisome. Out there, people request for cash, recharge cards, and even s*X to connect unemployed people with their prospective employers. Here, we only request for feedback and nothing else.

The last job I posted here recently was actually offered to me by a friend, but I told him I would pass it because I'm presently occupied with some stuff. Sadly, no one has come hear to give feedbacks. And I'm sure they would have gone for the school's interview. Such ungrateful attitude!

Let this be an appeal to all those whose habit it has become to always snap jobs from here without giving feedbacks in return. You should know for sure that you're being ungrateful. A word they say.....

Meanwhile, is there anyone here that got the invite from Thomas Adewunmi College, Omu-aran, Kwara state. Of all the invites I've been receiving lately, this particular one seems tempting. Already, I've scheduled my interview with them on Sat July 4th. If there's anyone who got their invite, please open up so that we can share ideas. Funny enough, I already have interviews slated on July 2nd @ St. John Paul's Sch Ikoyi, July 3rd @ St. Jude Private Sch Festac, and now this one on July 4th.

It's really the opening of the teachers' transfer window (as football lovers commonly call it). It's gonna be busy henceforth, but without regular feedbacks, I guess it's going to be a boring thread. Peeps! Let's keep this thread rolling with feedbacks.

P.S: Please, whenever you're to mention me, kindly put my moniker. Else, it might take time before I stumble upon that 'Visiting Prof' title up there. Moreso, that 'Visiting Prof' is just an honourary title and could be withdrawn upon the whim of the conferrer. Lolz!
