It was a tragic experience on that unforgettable terrific midnight. Everyone stood the chance of being killed. I jumped out of my room ONNLY with nika in my body as gun shots were being heard from here and there and we were running hecter sceta, some ran to straight bullets and we're hit. That was my most terrifying moment in life, never wish to remember it again!

Just imagine.... Arrested cultist with clean n pure evidence, yet dey were granted bail. Wherever d judge is,b it alive or dead, it will not be well with him. Most of dis top men in our society are once cultist, dats d main reason why dis useless dude found it easy to scale tru any court ish.

Back den, dats d spirit of Aluta..... Imagine a day after d cultist leashed dia terror agenda, d S.U.G organized demsef n search for some of d cultist, unlike some useless sug we av now, most of dem are V.C dogs.

That place where they came out the following morning caught my attention too, I don't think we have any SUG leaders in this country that can try that again.

Meanwhile, Deviano set in 2009 displayed similar act (with John Pillar and co) when we heard that those guys had invaded the school during the 10 years remembrance.

cool I can relate with your story sir! I was in Jss that time but my cousins in OAU then gave more terrifying details of the whole thing.

Similar thing happened a day to the 10 years remembrance in 2009 but ended up being a false alarm. Some of my friends got injured in the process cool

Every year this story will resurface again. Is it being told to remind the families of the dead ones or brush the ego of the cultist.?
In the 90s and early 2000 stories of killings and unfortunate death filled every where mostly in the east and south south of which this story is way below the ladder of the wanton destructions caused .
This story is painting of a pix where some of our young ones will start liking cultist life rather than the opposite.
Lets give the dead a break to RIP.

I wonder oh!...dunno the essence of repeating it annually. undecided

Where in that report do they paint the cultist in good light? if only you took your time to read you will know that you have only stated the opposite of what the article is intended.

Go back and read again. But now, slowly.

We enjoyed the peace in OAUIfe. It's only in OAU campus you will see female students walking freely 2am without any fear of being attacked. I stand to be corrected.

Only OAU students both current and past will understand the importance of this story.

Throughout my academic stay in OAU never for once did I fear any cult attack neither did I receive any threat from anyone. It was so unusual even tho it used to be the norm.

OAU students stood in unity and fought Campus Cultism to a halt. This shows the importance and strength in speaking with one voice and fighting together for a just course.

Say no to Cultism , it is a killer of dream and purpose!!!

AFRIKA died a legend,
his blood was shed
so others' can be spared
He died on his bed even if it was gory
But I'm sure he definitely lives on in his glory.

LIVE ON AFRIKA

Bros ehn, you are right. Throughout my stay in OAU campus, I could walk every nook and cranny of the school for 24 hours (day, night, midnight, dawn etc) without any fear whatsoever cool

Hmm July 10 1999.My own story goes thus. I was supposed to have a mgt info systems test on the sat morning and I read well into the night. However I couldnt sleep soundly because of the kegite gyration going on. At about 3 in the morning (not sure of the time again) there were sounds of gun shot and my reaction was "how dare these kegites dem no know where dem dey".Awo hall of all places.By the way I occupied a room in blk 7 first floor. The next I heard was go into the rooms, go into the rooms, gun them down. I got up from the bed by now everybody in the room was fully awake and panic set in. I got into my moccasin shoes ready to bolt when the need arose. We all shepherded ourselves to the balcony. When I noticed the bastards were on my block I had to act. I told my roomies we should jump down but they refused. They tried to hold me back but I pulled away and jumped landing awkwardly. I got up and after my first step I was pulled down by the clothing lines at the back of my block 7 I got and took flight again but was pulled down yet again by the clothing lines in front of block 6 I summoned courage and ran further to the fence at the back of block 6.By this time I was fagged out and after a third attempt to jump the fence, someone thankfully ran into me and pushed me over the fence. At the other side we were about 5 in number .I was so breathless that the sound of my breath could wake up a drunk. After 20 or 30 mins in the bush we came out to behold an atmosphere of grief, fear and sadness. Meanwhile after the attack my friends had gonee to my room to look for me and were told my whereabout was unknown.I met them crying like babies. The immediate aftermath of the attack was not very pleasant as we lived in perpetual fear of further reprisals. The Lanre legacy led SUG really tried in apprehending Efosa and Co. But OAU wahala too much heard they are on strike again. Sighs heavily.

I was born in Ife. I grew up very close to OAU. I was there when it all happened. George Iwilade was actually a throrn in the flesh of cultists and he was very popular on campus. The aftermath of his assasination reduced cult activities considerably. His death pains me till today but he left a good legacy. #AfrikaLivesOn
The article is based on too many third parties. Iwilade George was not only a thorn in the flesh of cultists but also on the management. His cause was just but it was a thorn to the two aforementioned. The then Omole is not clean, even till date. As a matter of fact, some of the cultists 'disappeared' without a trace, even after being sentenced. I used to have the video of the apprehended cultists, their 'tools' and how they mentioned and implicated Omole. Afrika is the reason cultism died in OAU. RIP to his soul and that of other comrades who fell in the struggle.

My account of events before and after the sad day is on many threads.

To sum it up in the shortest summary possible, July 10, 1999 was about 'Freedom'. The people that invaded Ife and their cohorts wanted their own warped idea of 'Freedom'.

Although they won the battle (because they silenced the voice of Afrika), they however lost the war.

From that day on, Ife became totally Free from all semblances of cultism. The invaders and their allies underestimated the collective will of Great Ife students.

Let it be told, every time, that IFE remains the only Tertiary University in Nigeris where students collectively conquered cultism.

Unfortunately, it's not the same again, even if I'm not in the system anymore. Shortly before I left, there were several reports of rape cases, particularly around Ajose and that bush path leading to maintenance, that is, the one at the left hand side just after road one. It was so bad that they had to close the road back then. Don't know about now. This was years back.

That day was the dat i saw hell on earth. We were supposed to have chm 101 test in the morning of that incident. I was in 100 level at that time, I lived in angola hall while in awo hall there was kegite in incitation going on of which AFRIKA was to be initiated . Guys did u know that the cultist that was put to handle angola guys was a lady? Omo see guys running into the bush without looking back. The medical student that was Hit by a stray bullet was painful because he bleeded to death when no one could save him. His blood changed the colour of the fruit Tree in the medical building from green to red. I beg as i am writing its like yesterday and tears flowing from my eyes, my kids and wife here with me consolling me. Our falling heros rest well!!! OF THE GREATEST IFEEEEEE!!!!!!! ALUTA CONTINUA...

Thank God you survived it!
