....... Having studied the pros and cons of NL for sometime, i am of the opinnion that no one was actually born dumb. But the manner and delivery with which messages are being passed accrosed makes one wonders if my opinnion was anything but the truth..Sniperx , your observations were candid and obviously pertinent. For a second, i was beginning to trust its credibilty safe for your crude and hate-laddened emotional tone.

Maybe you were right about dygeasy's poor choices, but you only ended up showing how worst off you'd have fared if you were in his shoes.

Lesson: Next time, air your opinnion as objective and sensible as you can, except you wana tell me this post was your peak.

Ok, the height of emotional leakages is attempting to score a student in an exam he hasn't written.

And the height of illusionary calculation is to be floating in a sea of self-righteousness, never getting to anchor or to berth.
Next time: deliver your judgement without having the need to tilt towards indecisive verdict for fear of sentimental affiliation wink

In my candid opinion. The Mr and Miss Nairaland contest is a tacit waste of time. Imagine most of the contestants are actually student, but, yes but, you never see them partake in contest like The Nairaland Inter-School Debate or The Nairaland Poetry Club Competition.

They always flock around this Mr and Miss Nairaland contest, why, its obvious, because you don't need any ounce of intelligence to win, just get people to campaign for you, and let people vote based on who is popular, then voila!. You're home free!.

....... Quite true, but not in its entirety.

Those contests you mentioned are very educative and informative no doubt, but the human nature is diverse, same as our disposition and preferences.

We all cant win microsoft imagine cup or represent Nigeria in the Google climate event in texas. Some people gotta be Miss Tourism while some are born to bring home gold medals for our dear country. So you see, its not about lack of intelligence, i prefer to see it as a preference. Perhaps a less brain tasking preference if thatz gonna make you sleep better.

Alot of neutral voters and observers voted based on the interview and questionnaires.

Even the voice interview was downloaded. I still have them in my phone.

Yes. In terms of preference, you're right. But you forgot a very lucid fact I mentioned. The partakers of this Mr and Miss Nairaland contest are mostly student, now the question is, what is a student doing contesting for Mr and Miss Nairaland, when he or she knows very well that if he or she tell his or her H.O.D that they won an online debate or poetry competition, the H.O.D might give them a pat on the back, but, if they tell that same H.O.D that the won an online pageant contest, the H.O.D will tell them "they're not serious".

Brother, preference shouldn't be mistaken for relevance and necessity. While its good to catch fun, its also good to catch fun and learn a thing or two, that can shape ones life, for life.

Take me for instance, I par took in this same competition in 2014, campaigned here and there, and yes I learned something. I got my poetry skill back in line, you can check my first poem in Nairaland, it was written for this contest, and since then, its been pen on paper, and I tell you you wouldn't believe the amount of Nairalanders I've helped with this.

Now ask any of the contestants and campaigners what they've learned here so far, and they'll tell you the usual bullsh1t. Then again, everybody can't be Joe, right.

The bitter truth! If only the criterion for qualification involves having participated in a Nairaland Inter-School Debate, we would be having fewer turn-ins, and merited candidates as well.

Then again, ask yourself another question, how come most if not all the winners of Mr and Miss Nairaland contest always go on ghost mode, after they win. I believe the quest for cheap popularity is the craving they so desire.

....... Obviously you are right. "even in nonsense, there is still sense"... It all boils down to our various senses of perception, observation, notation and learning. You will be surprised how much you can pick even from the dumbest of NL threads. Maybe unrefined, but certainly we live to learn everday, every situation.

As for the age and status grade of participants, i think that shouldnt be an issue. Married and older folks got lots of real life situations to worry about. And perhaps if the HOD wont dash out his "pat on the back" quite deservingly, am sure a life coach wont toe that line because they know how much a 1minute incident/scenario can reshapen a life back on track with a strong purpose.

Kudos bro on your poet stride. Glory awaits you at the very top.

You blame them? I'd rather blame the 'groups' who nominate and back them. With the seemingly god complex they possess, I fear they can nominate a baboon someday and also hand it the crown.
