Hi there everybody, great job with the loads of information you are dishing out all time...I would like some opinions about university of Ottawa, I was in the process of compiling my documents to apply for masters degree when I was informed by a travel agent I'm friends with that uniottawa and most schools in Canada do not accept any cgpa that's below 3.5(2:1 Nigerian grading standard)...here is a little info about me, I graduated with a cgpa of 3.27, studied agricultural economics, I was intending to major in economics full time for my masters program...so I would like to know from experienced minds on this thread if i have been misinformed about uniottawa and about Canadian universities in general, I'd also appreciate some suggestions of schools that wouldn't turn down my application based on my cgpa...ps-recently took ielts and had an average score of 7.5...your candid opinions are being anticipated.

hi guys, what a 1daful thread this is.
pls I need your urgent response on this question.
am a graduate with a CGPA of 4.36 and I will love to know if there is any available scholarships or maybe graduate assistantship jobs for my course of study which is materials science and engineering, for peeps like us that don't have any means to find the tuition fees. if there is, how do I go about it?
pls I need your urgent reply, you maybe saving a life.
many thanks

With your high CGPA you should be able to get at least an admission scholarship in schools in the major universities in Canada. In addition, you should contact prospective supervisors in your school of choice. Those of them that have research funding will be very happy to offer you paid Research or Gradute Assistantship position.

Good morning"Masters", I hv started sourcing for info concerning availability of funding in form of scholarship and/or assistanceship frm uni of Manitoba. For the program of study I'm interested in, the Graduate Study Advisor happens to hv a Nigerian name (frm my ethnic grp). My question is dis: I knw my inquiry frm him should b formal but I'm tempted into asking him more about himself, introducing myself as his ethnic brother, and questions like his personal experiences. HW reasonable will dat b? Or shd I go straight to d point and give him my qualifications n experiences n ask abt my chances of landing funding.

Pls no yab me. I need advice as money no dey but brain to read dey. Thx for your assistances so far, masters. *Desperately*
Don't play the 'ethnic card'. Be very formal. He should know that you're a Nigerian. When you have established a level of familiarity then you can tactfully bring that up.

@yemdogg and @pen.. i am just learning and chipping in my little input as i can. this canadian study visa process is just like reading past questions to prepare for the forthcoming exams which will opportune and expose you to know the tactically areas of concerns though individual cases differ in these VOs torchlight eyes grin i am still a TRV fall hopeful.the necessary things that cause minor refusal i have done if any negative thing happens at the end, with the help of GCMS note i would be guaranteed of a successfully reapplication by GOD'S GRACE.
since yesterday i have received calls from my friends in canada, even my canada whitey babe grin about the success of my application.i told them that nothing yet oo after their mail of ''my account has been updated'' since last month and very soon my app will clock 2months.To me CIC ACCRA,GHANA doesn't follow the process of ''first come first serve'' though many are called but few are chosen. I have witnessed disarray from update of those being responded to so far. could it also mean they have voluminous app this period? those guys must be f**kin' lipsrsealed busy this period.

I think CIC caused all this delays for us and themselves. Why can't they process applications from Nigeria in Nigeria.. Must they take it to ghana? Do they even have enough staffs in their ghana office to process applications from Nigeria, ghana and other West African countries(benin etc). .. Why delay no go dey..

If he's interested in familiarity, he would indicate that in his response to you.

You can't blame them...maybe we Nigerians have highest number of applications, highest number fake documents, highest number of desperate applicants, etc, ghana processing time is 8weeks, Niger 5weeks, Republic of benin 8weeks....also you can't blame us Nigerians we want better standard of Living conditions for ourselves and children which our corrupt government/leader can't provide for us......we should all hope for the best and God's plan.

Hello great pple in the house,

Permit me to use this space to thank you all for the great work you all are doing in here. I've been an ardent follower of this thread even before registering on nairaland, and I must confess that I've gain so much from the forum.

I've got a whole lot of knotty issues I'd like you guys to help with.

Background: I'm seeking a PhD (Electrical & Computer Engineering) admission into a Canadian university (preferably Alberta or Manitoba). I have the following grades in my previous studies - B.Eng CGPA - 4.09/5.0 and M.Eng GPA - 3.9/5.0 (57.3% average). I also have nine (9) years working experience in the telecommunication industry.

1. Would I be eligible for a PhD admission (with/without funding) with the above credentials?

2. If not (considering my unimpressive M.Eng grades), and I choose to apply for MSc (thesis based), would it be an added advantage applying with my M.Eng, or I should just apply with the B.Eng?

3. Wouldn't applying with a M.Eng (for another master program) place on me, a burden to convince the VO (when applying for study permit) on the need for an additional masters degree?

All contributions are welcome! Especially for my experienced bosses in the house (wouldn't want to mention names b'cos you guys are all great!)

Thanks.

you stand a good chance with UofM ... i will urge you go

Look at other countries you mentioned all having 5-8 weeks for processing. The question is why is it that when it comes to Nigeria question mark or K-leg must dey.

Hello fellow friends on the thread, I need your advice urgently as I am about applying for my student permit. I was offered admission by MUN, MA in Linguistics with funding. My first question is how good am I with my uncle with same saw name choosing to be my sponsor? Equally I am a Fulbright scholar, taught at a university in US. How bright is my chance of securing the permit with all these. Also, I am working at a newspaper company as a Chief Correspondent, read English in Undergraduate. Your answer please.
Re: Travelling To Canada Part 10 by Ymc007(f): 6:36pm On Jul 12, 2016
So while my application clocks 4weeks today, no email or text from vfs or CIC that they have even received my application. I tried linking my application online, it says "application not found", vfs tracking site says "my processed application has been sent to Accra. I ain't worried because I just know that God is in control smiley. Keeping myself busy with other things although I still check my mail every now and then cause it's not on auto sync.
Guys, I know it's not easy but once a while try to take your minds off this thing and each time you remember it, just stay positive. Being worried will not hasten it, it will only steal your joy and make u nervous for no reason at all.
Thanks to Yemdogg and MicV who have been cracking me up here grin.
God bless us all, we shall all rejoice definitely no matter what.

you have a good profile as you'v stated.i see consistency too.Let your SOP emphasize on what MA in linguistic would add to your profile as a chief correspondent and also why at this point in your career you have chosen canada as your study destination for your intended program and not your native country,Nigeria. my little input! thank you.

Uniottawa takes 2.2 in some cases especially if you have years of experience. The best way to be sure is by sending mail to graduate studies or course advisor for direct and correct information. All the best.

Pls house, i need an urgent help from professionals. I already have admission for pHD in mcgill but awaiting funding from my sponsor but he could not complete the full funding to the tune of 15m. I now requested that he shd divide it into 3 tranches such that 5m for each year until 3 years which equal 15m as required for the program. He intend to issue me the 5m as scholarship with bank draft and deposited into my account. Can i use the scholarship letter and bank draft including my Statement of account with the 5m to apply for visa? Pls i need ur professional[b] help.

@Ymc007(f) thanks for the compliment. your experience of difficulty linking your application to an online account happened also to me.there are some details you ain't entering well. carefully fill those specified information as it appeared on ur permit form. pay attention to ur DLI,passport no,passport entry/expiry date, school resumption and end date, category-tempoary resident, sub category-study permit and study permit extention,et al..just carefully pay attention to details,i think it would be solved
