Why is this now news? Yorubas have been doing this since time immemorial. Nobody saw it as greed or love for money.
Try getting a land in Lagos or anywhere in yoruba land and the traditional ruler will send omoniles to demand for omonile fees from you. Its immaterial what you paid to acquire it. You will also pay for foundation, decking, roofing etc.
Yoruba elders will deploy touts who will stand at each bus stop to collect money they didn't work for from drivers. If that is not greed and the laziest love for money,I don't know what is.
There are also illegal ground fee, parking fees and so on.
But nobody has attacked them for it. You here a case in the east and you all jump up to shout 'greed'.
Isn't that hypocrisy?

. . . and sanitation fees. Don't forget that grin grin

What's wrong if the herdsmen are made to pay for grazing in an area? After all they sell the cows and make money. You can't come to my land and graze for free and then sell the same cows to me for a prize.
My only problem is that personal farms should be avoided, Bush full everywhere.
And nobody has the right to start killing people, whether
Money or no money is given.

Investigation into this matter should be wholesome, anyone who collected money from the Fulanis under false pretenses should be charged & convicted for fraud, anyone who's guilty of murdering anyone from either side should equally be charged & sentenced for the crime. There's no need to turn the thread to some ethnic mudslinging arena.

Let them keep the hate coming. Shey Joe Igbokwe has told them to their faces their misplaced hate won't take them anywhere, hating on everyone and everything not on the same page with them, including their blood brothers.

I wonder what an autocratic system totally apathetic to dissension they plan to run in that imaginary country of theirs- because one is as good as dead if they dare to hold a contrary opinion to dilector's.

The other day, one deviated completely off the topic under consideration and simply wrote "Aisha Buhari is a prostittute", and then wrote "cc Omenka", thinking that "hurts me". Today, there's a thread showing food items donated by the same Aisha being distributed to Abians! The "prostitute" was sharing the spoils of her "prostitution" to their mothers and fathers!

If this behaviour of theirs isn't MADNESS, then I don't know what is.

The highest greed in the nation is when touts stand at every bus stop to collect oouda from working transporters,a money they didn't work for.
When yorubas will ask for 'ground fee' for dropping your goods on the ground.

Igbo leaders are greedy, selfish – Etcetera

I was told that every Igboman who heard Ojukwu’s speech after the Biafran war was filled with a renewed sense of pride and hope. A hope that one day, the Igbo nation will rise and become a force of reckoning with, not just in Nigeria but in the entire black world. I have read that speech over and over, and each time I read through, I am filled with pride and imagination of how those, who heard the words pouring out of the mouth of the warlord himself must have felt. Before going any further, let me recount a little part of what the late sage said, while addressing the press:

‘In the three years of the war, necessity gave birth to invention. During those three years of heroic bound, we leapt across the great chasm that separates knowledge from know-how. We built rockets, and we designed and built our own delivery systems. We guided our rockets. We guided them far, we guided them accurately. For three years, blockaded without hope of import, we maintained all our vehicles. The state extracted and refined petrol, individuals refined petrol in their back gardens. We built and maintained our airports, maintained them under heavy bombardment. Despite the heavy bombardment, we recovered so quickly after each raid that we were able to maintain the record for the busiest airport in the continent of Africa. We spoke to the world through telecommunication system, engineered by local ingenuity; the world heard us and spoke back to us! We built armoured car tanks. We modified aircraft from trainer to fighters, from passenger aircraft to bombers. In the three years of freedom we had broken the technological barrier. In three years, we became the most civilised, the most technologically advanced black people on earth.’

Ojukwu, with those few lines, defined the ingenuity and never-say-die spirit God has embedded in the marrows of the Igboman. But my question for Ndigbo is, where has this ingenuity, for which the entire world has given them a standing ovation, gone? Why can’t it be used today to enhance the cause of Ndigbo? Can’t we re-enact the same war time feat to launch ourselves back to reckoning again in Nigeria and in the entire black world?

Since Ojukwu died, Ndigbo have been like sheep without a shepherd. Those who we thought could take up the mantle of leadership are nothing but selfish entities, who care for nothing but their personal interest. As I am writing this article, I just got words that a senator in Imo State has been discovered as a saboteur, working against the interest of his people because he has been promised to be made Senate president in the new political dispensation which begins on May 29. What is it with Ndigbo and greed? How long are we going to kill ourselves? Isn’t it a gargantuan shame that a tribe as populous as Ndigbo can’t provide a single individual that is seen to be credible enough to be elected president of Nigeria? A casual observation of the performances of the governors of the south eastern states will reveal their level of under-performance since 1999.

Case point, take Aba which has failed to enjoy any meaningful development since the 1929 Aba women riot. The place is a total mess. What have the governors done with what has been accruing to the state in the last 16 years of democratic rule? The fact that these individuals, who have mismanaged fortunes of the state consider themselves fit to even contest election is a slap on the faces of Ndigbo. Ndigbo, are we cursed? The red-cap goons known as Ohaneze do nothing but crawl from one place to another, offering themselves for sale and for use. This has been their money-making scheme for too long and it can no longer hold water. Can’t we take a cue from the style Dangote adopted and made a kill? The Yoruba have already adopted it and it is working. We have to restrategise to become that economic power house we crave. The idea that every Igboman who makes money, whether through his ingenuity or by accident, becomes misguided and begins to push for political office even though they are clearly not professional politicians should be discarded.

We hear of Dangote, the Dantatas, Otedola, Mike Adenuga, the Okoyas, where are the Igbo equivalent in terms of their organisational set-up? Most of our businesses are largely one-man businesses and whenever the founder dies, the whole thing dies. Ndigbo must do away with their selfishness and personal greed, otherwise we will continue to languish as a people. We must redirect our thoughts away from the deeply engrossed notion of “to make it in life,” “we must make money at all cost.” What Ndigbo should learn from the just concluded elections is that without a harmony of opinion, all our efforts will yield nothing. Igbo kwezuenu.

Opinion: Igbo leaders are responsible for the ill-treatment of the Igbos

The fact is a scrum of Igbo penny leaders feed fat on the emaciated condition of the Igbo in Nigeria. They claim to represent the Igbo, but what they do is to gulp down mouth watering sums of valuable paper in exchange for Igbo’s rights farting stained coins of greed.

The Igbo today are groping in a labyrinth of confusion; a labyrinth that they have knitted together out of humongous morsels of selfishness, avarice and ignorance. And as they waltz in the ball of anodyne confusion their status or place in the Nigerian entity magnanimously tapers off.

Having said that, it is indubitable to aver that the place of the Igbo in Nigeria as the present gut-shrivelling political picture shows, is the abominable and thrashed quarters of irrelevance. In line with that, in political stratification, the Igbo take the wizened, bottom space after the Hausa, Yoruba and Ijaw. In fact, other peoples that are considered ethnic minorities in Nigeria may go up the political ladder before the Igbo as it is today.

In addition, the Igbo are highly unappreciated in the political mix, and that also means they are tinged by the stain of “last-best”. Consequently, anything, “Igbo-rated” is consigned to the trashcan of “fourth-fiddle”, irrelevance, and not-good-enough-for-power. To say the least, the Igbo have become side-kicks to dominant Hausa-Yoruba-Ijaw power heroes in the Marvel comic of Nigeria.

As always, the unthinking Igbo horde will allude the present condition of the Igbo to the “blessed” Biafra-Nigeria civil war. And for this horde there is no way out of the asphyxiating cul-de-sac because the war has already done some irredeemable damage. Playing the victim has become the lazy default configuration of some Igbo.

So, for the unthinking Igbo, here are some posers. Is the war the reason greedy Igbo leaders in a perfidious clique known as Ohanaeze barter the political future of the Igbo for billions of naira which they swallow, and defecate pennies for their coterie of unthinking followers? Is the war the reason states in the South East are sprawling igloos in spite of all the huge monetary allocations to the various South East governments? Is the war the reason the Igbo lack direction, and orphaned of an agenda?

Is war the cause of the gully erosion gormandizing parts of Anambra State with belligerence? Is the war the reason the Igbo are ball boys at the Maracana of Nigerian politics? Is the war the reason for the ossified, steal-abroad-and-take-chieftaincy-title -at-home culture in Igboland? Is the war the reason for the baby factories mushrooming in Igboland? Is the war the reason for preponderance of Igbo criminal regiments at home and abroad? There are many more imposing posers, but these are for cerebral crunching.

Perhaps, the war is the reason why “Kpomo” is more expensive in Anambra than in Kano.

For the thinking Igbo, it is wholesomely clear that the trash position of the Igbo in Nigeria today is as a result of a concatenation of ill-forces mustered by the Igbo themselves. The vilest ill force militating against Igbo ascendancy to the stratum of affluence, influence and power is Igbo penny leaders.

The alleged handout of 1.2 billion given to Ohanaeze by President Goodluck Jonathan is a knocking affirmation of this point. Even if Ohanaeze disputes the allegation, the truth remains it cannot be tooting Jonathan’s horns and running his errands for free. Ohanaeze, we all know is not for charity. So it must have been duly raking in “solid quid” into its bloating coffers from its consort with the President.

In conclusion, the vacuity of Igbo leadership heralds itself as the national conference dawns. The Igbo seem to be the obfuscated people without an agenda. The Yoruba agenda is regional autonomy. The Hausa-Fulani agenda according to Arewa Consultative Forum is unitary Nigeria (even though they are euphemistic about it), but the Igbo sadly, tout conflicting ideological noises as agenda. At best, what the Igbo do is to sandwich themselves between Ijaw agenda of resource control and self-determination. One Igbo leader from the North Pole cries, “self-determination” another one from the South Pole screams “con-federalism”. Disjointed schema! Playing the “fourth fiddle” has become the genius of the Igbo.

And as the Igbo become a minority in Nigeria owing to its quisling leaders, it will be easier for Boko Haram boys to get surplus tasty virgins in heaven than for an Igbo person to become president.

What's going on here..... why re you guys calling igbos greedy? Because they collected money from herds men and issued them grazing permit? What's wrong with that? It's business but that some people turned it into a permit to destroy people's farmlands is not part of the deal. That they came and attacked a whole village killed and destroyed properties worth millions is a crime that must be condemned..... And all we care about is to look for a soft spot to attack another tribe

MeAboki:

We are at least now finally getting some insight into the other side of the story; much as the Fulani have been maligned as wanton killers, it should be equally obvious that they wouldn't just wake and start killing ppl without a reason; part of that reason as we can see is that the Igbos have been scamming them, collecting money for grazing or selling them land and later renegading or collecting same under false pretext.

There was even a thread about similar happening where some youths in Amalla LG, Enugu allegedly sold land to the Fulani for as much as 4 million Naira, causing some members of the community to disagree and attempting to chase them away but only for the Fulani to refuse to budge until being refunded their money with interest.
https://www.nairaland.com/3079874/enugu-amalla-people-sold-land

We also have heard elsewhere that part of the reason for the Enugu attack was that the Igbos were killing and burying them secretly, which came to light after the Fulani discovered bodies of their ppl buried upside down and disembowelled in shallow graves - as culturally vengeful ppl, the Fulani therefore felt obliged to retaliate and the rest is now history.

It is a pity that we have poor and often biased journalism were the public are misinformed through lopsided media reporting.
We can see how some members of the Igbo host communities were taking advantage of the herdsmen, who in turn after being scammed feel sufficiently provoked to take retaliatory action - and we all know how the Igbos are experts at playing the victims card.

Stories to these clashes are often not one sided, there is always the other side, and if examined carefully sometimes you may even find the herdsmen are the actual victims.

Exactly.

I'm no fan of these people, but the truth is that only one side of the story always makes it to the press- why I did this piece which I believe you missed: www.nairaland.com/3081856/nation-people-herdsmen-press

Igbos Are A Shameless Ethnic Group With “Greed, Selfishness – Junaid Muhammed

The Convener of the Coalition of Northern Politicians, Academics, Professionals and Businessmen, and delegate representing Kano state at the just concluded National Conference, Dr. Junaid Mohammed, has spoken out about his hatred for people from Nigeria’s South East, a region populated by Igbos.

Dr Mohammed who was speaking recently with newsmen about issues in the country could not help but make it clear that he believes the Igbos constitute a problem in the country and he challenged anyone who disagrees with him to “go to hell”

Answering questions on his recent arrest by the Department of State Security after some allegedly inciting comments from him, Mohammed saidsaid he was arrested because the Director of Operations of the DSS was an Igbo man.

“The order for my arrest came directly from the Director of Operations, an Igbo man. Apparently, he does not like anyone who says anything uncomplimentary about Igbo people and their greed. I think he was particularly very unhappy because I said Igbo have taken charge of the economy and that they have also grabbed most of the land especially for estates in Abuja where they don’t have any historical claims or any other logical claim to even one square foot of land,” he said.

Speaking further, Junaid Mohammed described the Igbos as a shameless ethnic group with “greed, selfishness and contempt for other ethnic groups”

“If saying about 42 per cent of the key positions in the economic sector of Nigeria is dominated by Igbo, if that is what they call tribalism, then I stand by that tribalistic statement because these are verifiable facts and whenever I made that statement, I mentioned names and positions and institutions.

“For example, I said the most powerful person in this country is the Minister of Finance who is in fact, the de facto Prime Minister. What it means is that she is the de facto head of government. For a person who was not elected and the legitimacy of the government that appointed her still in doubt, anybody who thinks saying this is being tribalistic, so be it. They can burn to ashes and go to hell.

“Two, I said the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria is also an Igbo person, next I said the DG, Nigerian Economic Summit Group is an Igbo man, the DG, Sovereign Wealth Fund, is also an Igbo person, the DG, Securities and Exchange Commission is also an Igbo person, the DG, Manufacturers Association of Nigeria is also an Igbo person, other ministries which are very critical to the running of the economy like aviation, are also in the hands of Igbo people. So, what are we talking about?

“Igbo remains one ethnic group in Nigeria that is so devoid of any shame to show their greed, selfishness and contempt for other ethnic groups. I said and I will still say that the first time Igbo officers staged a coup and assassinated wholesale the political leaders of most other ethnic groups was when we had General Aguiyi Ironsi as the Supreme Commander of the Nigerian Armed Forces. He was involved in the coup where the entire political leadership, the military and economic leadership of other regions especially the North was decapitated under him and he was from Umuahia.

“The next time we had another Igbo man as Chief of Army Staff was at the height of the Boko Haram insurgency and that man was (Azubuike) Ihejirika, who also comes from the same Abia State, from the same Umuahia. So, if this is what they use to call me a tribalist, then they can go to hell,” Mohammed said.
