TV01:I am passionate about Europe but I am not hurting. It's just that unqualified statements are irritating and you have just exposed your utter ignorance and since the British were obstructinist to reforms within the EU, life will be easier without them. And any country that is not a team player can leave too. I am all for a smaller Europe with countries that truly want to work on this project and shape Europe passionately instead of countries that act like the EU is an enemy and who ride on people ignorance that EU officials are not democratically elected. ![]() Hivemind - so refugee status is indeterminate?Nonsense. You claimed that refugees = people with refugee status can cross borders and it was utter ignorance. Now you are swimming in your sea of ignorance referring to those who will be granted full citizenship even though most of them won't because refugees are suppossed to leave the country as soon as the war is over. You don't even know the difference between migrants and refugees. PULEASE! Come is this your ideology genetically embedded, or is it administered via daily injections/intravenous dripOnly ignorant people will feel that a million Poles since 2004 are a threat to social services when in fact unregulated financial markets, which the British government was in favour of, are responsible for the crisis that hit Europe. Please, stop exposing yourself more. Have you explained why the union is undemocratic yet? ![]() Ten Foreigners coming to the UK, even earning £100K and paying higher rate tax of 40%, have not invested long term in building and maintaining infrastructure. Their immediate contributions will not fund school places for their children, or hospital places for their sick relatives. Not to mention the real sacrifices of blood, sweat and tears it takes to build a nation through time and history. They pay taxes but they do not invest in social services? ![]() And, I don't concede the point about them contributing more. There are simply too many factors and assumptions - most are not highly skilled and high earning. Age, length of stay, skill profile, fertility, entitlement to welfare, infrastructure use etc., are all considerations.Who said they contribute more? ![]() Most models are extremely simplified, none look at things historically, and the net difference, even for favourably biased reports, is always a few % points. So its, not a lie, let alone the biggest one ever, quit the histrionics, And quit the expectation of my comforting you in your ideological fogShow us your most models. And why is it entirely about immigration now? Have you not the most welcoming culture as you claimed? ![]() I actually agree here. Mass or unchecked immigration, although presenting problems of it's own, is more a symptom of deeper underlying issues. The lack of infrastructural and educational investment is a huge failure, however, Europe' big blunder is it's falling fertility. Hence the need for immigrants. I laughed my self silly over the 7 odd players of African descent in the French teamYou are contradicting yourself. I'd wager that 95% of people in healthy, well-ordered EU countries have no desire to roam. Visit, maybe, roam, nah! Turkey is somewhere I visit. I'm not moving there. Lot's of French nationals rock up to the UK due to the accommodating environment for business and talent. The UK will not lose more than it gains by leaving. We will see. ![]() Nationalism/tribalism has it's place, strong nations can engage, share, co-operate and trade - as they have always done. Unevenly yoking nations together does not mean progress, it means problems. Nations and peoples without their right to sovereignty and self-determination always experience unrest. The UK exit regardless, the EU project is a failure, and only being held together by increasingly dictatorial policy.Nationalism and tribalism has led to bloody wars but I don't expect someone like you to have a broader horizon. Explain to us how laws are made in the EU before you use words like dictatorial. Have you not googled it yet? And tell us when last you voted for the European parliament. If the UK is superceded naturally so be it. Nations strive and compete just like individuals. It's up to them to compete effectively.Nations can also cooperate just like individuals. |

BloodyCrook:The moment you start, is the moment you will be mercilessly ignored. ![]() Girl, you're truly ignorant, little wonder you love using that word. Germany has one of the largest dependency ratio in Europe with massive population decline owing to low birthrate. She needs able-bodied influx of people to beef up the work rate and productivity of the economy. The Syrian crisis was an opportunity in a rare moment in time.Germany did what European countries are obliged to do. There is something called Geneva Convention which clearly states that HUMANS are to be granted asylum under certain circumstances but since people ignorantly believe that immigrants are taking their jobs, they voted for Brexit. Now Germany can relax agian. Britain is an agining society with low birth rates as well. Let us watch the decline now. And let us watch how Frankfurt will flourish as Europe's new finacial centre. http://www.bbc.com/news/business-34172729The suicide bombers from France: Fabien Clain - of French nationality Abdelhamid Abaaoud - Belgian-Moroccan born in Belgium Salah Abdeslam - Belgian-born French national of Moroccan descent All of the known perpetrators were EU citizens and not refugees but even if they were, you simply don't condemn a whole nation for what a few did. Who was calling me ignoramus again? ![]() London attacks: Mohammad Sidique Khan - born in England Shehzad Tanweer born in England Germaine Maurice Lindsay - born in Jamaica Hasib Mir Hussain - born in England Next time you make an assertion, prove it. I think the conclusion of the whole matter is that people should learn to define their own standards; what they know as right and wrong should stand, without following a vague or real trend of an exposed icon. Hyphenated names may be trending in the USA and Nigeria, but remember that Obama and Buhari's wives have not changed their names. Indecency or nudity may be trending in the UK, but we have never seen the Queen on bra & net. Even Obama who has supposedly legalized ga.y marriage has not offered his butt for ga.y sex. All he has done is to give everyone the right to define their rights and wrongs, as long as it hurts no one in the process. So, wives should learn to consult their husbands ONLY, on critical issues learned from vague outsiders. Let each and every family define their own standards. I'm sorry for any generalization I must have made on the thread. However, my standard is against any attached name without a well-defined purpose. |

Mindfulness:People really should be tested. It wasn't so long ago that there were stiff, sensible requirements before anyone would have the privilege of voting. Asylum seekers voting is grave injustice. |
| Re: Why Do Married Women Have To Be Addressed As Mrs? by Nobody: 10:14am On Jul 13, 2016 |
Timbuktou:Asylum seekers are not voting. Even EU citizens can only vote in the countries of which they have their passports. The problem is that people make migrants and refugees responsible for the problems their countires are facing even though these groups of people are not the ones that created them. People from lower social classes are pointing their fingers at other distinct groups from lower social classes instead of pointing their fingers at those up the social ladder who have had the power to create a financial crisis that hit the poorest the most. I have a vision of a world without borders where everyone can move freely. I hope I will come to see it before I die. One world, one human race! |

Mindfulness:I got that impression from your post. I wondered how possible that was. Anyway, thanks for the clarification. It's quite a complicated matter, really. The migrants aren't the problem, the government is. However, government doesn't seem to be able to manage the situation well, and if they can't manage it effectively the result is exactly what you see. People will naturally pander to what soothes their troubles. Lol. Stop smoking weed early in the morning. Tell that to the millions of raped German and Swedish women. |

Mindfulness:Mindfulness i had to jump in because i have quite a broad knowledge on refugees because i have a large extended family all over EU and some came as refugees and were able to settle with their families. Careful consideration must be given to revoking refugee status and removing or varying any associated leave where: • it is clear that someone no longer needs protection (cessation) • evidence emerges that status was obtained by misrepresentation (cancellation) • someone commits a serious crime or represents a threat to our national security such that they no longer deserve protection (revocation) Most of the time, when your refugee status expires-let's say you were given 5 years in the UK, you will apply for a leave to remain as a refugee. It depends on your circumstance, even if your country is no longer in war-you can be given an indefinite stay if you have a family(kids and spouse) and has never been in the bad side of the law and working. Now whenever you are given an indefinite leave to remain, you will wait for a year before asking for citizenship which in most cases is given. Citizenship by grant or naturalisation could be granted after five years of residence to foreign nationals including asylum seekers, refugees and Commonwealth citizens alike, subject to meeting various conditions which i stated earlier. A refugee as the same right as citizens of that country and get all the benefits. If a refugee intend to travel, he is given a Convention Travel Document, also known as ‘blue document’ to use as a valid travel document in place of passport to travel overseas. This document is valid for all countries except the one from which the person sought asylum. As everybody else, refugees can travel freely through the Schengen zone as tourists, but they cannot stay longer than 90 days nor can they work in other EU countries without residence and work permits. It's only asylum seekers whose status determination procedure is still ongoing, travelling is more problematic. EU legislation determines strictly that asylum seekers have to await a decision about their application in the country where they submitted it. They are usually not entitled to travel or work during the asylum procedure. You can read further about refugee status here:https://www.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/493918/revocation_of_refugee_status_v4_0_EXT.pdf |

Timbuktou:But it won't soothe their troubles. It will create more problems in the long run. Britain is the country that was opposing stricter regulations of the financial markets because London is the second biggest financial centre in the world but people didn't mention it when they were discussing Britain's situation and instead blamed innocent ones. What they also neglected is that the previous and current government neglected the industrial sector and thus destroyed thousands of jobs. And interestingly and unfortunately almost nobody (except of Cameron) mentioned that Britain has the lowest unemployment rate in a long time - despite immigration and is one of the strongest economies - despite or shall I say also because of immigration? The leave campaign was based on lies and now they see the responsible people disappearing like thieves. They don't want to clean up the mess they created. My heart goes out to the young people who were born into the European Union and who feel European and who with a qualified majority voted to remain in the European Union. I heard a young British student talking of how he will no longer be allowed to be a lawyer elsewhere than Britain even though his choice of studies was based on the conviction that his degree will be internationally recognized and that after graduating he will go and live and work in France for some time. Lol. Stop smoking weed early in the morning. Tell that to the millions of raped German and Swedish women. ![]() I know it's only a vision for now but Europe has suffered two bloody World Wars and more smaller wars on its soil before it succeeded to unite. They have experienced 70 years of peace ever since. Where did you get your numbers from? Millions of German and Swedish women were raped? Besides, Germany and Sweden are much safer for women than Nigeria, so what's your point? Don't tell me you consider the whole Arab world a threat. Abeg! We need to start respecting them more else we will create more terrorism. |
| Re: Why Do Married Women Have To Be Addressed As Mrs? by Nobody: 11:18am On Jul 13, 2016 |
edwife:@red And that's a good thing considering the fact that European societies are aging. @bold The British opted out of the Schengen Agreement and thus have already been controlling their borders. A fact that was barely mentioned in the debate. It is disgraceful to leave the EU on grounds of a possible terrorist threat when many prospective and past suicide bombers are and were from former British colonies and raised on the British soil. |

Mindfulness:The British opted out but the decisions are not yet in place as people still going and out of EU. It was reported that it will take at least two years before such can take place. Well i am against leaving but what can i do? Of all the arguments made against the European Union, one of the most common is to criticise the provision of free movement rights for EU citizens and this is where i have a problem with. I have a large family and should i have a visa anytime i want to visit? no more weekends trips **sigh** And the point of free movement was also to promote trade within the European area, which of course expanded over the years. The idea was to establish a liberal market economy where people could trade with each other across borders and the free movement of labour is part of that. I have friends who work in France and Italy. ![]() |
