Will you and ur types for once appreciate something that's indigenously yours? undecided
How long shall we continue to look up to the west for everything, when shall we begin to solve our problems ourselves? Did Japan, China, Korea et al get to where they are in a day?
When you see people like this, encourage them... Don't say those discouraging words.. Get rid of the slavery mentality. Africa should brace up to become independent technologically

you remember when I told u were a bigot and an unrepentant tribalist in the religion section... this was what i was saying.

What has ipob people ever invented instead of cloning fake products and devising ingenious methods of exporting hard drugs worldwide.

What's its usefulness to Nigeria and Africa undecided
You cant even export this, cos counties will prefer to pratonise advanced states.

And how to brace up is to copy others?
What is the usefulness of this poo to Nigeria?
Is this a solution to something? Cos i am lost here *rolls eyes* sigh!

It depends on the vision the man has...is he doing it to be called a genius or does he intend to make something useful of it. Robots can be used in Naija just like any where else in the world. In military, combat, warfare, exploration, minning, defense, home automation, medicine, surveillance and many more....

That's the difference between a hobbyist and a "Tony Stark" kinda of person! wink

Quit displaying your ignorance. "This" isn't a solution to anything, but that's not the point. Solutions come from a mindset and certain skill sets, which are on display here.

I do wish however that you guys (not you specifically now) would not waste so much energy on undignified pissing contests. I find that it's those who have the least to offer that boast the loudest about the exploits of their kinsmen. I think we should conclude henceforth that anyone trying to beat the drums of tribalism on Nairaland is an empty barrel...

You begin every invention by producing locally first, create almost the same product and use local materials to make it cheaper, by that he creates cheaper alternatives that will do almost the same thing, when he get more successful then he can then begin to think of exporting. But he'll never get to that point if he doesn't start. LET'S ENCOURAGE OUR OWN!

That's exactly how to start, you copy, you don't need to reinvent the wheel. That's how Japan and China caught up with America, COPY and ENNOVATE to produce something new.

Original designs are not common anymore, they're most ly coping and ennovations, even if you want to make original inventions, you start from coping 1st to catch up faster.

They are copied "skill sets" He would have to wait to copy any solution that may come up from his masters.
Why always imitate others. They make cars, we must make too. They make phones, we must too. They create a system of govt working perfectly for them, we must copy too. Why. Why cant we think of something different, something new.
Ever wondered why we are always stucked in a spot? cos we dont create we only copy. Sigh

But we have not left the "COPY" stage. We just wait for others to think and create or recreate and gbam we use or copy.

The future is basically computers and robots. If you're not in the digital world and you can't make use of computerized machines in the next ten years, you'll more or less be an illetrate.

The fools are concerned about the past
The average man about the present
The wise/great man about the future
This is the guy for the future in Africa, and it's a great consolation because atleast with more ppl like him Nigeria/Africa will not be left behind.

I like that you didn't flare up when I used the word ignorance earlier. The above says volumes about what you do NOT know about this subject. I would respectfully suggest that you stop posting on this subject. If you wish to continue posting, at least brush up a bit.

Cheers.

Let him copy 1st, I've not seen robotic productions by any Nigerian, anyone that can copy let them copy, at least it'll reduce importation, then when they perfect their acts we can start talking about exportation and reduce drastically our over dependence on oil.

Don't be so negative, lady. I wanted to avoid going into long stories. It turns out that I knew a little about this young man's work while he was a student in OAU. The remote laboratories he developed might not have set the world on fire, but they were original. As in nothing-like-it-anywhere-in-the-world original. That was no copy-copy.

As to his robotics work: EVERYBODY everywhere in the world does some copy-copy, because that's largely what the scientific method is all about. Replicate previous results (or at least, get familiar with them), and extend. He "copied" only as much as the scientific method entails. What he did with the "copied" work was original. As in nothing-like-it-anywhere-in-the-world original.

To respond to your assertion: Nigerians are not just mere copycats; we are not useless to the world. We may not have enough enlightened folks to make a dent, but we do have them. Here's hoping their ranks swell enough to make a difference in the years ahead.

Before you go let me tell you what Nigerians are only good in

1 Speaking grammar
2 Copying others to impress
3 Consuming

The enlightened people you wrote about, fall under 1 and 2.

We lack smart people in this country.

What we need is "smartness"

We need people who study how their environment works before creating anything. We live in a real world not a make-believe one.

At this point, Africa needs smart brains to make things work here not "lets just copy first" people with no direction.

cheers
